1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

1 Dad oídos, pueblo mío, a mi ley; inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca.

2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

2 Abriré mi boca en parábolas; hablaré cosas reservadas desde la antigüedad,

3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

3 las cuales hemos oído y entendido, y que nuestros padres nos contaron.

4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

4 No las encubriremos a sus hijos; contaremos a la generación venidera las alabanzas de Jehová, y su poder y las maravillas que hizo.

5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

5 Él estableció testimonio en Jacob, y puso ley en Israel, la cual mandó a nuestros padres que la hiciesen saber a sus hijos,

6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

6 para que lo sepa la generación venidera, los hijos que nazcan; y los que se levanten lo cuenten a sus hijos,

7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

7 a fin de que pongan en Dios su confianza y no se olviden de las obras de Dios, sino que guarden sus mandamientos;

8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

8 y no sean como sus padres, generación contumaz y rebelde, generación que no dispuso su corazón, ni cuyo espíritu fue fiel para con Dios.

9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

9 Los hijos de Efraín armados, flecheros, volvieron las espaldas en el día de la batalla.

10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

10 No guardaron el convenio de Dios y rehusaron andar en su ley;

11 And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

11 y se olvidaron de sus obras y de las maravillas que les había mostrado.

12 Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

12 Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.

13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

13 Dividió el mar y los hizo pasar; contuvo las aguas como en un montón.

14 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

14 Y los gui o de día con la nube, y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego.

15 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

15 Hendió las peñas en el desierto, y les dio a beber como de grandes profundidades,

16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

16 pues sacó de la peña corrientes e hizo descender aguas como ríos.

17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

17 Pero aun así siguieron pecando más contra él, rebelándose contra el Altísimo en el desierto,

18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

18 pues tentaron a Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida a su antojo.

19 Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

19 Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: ¿Podrá Dios poner mesa en el desierto?

20 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

20 He aquí, ha herido la peña, y brotaron aguas y torrentes se desbordaron. ¿Podrá él también dar pan? ¿Proveerá de carne a su pueblo?

21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

21 Por tanto, oyó Jehová y se indignó; fuego se encendió contra Jacob y el furor subió también contra Israel,

22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

22 por cuanto no habían creído a Dios ni habían confiado en su salvación.

23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

23 Aun así, mandó a las nubes de arriba, y abrió las puertas de los cielos,

24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

24 e hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, y les dio trigo de los cielos.

25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

25 Pan de ángeles comió el hombre; les envió comida hasta saciarlos.

26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

26 Hizo soplar el viento solano en el cielo, y trajo con su poder el viento del sur,

27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

27 e hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo, y aladas aves como arena del mar.

28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

28 Y las hizo caer en medio de su campamento, alrededor de sus tiendas.

29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

29 Y comieron hasta saciarse; les cumplió, pues, su deseo.

30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

30 No habían quitado de sí su antojo; aún estaba la comida en su boca,

31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

31 cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, e hizo morir a los más robustos de ellos y derribó a los escogidos de Israel.

32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

32 Con todo esto, pecaron aún y no creyeron en sus maravillas.

33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

33 Por tanto, consumió en vanidad sus días y sus años en tribulación.

34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after God.

34 Si los hacía morir, entonces buscaban a Dios y se volvían solícitos en su busca.

35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

35 Y se acordaban de que Dios era su roca, y el Dios Altísimo su redentor.

36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

36 Mas le lisonjeaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían,

37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.

37 pues sus corazones no eran rectos con él, ni permanecieron firmes en su convenio.

38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

38 Pero él, misericordioso, perdonaba la maldad y no los destruía; y muchas veces apartó su ira y no despertó todo su enojo.

39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

39 Y se acordó de que eran carne, soplo que va y no vuelve.

40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

40 ¡Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en el desierto y lo enojaron en el yermo!

41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

41 Y volvían y tentaban a Dios, y afligían al Santo de Israel.

42 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

42 No se acordaban de su mano, del día en que los redimió del adversario,

43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

43 cuando puso en Egipto sus señales, y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán.

44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

44 Y convirtió sus ríos en sangre, también sus corrientes, para que no bebiesen.

45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

45 Envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los devoraban, y ranas que los destruían.

46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

46 Dio también al saltamontes sus cosechas, y sus labores a la langosta.

47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

47 Sus viñas destruyó con granizo, y sus higuerales con escarcha;

48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

48 y entregó al granizo sus ganados, y a los rayos sus rebaños.

49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

49 Envió sobre ellos el ardor de su enojo, ira, e indignación y angustia, una hueste de ángeles destructores.

50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

50 Dispuso camino a su furor; no eximió la vida de ellos de la muerte, sino que entregó sus vidas a la plaga.

51 And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

51 E hizo morir a todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias del vigor en las tiendas de Cam.

52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

52 Pero hizo salir a su pueblo como a ovejas, y los llevó por el desierto como a un rebaño.

53 And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

53 Y los guio con seguridad, y no tuvieron miedo; y el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.

54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

54 Los trajo después a las fronteras de su tierra santa, a este monte que ganó su mano derecha.

55 He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

55 Y expulsó a las naciones de delante de ellos, y les repartió a cordel la heredad, e hizo habitar en sus tiendas a las tribus de Israel.

56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

56 Mas tentaron al Dios Altísimo y se rebelaron contra él y no guardaron sus testimonios,

57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

57 sino que se volvieron atrás y se rebelaron como sus padres. Se torcieron como un arco engañoso.

58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

58 Y le enojaron con sus lugares altos, y le provocaron a celo con sus imágenes talladas.

59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

59 Lo oyó Dios, y se enojó, y en gran manera rechazó a Israel.

60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

60 Abandonó, por tanto, el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda en que habitó entre los hombres;

61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

61 y entregó a cautividad su poderío; y su gloria, en manos del enemigo.

62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

62 Entregó también su pueblo a la espada, y se enfureció contra su heredad.

63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

63 El fuego devoró a sus jóvenes, y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas en cantos nupciales.

64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

64 Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada, y sus viudas no hicieron lamentación.

65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

65 Entonces despertó el Señor como quien duerme, como un valiente que grita excitado por el vino,

66 And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

66 e hirió a sus enemigos por la espalda; los puso en perpetua afrenta.

67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

67 Y desechó el tabernáculo de José, y no escogió a la tribu de Efraín,

68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

68 sino que escogió a la tribu de Judá, el monte Sion, al cual amó.

69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

69 Y edificó su santuario como las alturas, como la tierra que fundó para siempre.

70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

70 Y eligió a David su siervo, y lo tomó de los rediles de las ovejas.

71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

71 Lo trajo de cuidar las ovejas que amamantaban, para que apacentase a Jacob su pueblo y a Israel su heredad.

72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

72 Y los apacentó según la integridad de su corazón, y los guio con la pericia de sus manos.
