1 And it came to pass that after I, the Lord God, had driven them out, that Adam began to till the earth, and to have dominion over all the beasts of the field, and to eat his bread by the sweat of his brow, as I the Lord had commanded him. And Eve, also, his wife, did labor with him.

1 Y sucedió que, después que yo, Dios el Señor, los hube expulsado, Adán empezó a cultivar la tierra, y a ejercer dominio sobre todas las bestias del campo, y a comer su pan con el sudor de su rostro, como yo, el Señor, le había mandado; y Eva, su esposa, también se afanaba con él.

2 And Adam knew his wife, and she bare unto him sons and daughters, and they began to multiply and to replenish the earth.

2 Y Adán conoció a su esposa, y de ella le nacieron hijos e hijas, y empezaron a multiplicarse y a henchir la tierra.

3 And from that time forth, the sons and daughters of Adam began to divide two and two in the land, and to till the land, and to tend flocks, and they also begat sons and daughters.

3 Y de allí en adelante los hijos e hijas de Adán empezaron a separarse de dos en dos en la tierra, y a cultivarla y a cuidar rebaños; y también ellos engendraron hijos e hijas.

4 And Adam and Eve, his wife, called upon the name of the Lord, and they heard the voice of the Lord from the way toward the Garden of Eden, speaking unto them, and they saw him not; for they were shut out from his presence.

4 Y Adán y Eva, su esposa, invocaron el nombre del Señor, y oyeron la voz del Señor que les hablaba en dirección del Jardín de Edén, y no lo vieron, porque se encontraban excluidos de su presencia.

5 And he gave unto them commandments, that they should worship the Lord their God, and should offer the firstlings of their flocks, for an offering unto the Lord. And Adam was obedient unto the commandments of the Lord.

5 Y les dio mandamientos de que adorasen al Señor su Dios y ofreciesen las primicias de sus rebaños como ofrenda al Señor. Y Adán fue obediente a los mandamientos del Señor.

6 And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me.

6 Y después de muchos días, un ángel del Señor se apareció a Adán y le dijo: ¿Por qué ofreces sacrificios al Señor? Y Adán le contestó: No sé, sino que el Señor me lo mandó.

7 And then the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth.

7 Entonces el ángel le habló, diciendo: Esto es una semejanza del sacrificio del Unigénito del Padre, el cual es lleno de gracia y de verdad.

8 Wherefore, thou shalt do all that thou doest in the name of the Son, and thou shalt repent and call upon God in the name of the Son forevermore.

8 Por consiguiente, harás todo cuanto hicieres en el nombre del Hijo, y te arrepentirás e invocarás a Dios en el nombre del Hijo para siempre jamás.

9 And in that day the Holy Ghost fell upon Adam, which beareth record of the Father and the Son, saying: I am the Only Begotten of the Father from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast fallen thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will.

9 Y en ese día descendió sobre Adán el Espíritu Santo, que da testimonio del Padre y del Hijo, diciendo: Soy el Unigénito del Padre desde el principio, desde ahora y para siempre, para que así como has caído puedas ser redimido; y también todo el género humano, sí, cuantos quieran.

10 And in that day Adam blessed God and was filled, and began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth, saying: Blessed be the name of God, for because of my transgression my eyes are opened, and in this life I shall have joy, and again in the flesh I shall see God.

10 Y Adán bendijo a Dios en ese día y fue lleno, y empezó a profetizar concerniente a todas las familias de la tierra, diciendo: Bendito sea el nombre de Dios, pues a causa de mi transgresión se han abierto mis ojos, y tendré gozo en esta vida, y en la carne de nuevo veré a Dios.

11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.

11 Y Eva, su esposa, oyó todas estas cosas y se regocijó, diciendo: De no haber sido por nuestra transgresión, nunca habríamos tenido posteridad, ni hubiéramos conocido jamás el bien y el mal, ni el gozo de nuestra redención, ni la vida eterna que Dios concede a todos los que son obedientes.

12 And Adam and Eve blessed the name of God, and they made all things known unto their sons and their daughters.

12 Y Adán y Eva bendijeron el nombre de Dios, e hicieron saber todas las cosas a sus hijos e hijas.

13 And Satan came among them, saying: I am also a son of God; and he commanded them, saying: Believe it not; and they believed it not, and they loved Satan more than God. And men began from that time forth to be carnal, sensual, and devilish.

13 Y Satanás vino entre ellos, diciendo: Yo también soy un hijo de Dios; y les mandó, y dijo: No lo creáis; y no lo creyeron, y amaron a Satanás más que a Dios. Y desde ese tiempo los hombres empezaron a ser carnales, sensuales y diabólicos.

14 And the Lord God called upon men by the Holy Ghost everywhere and commanded them that they should repent;

14 Y Dios el Señor llamó a los hombres en todas partes, por el Espíritu Santo, y les mandó que se arrepintiesen;

15 And as many as believed in the Son, and repented of their sins, should be saved; and as many as believed not and repented not, should be damned; and the words went forth out of the mouth of God in a firm decree; wherefore they must be fulfilled.

15 y cuantos creyeran en el Hijo, y se arrepintieran de sus pecados, serían salvos; y cuantos no creyeran ni se arrepintieran, serían condenados; y las palabras salieron de la boca de Dios como firme decreto; por consiguiente, se cumplirán.

16 And Adam and Eve, his wife, ceased not to call upon God. And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare Cain, and said: I have gotten a man from the Lord; wherefore he may not reject his words. But behold, Cain hearkened not, saying: Who is the Lord that I should know him?

16 Y Adán y Eva, su esposa, no cesaron de invocar a Dios. Y Adán conoció a Eva, su esposa, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: He adquirido un varón del Señor; por tanto, tal vez este no rechace sus palabras. Mas he aquí, Caín no escuchó, y decía: ¿Quién es el Señor, para que tenga que conocerlo?

17 And she again conceived and bare his brother Abel. And Abel hearkened unto the voice of the Lord. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

17 Y concibió ella de nuevo y dio a luz a Abel, su hermano; y él escuchó la voz del Señor. Y Abel era pastor de ovejas, mas Caín labraba la tierra.

18 And Cain loved Satan more than God. And Satan commanded him, saying: Make an offering unto the Lord.

18 Y Caín amó a Satanás más que a Dios. Y Satanás le mandó, diciendo: Haz una ofrenda al Señor.

19 And in process of time it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.

19 Y con el transcurso del tiempo, sucedió que Caín trajo al Señor una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra.

20 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock, and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel, and to his offering;

20 Y Abel también trajo de las primicias de su rebaño, y de su grosura. Y el Señor miró con agrado a Abel y su ofrenda;

21 But unto Cain, and to his offering, he had not respect. Now Satan knew this, and it pleased him. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

21 mas no miró con agrado a Caín y su ofrenda. Ahora bien, Satanás sabía esto, y se alegró. Y Caín se ensañó en gran manera, y decayó su semblante.

22 And the Lord said unto Cain: Why art thou wroth? Why is thy countenance fallen?

22 Y el Señor le dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué te has ensañado? ¿Por qué ha decaído tu semblante?

23 If thou doest well, thou shalt be accepted. And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, and Satan desireth to have thee; and except thou shalt hearken unto my commandments, I will deliver thee up, and it shall be unto thee according to his desire. And thou shalt rule over him;

23 Si haces lo bueno, serás aceptado; y si no haces lo bueno, el pecado está a la puerta, y Satanás desea poseerte; y a menos que escuches mis mandamientos, te entregaré, y será hecho contigo según la voluntad de él. Y tú te enseñorearás de él,

24 For from this time forth thou shalt be the father of his lies; thou shalt be called Perdition; for thou wast also before the world.

24 porque desde ahora en adelante tú serás el padre de sus mentiras; serás llamado Perdición; porque también tú existías antes que el mundo.

25 And it shall be said in time to come—That these abominations were had from Cain; for he rejected the greater counsel which was had from God; and this is a cursing which I will put upon thee, except thou repent.

25 Y se dirá en tiempos venideros que estas abominaciones procedieron de Caín, porque rechazó el consejo mayor que venía de Dios; y esta es una maldición que pondré sobre ti, a menos que te arrepientas.

26 And Cain was wroth, and listened not any more to the voice of the Lord, neither to Abel, his brother, who walked in holiness before the Lord.

26 Y Caín se encolerizó, y no escuchó más la voz del Señor, ni a Abel, su hermano, el cual andaba en santidad delante del Señor.

27 And Adam and his wife mourned before the Lord, because of Cain and his brethren.

27 Y Adán y su esposa se lamentaban ante el Señor por causa de Caín y sus hermanos.

28 And it came to pass that Cain took one of his brothers' daughters to wife, and they loved Satan more than God.

28 Y aconteció que Caín tomó por esposa a una de las hijas de sus hermanos, y amaron a Satanás más que a Dios.

29 And Satan said unto Cain: Swear unto me by thy throat, and if thou tell it thou shalt die; and swear thy brethren by their heads, and by the living God, that they tell it not; for if they tell it, they shall surely die; and this that thy father may not know it; and this day I will deliver thy brother Abel into thine hands.

29 Y Satanás le dijo a Caín: Júrame por tu garganta, y si lo revelas morirás; y juramenta a tus hermanos por sus cabezas y por el Dios viviente, a fin de que no lo digan, porque si lo revelan, de seguro morirán; y esto para que tu padre no lo sepa; y este día entregaré a tu hermano Abel en tus manos.

30 And Satan sware unto Cain that he would do according to his commands. And all these things were done in secret.

30 Y Satanás juró a Caín que obraría de acuerdo con sus mandatos. Y todas estas cosas se hicieron en secreto.

31 And Cain said: Truly I am Mahan, the master of this great secret, that I may murder and get gain. Wherefore Cain was called Master Mahan, and he gloried in his wickedness.

31 Y Caín dijo: Verdaderamente yo soy Mahán, el maestro de este gran secreto, a fin de que yo pueda asesinar y obtener lucro. Por tanto, Caín fue llamado Maestro Mahán, y se gloriaba de su iniquidad.

32 And Cain went into the field, and Cain talked with Abel, his brother. And it came to pass that while they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and slew him.

32 Y Caín salió al campo y habló con Abel, su hermano. Y aconteció que mientras estaban en el campo, Caín se levantó contra Abel, su hermano, y lo mató.

33 And Cain gloried in that which he had done, saying: I am free; surely the flocks of my brother falleth into my hands.

33 Y Caín se glorió de lo que había hecho, diciendo: Estoy libre; seguramente los rebaños de mi hermano caerán en mis manos.

34 And the Lord said unto Cain: Where is Abel, thy brother? And he said: I know not. Am I my brother's keeper?

34 Y el Señor le dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está Abel, tu hermano? Y él contestó: No sé. ¿Soy yo guarda de mi hermano?

35 And the Lord said: What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother's blood cries unto me from the ground.

35 Y el Señor le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra.

36 And now thou shalt be cursed from the earth which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand.

36 Y ahora maldito serás de la tierra que abrió su boca para recibir de mano tuya la sangre de tu hermano.

37 When thou tillest the ground it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength. A fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

37 Cuando labres la tierra no te dará su fuerza de aquí en adelante. Fugitivo y vagabundo serás en la tierra.

38 And Cain said unto the Lord: Satan tempted me because of my brother's flocks. And I was wroth also; for his offering thou didst accept and not mine; my punishment is greater than I can bear.

38 Y Caín dijo al Señor: Satanás me tentó a causa de los rebaños de mi hermano. Y también estaba yo con saña, porque aceptaste su ofrenda y la mía no; mi castigo es más de lo que puedo soportar.

39 Behold thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the Lord, and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that he that findeth me will slay me, because of mine iniquities, for these things are not hid from the Lord.

39 He aquí, me echas hoy de ante la faz del Señor, y de tu presencia quedaré escondido; y seré fugitivo y vagabundo en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me encuentre me matará por causa de mis iniquidades, porque estas cosas no se ocultan del Señor.

40 And I the Lord said unto him: Whosoever slayeth thee, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And I the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

40 Y yo, el Señor, le dije: Quienquiera que te mate, siete veces se tomará en él la venganza. Y yo, el Señor, puse una marca sobre Caín, para que no lo matara cualquiera que lo hallase.

41 And Cain was shut out from the presence of the Lord, and with his wife and many of his brethren dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

41 Y Caín fue desterrado de la presencia del Señor, y con su esposa y muchos de sus hermanos habitó en la tierra de Nod, al oriente de Edén.

42 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bare Enoch, and he also begat many sons and daughters. And he builded a city, and he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.

42 Y Caín conoció a su esposa, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc, y engendró, además, a muchos hijos e hijas. Y edificó una ciudad, y dio a la ciudad el nombre de su hijo Enoc.

43 And unto Enoch was born Irad, and other sons and daughters. And Irad begat Mahujael, and other sons and daughters. And Mahujael begat Methusael, and other sons and daughters. And Methusael begat Lamech.

43 Y a Enoc le nacieron Irad y otros hijos e hijas. E Irad engendró a Mehujael y a otros hijos e hijas. Y Mehujael engendró a Metusael y a otros hijos e hijas. Y Metusael engendró a Lamec.

44 And Lamech took unto himself two wives; the name of one being Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah.

44 Y Lamec tomó para sí dos esposas; el nombre de una era Ada, y el de la otra, Zila.

45 And Adah bare Jabal; he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and they were keepers of cattle; and his brother's name was Jubal, who was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

45 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, que fue el padre de los que habitan en tiendas; y estos criaban ganado; y el nombre de su hermano fue Jubal, padre de todos los que tocan el arpa y el órgano.

46 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron. And the sister of Tubal Cain was called Naamah.

46 Y también Zila dio a luz a Tubal Caín, maestro de todo artífice en bronce y hierro. Y la hermana de Tubal Caín se llamaba Naama.

47 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah: Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech; for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

47 Y Lamec dijo a sus mujeres Ada y Zila: Oíd mi voz, mujeres de Lamec, escuchad mis palabras; porque a un hombre he dado muerte para mi perjuicio, y a un mancebo para mi daño.

48 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech shall be seventy and seven fold;

48 Si Caín ha de ser vengado siete veces, Lamec en verdad lo será setenta y siete veces;

49 For Lamech having entered into a covenant with Satan, after the manner of Cain, wherein he became Master Mahan, master of that great secret which was administered unto Cain by Satan; and Irad, the son of Enoch, having known their secret, began to reveal it unto the sons of Adam;

49 porque Lamec había hecho un pacto con Satanás, a la manera de Caín, por lo que él llegó a ser Maestro Mahán, dueño del gran secreto que Satanás administró a Caín; e Irad hijo de Enoc, habiendo descubierto el secreto de ellos, empezó a divulgarlo entre los hijos de Adán;

50 Wherefore Lamech, being angry, slew him, not like unto Cain, his brother Abel, for the sake of getting gain, but he slew him for the oath's sake.

50 por lo que Lamec, lleno de ira, lo mató; no como Caín a su hermano Abel, con el fin de obtener lucro, sino por causa del juramento.

51 For, from the days of Cain, there was a secret combination, and their works were in the dark, and they knew every man his brother.

51 Porque desde los días de Caín hubo una combinación secreta, y hacían sus obras en la obscuridad, y conocía cada cual a su hermano.

52 Wherefore the Lord cursed Lamech, and his house, and all them that had covenanted with Satan; for they kept not the commandments of God, and it displeased God, and he ministered not unto them, and their works were abominations, and began to spread among all the sons of men. And it was among the sons of men.

52 Por tanto, el Señor maldijo a Lamec y a su casa, y a todos los que habían hecho un pacto con Satanás, porque no guardaron los mandamientos de Dios y desagradó esto a Dios y no los ministró; y sus obras eran abominaciones, y empezaron a esparcirse entre todos los hijos de los hombres. Y esto estaba entre los hijos de los hombres.

53 And among the daughters of men these things were not spoken, because that Lamech had spoken the secret unto his wives, and they rebelled against him, and declared these things abroad, and had not compassion;

53 Y entre las hijas de los hombres no se hablaba de estas cosas, porque Lamec había divulgado el secreto a sus mujeres; y ellas se rebelaron en contra de él, y declararon estas cosas por todos lados, y no tuvieron compasión;

54 Wherefore Lamech was despised, and cast out, and came not among the sons of men, lest he should die.

54 de manera que Lamec fue despreciado y desterrado; y no iba entre los hijos de los hombres, por temor de morir.

55 And thus the works of darkness began to prevail among all the sons of men.

55 Y así empezaron a prevalecer las obras de tinieblas entre todos los hijos de los hombres.

56 And God cursed the earth with a sore curse, and was angry with the wicked, with all the sons of men whom he had made;

56 Y Dios maldijo la tierra con penosa maldición; y se llenó de ira contra los inicuos, contra todos los hijos de los hombres que había creado;

57 For they would not hearken unto his voice, nor believe on his Only Begotten Son, even him whom he declared should come in the meridian of time, who was prepared from before the foundation of the world.

57 porque no querían escuchar su voz, ni creer en su Hijo Unigénito, aquel que él declaró que vendría en el meridiano de los tiempos, que fue preparado desde antes de la fundación del mundo.

58 And thus the Gospel began to be preached, from the beginning, being declared by holy angels sent forth from the presence of God, and by his own voice, and by the gift of the Holy Ghost.

58 Y así se empezó a predicar el evangelio desde el principio, siendo declarado por santos ángeles enviados de la presencia de Dios, y por su propia voz, y por el don del Espíritu Santo.

59 And thus all things were confirmed unto Adam, by an holy ordinance, and the Gospel preached, and a decree sent forth, that it should be in the world, until the end thereof; and thus it was. Amen.

59 Y así se le confirmaron todas las cosas a Adán mediante una santa ordenanza; y se predicó el evangelio, y se proclamó un decreto de que estaría en el mundo hasta su fin; y así fue. Amén.
