1 In the land of the Chaldeans, at the residence of my fathers, I, Abraham, saw that it was needful for me to obtain another place of residence;

1 En la tierra de los caldeos, en la morada de mi padre, yo, Abraham, vi que me era necesario buscar otro lugar donde morar;

2 And, finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me, I sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto I should be ordained to administer the same; having been myself a follower of righteousness, desiring also to be one who possessed great knowledge, and to be a greater follower of righteousness, and to possess a greater knowledge, and to be a father of many nations, a prince of peace, and desiring to receive instructions, and to keep the commandments of God, I became a rightful heir, a High Priest, holding the right belonging to the fathers.

2 y hallando que había mayor felicidad, paz y reposo para mí, busqué las bendiciones de los padres, y el derecho al cual yo debía ser ordenado, a fin de administrarlas; habiendo sido yo mismo seguidor de la rectitud, deseando también ser el poseedor de gran conocimiento, y ser un seguidor más fiel de la rectitud, y lograr un conocimiento mayor, y ser padre de muchas naciones, un príncipe de paz, y anhelando recibir instrucciones y guardar los mandamientos de Dios, llegué a ser un heredero legítimo, un Sumo Sacerdote, poseedor del derecho que pertenecía a los patriarcas.

3 It was conferred upon me from the fathers; it came down from the fathers, from the beginning of time, yea, even from the beginning, or before the foundation of the earth, down to the present time, even the right of the firstborn, or the first man, who is Adam, or first father, through the fathers unto me.

3 Me fue conferido de los padres; descendió de los padres, desde que comenzó el tiempo, sí, aun desde el principio, o sea, antes de la fundación de la tierra hasta el tiempo presente, a saber, el derecho del primogénito, o sea, del primer hombre, el cual es Adán, nuestro primer padre, y por conducto de los padres hasta mí.

4 I sought for mine appointment unto the Priesthood according to the appointment of God unto the fathers concerning the seed.

4 Busqué mi nombramiento en el sacerdocio conforme al nombramiento de Dios a los padres en lo que atañe a la descendencia.

5 My fathers, having turned from their righteousness, and from the holy commandments which the Lord their God had given unto them, unto the worshiping of the gods of the heathen, utterly refused to hearken to my voice;

5 Habiéndose apartado mis padres de su rectitud y de los santos mandamientos que el Señor su Dios les había dado, y habiéndose entregado a la adoración de los ídolos de los paganos, se negaron por completo a escuchar mi voz;

6 For their hearts were set to do evil, and were wholly turned to the god of Elkenah, and the god of Libnah, and the god of Mahmackrah, and the god of Korash, and the god of Pharaoh, king of Egypt;

6 porque sus corazones estaban resueltos a hacer lo malo, y se habían entregado completamente al dios de Elkénah, y al dios de Líbnah, al dios de Mahmáckrah, al dios de Korash y al dios de Faraón, rey de Egipto;

7 Therefore they turned their hearts to the sacrifice of the heathen in offering up their children unto these dumb idols, and hearkened not unto my voice, but endeavored to take away my life by the hand of the priest of Elkenah. The priest of Elkenah was also the priest of Pharaoh.

7 de modo que, tornaron sus corazones al sacrificio de los paganos, ofreciendo sus hijos a sus ídolos mudos, y no escucharon mi voz, sino que trataron de quitarme la vida por mano del sacerdote de Elkénah. El sacerdote de Elkénah era también el sacerdote de Faraón.

8 Now, at this time it was the custom of the priest of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to offer up upon the altar which was built in the land of Chaldea, for the offering unto these strange gods, men, women, and children.

8 En este tiempo era costumbre del sacerdote de Faraón, rey de Egipto, ofrecer hombres, mujeres y niños como sacrificio a estos dioses extraños, sobre el altar que se había construido en la tierra de Caldea.

9 And it came to pass that the priest made an offering unto the god of Pharaoh, and also unto the god of Shagreel, even after the manner of the Egyptians. Now the god of Shagreel was the sun.

9 Y sucedió que el sacerdote ofreció un sacrificio al dios de Faraón, y también al dios de Shagreel, a la manera de los egipcios. El dios de Shagreel era el sol.

10 Even the thank-offering of a child did the priest of Pharaoh offer upon the altar which stood by the hill called Potiphar's Hill, at the head of the plain of Olishem.

10 Y hasta un niño ofreció el sacerdote de Faraón, como ofrenda de gratitud, sobre el altar que se hallaba junto a la colina llamada la colina de Potifar, a la cabecera de la planicie de Olishem.

11 Now, this priest had offered upon this altar three virgins at one time, who were the daughters of Onitah, one of the royal descent directly from the loins of Ham. These virgins were offered up because of their virtue; they would not bow down to worship gods of wood or of stone, therefore they were killed upon this altar, and it was done after the manner of the Egyptians.

11 Ahora bien, en cierta ocasión, este sacerdote había sacrificado a tres vírgenes, hijas de Onítah, uno de los de linaje real directamente de los lomos de Cam. Sacrificaron a estas vírgenes por motivo de su virtud; no quisieron postrarse para adorar dioses de madera ni de piedra; por consiguiente, les quitaron la vida sobre este altar, y se hizo según la manera de los egipcios.

12 And it came to pass that the priests laid violence upon me, that they might slay me also, as they did those virgins upon this altar; and that you may have a knowledge of this altar, I will refer you to the representation at the commencement of this record.

12 Y sucedió que los sacerdotes me tomaron por la fuerza, a fin de matarme a mí también, como lo hicieron con aquellas vírgenes sobre este altar; y para que tengáis una idea de este altar, os referiré a la representación que se encuentra al principio de este relato.

13 It was made after the form of a bedstead, such as was had among the Chaldeans, and it stood before the gods of Elkenah, Libnah, Mahmackrah, Korash, and also a god like unto that of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

13 Estaba hecho en forma de cama, semejante a las que se usaban entre los caldeos, y se hallaba ante los dioses de Elkénah, Líbnah, Mahmáckrah, Korash y también un dios parecido al de Faraón, rey de Egipto.

14 That you may have an understanding of these gods, I have given you the fashion of them in the figures at the beginning, which manner of figures is called by the Chaldeans Rahleenos, which signifies hieroglyphics.

14 Para que entendáis cómo eran estos dioses, os he hecho una representación de ellos en las figuras que se encuentran al principio, tipo de figuras que los caldeos llaman Rahleenos, que significa jeroglíficos.

15 And as they lifted up their hands upon me, that they might offer me up and take away my life, behold, I lifted up my voice unto the Lord my God, and the Lord hearkened and heard, and he filled me with the vision of the Almighty, and the angel of his presence stood by me, and immediately unloosed my bands;

15 Y al levantar sus manos contra mí para sacrificarme y quitarme la vida, he aquí, elevé mi voz al Señor mi Dios, y el Señor escuchó y oyó, y me llenó con la visión del Todopoderoso, y el ángel de su presencia se puso a mi lado e inmediatamente soltó mis ligaduras;

16 And his voice was unto me: Abraham, Abraham, behold, my name is Jehovah, and I have heard thee, and have come down to deliver thee, and to take thee away from thy father's house, and from all thy kinsfolk, into a strange land which thou knowest not of;

16 y me habló su voz: Abraham, Abraham, he aquí, Jehová es mi nombre, y te he oído, y he descendido para librarte y llevarte de la casa de tu padre y de toda tu parentela a una tierra extraña de la cual nada sabes;

17 And this because they have turned their hearts away from me, to worship the god of Elkenah, and the god of Libnah, and the god of Mahmackrah, and the god of Korash, and the god of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; therefore I have come down to visit them, and to destroy him who hath lifted up his hand against thee, Abraham, my son, to take away thy life.

17 y esto por causa de que han apartado sus corazones de mí para adorar al dios de Elkénah, y al dios de Líbnah, y al dios de Mahmáckrah, y al dios de Korash, y al dios de Faraón, rey de Egipto; por tanto, he descendido para visitarlos y destruir a aquel que ha levantado su mano contra ti, Abraham, hijo mío, para quitarte la vida.

18 Behold, I will lead thee by my hand, and I will take thee, to put upon thee my name, even the Priesthood of thy father, and my power shall be over thee.

18 He aquí, con mi mano te conduciré, y te llevaré para poner sobre ti mi nombre, sí, el sacerdocio de tu padre, y mi poder descansará sobre ti.

19 As it was with Noah so shall it be with thee; but through thy ministry my name shall be known in the earth forever, for I am thy God.

19 Cual fue con Noé, tal será contigo; pero mediante tu ministerio se conocerá mi nombre en la tierra para siempre, porque yo soy tu Dios.

20 Behold, Potiphar's Hill was in the land of Ur, of Chaldea. And the Lord broke down the altar of Elkenah, and of the gods of the land, and utterly destroyed them, and smote the priest that he died; and there was great mourning in Chaldea, and also in the court of Pharaoh; which Pharaoh signifies king by royal blood.

20 He aquí, la colina de Potifar se hallaba en la tierra de Ur de los caldeos. Y el Señor derribó el altar de Elkénah y de los dioses de la tierra, y los destruyó por completo, e hirió al sacerdote de modo que murió; y hubo gran luto en Caldea y también en la corte de Faraón; y Faraón significa rey por sangre real.

21 Now this king of Egypt was a descendant from the loins of Ham, and was a partaker of the blood of the Canaanites by birth.

21 Este rey de Egipto era descendiente de los lomos de Cam y por nacimiento era de la sangre de los cananeos.

22 From this descent sprang all the Egyptians, and thus the blood of the Canaanites was preserved in the land.

22 De esta descendencia nacieron todos los egipcios, y así se conservó la sangre de los cananeos en la tierra.

23 The land of Egypt being first discovered by a woman, who was the daughter of Ham, and the daughter of Egyptus, which in the Chaldean signifies Egypt, which signifies that which is forbidden;

23 La tierra de Egipto fue descubierta primeramente por una mujer que era hija de Cam e hija de Egyptus, que en caldeo significa Egipto, y quiere decir aquello que está prohibido.

24 When this woman discovered the land it was under water, who afterward settled her sons in it; and thus, from Ham, sprang that race which preserved the curse in the land.

24 Cuando esta mujer la descubrió, la tierra se hallaba inundada, y más tarde estableció a sus hijos allí; y así nació de Cam la raza que conservó la maldición sobre la tierra.

25 Now the first government of Egypt was established by Pharaoh, the eldest son of Egyptus, the daughter of Ham, and it was after the manner of the government of Ham, which was patriarchal.

25 Ahora, Faraón, el hijo mayor de Egyptus, hija de Cam, estableció el primer gobierno de Egipto, y fue a semejanza del gobierno de Cam, el cual era patriarcal.

26 Pharaoh, being a righteous man, established his kingdom and judged his people wisely and justly all his days, seeking earnestly to imitate that order established by the fathers in the first generations, in the days of the first patriarchal reign, even in the reign of Adam, and also of Noah, his father, who blessed him with the blessings of the earth, and with the blessings of wisdom, but cursed him as pertaining to the Priesthood.

26 Faraón, siendo un hombre justo, estableció su reino y juzgó prudente y rectamente a su pueblo todos sus días, tratando sinceramente de imitar el orden que los padres establecieron en las primeras generaciones, en los días del primer reinado patriarcal, sí, en el reinado de Adán y también de Noé, su padre, quien lo bendijo con las bendiciones de la tierra y con las bendiciones de sabiduría, mas lo maldijo en cuanto al sacerdocio.

27 Now, Pharaoh being of that lineage by which he could not have the right of Priesthood, notwithstanding the Pharaohs would fain claim it from Noah, through Ham, therefore my father was led away by their idolatry;

27 Siendo, pues, Faraón de ese linaje que le impedía poseer el derecho del sacerdocio, aun cuando los Faraones de buena gana lo habrían reclamado de Noé, por el linaje de Cam, resultó que mi padre fue descarriado por la idolatría de ellos;

28 But I shall endeavor, hereafter, to delineate the chronology running back from myself to the beginning of the creation, for the records have come into my hands, which I hold unto this present time.

28 pero de aquí en adelante procuraré delinear la cronología que se remonta desde mí hasta el principio de la creación, porque han llegado a mis manos los anales que tengo hasta el día de hoy.

29 Now, after the priest of Elkenah was smitten that he died, there came a fulfilment of those things which were said unto me concerning the land of Chaldea, that there should be a famine in the land.

29 Y después que el sacerdote de Elkénah fue herido y murió, se cumplieron las cosas que me fueron dichas con respecto a la tierra de Caldea, de que habría hambre en la tierra.

30 Accordingly a famine prevailed throughout all the land of Chaldea, and my father was sorely tormented because of the famine, and he repented of the evil which he had determined against me, to take away my life.

30 De modo que prevaleció el hambre por toda la tierra de Caldea, y mi padre se vio atormentado gravemente por causa del hambre, y se arrepintió del mal que había resuelto en contra de mí para quitarme la vida.

31 But the records of the fathers, even the patriarchs, concerning the right of Priesthood, the Lord my God preserved in mine own hands; therefore a knowledge of the beginning of the creation, and also of the planets, and of the stars, as they were made known unto the fathers, have I kept even unto this day, and I shall endeavor to write some of these things upon this record, for the benefit of my posterity that shall come after me.

31 Pero el Señor mi Dios preservó en mis propias manos los anales de los padres, sí, los patriarcas, concernientes al derecho del sacerdocio; por tanto, he guardado hasta el día de hoy el conocimiento del principio de la creación, y también de los planetas y de las estrellas, tal como se dio a conocer a los patriarcas; y trataré de escribir algunas de estas cosas en este relato para el beneficio de mi posteridad que vendrá después de mí.
