1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

1 Hijo mío, si has salido fiador por tu amigo, si has estrechado tu mano con un extraño,

2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

2 te has enlazado con las palabras de tu boca, has quedado atrapado en los dichos de tu boca.

3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

3 Haz esto ahora, hijo mío, y líbrate, ya que has caído en manos de tu prójimo; ve, humíllate e importuna a tu amigo.

4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

4 No des sueño a tus ojos ni adormecimiento a tus párpados;

5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

5 escápate como la gacela de manos del cazador, y como el ave de manos del que tiende trampas.

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

6 Ve a la hormiga, oh perezoso; mira sus caminos y sé sabio;

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

7 la cual, no teniendo capitán, ni gobernador ni señor,

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

8 prepara en el verano su comida, y recoge en el tiempo de la siega su sustento.

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

9 Perezoso, ¿hasta cuándo has de dormir? ¿Cuándo te levantarás de tu sueño?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

10 Un poco de sueño, un poco de dormitar, un poco de cruzar las manos para dormir,

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

11 así vendrá tu necesidad como caminante, y tu pobreza como hombre armado.

12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

12 El hombre malo, el hombre inicuo, anda en perversidad de boca;

13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

13 guiña los ojos, habla con sus pies, indica con sus dedos.

14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

14 Perversidades hay en su corazón, anda pensando el mal en todo tiempo, siembra la discordia.

15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

15 Por tanto, su calamidad vendrá de repente; súbitamente será quebrantado, y no habrá remedio.

16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

16 Seis cosas aborrece Jehová, y aun siete abomina su alma:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

17 Los ojos altivos, la lengua mentirosa, las manos derramadoras de sangre inocente,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

18 el corazón que maquina pensamientos inicuos, los pies presurosos para correr al mal,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

19 el testigo falso que habla mentiras, y el que siembra discordia entre hermanos.

20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

20 Guarda, hijo mío, el mandamiento de tu padre, y no abandones la enseñanza de tu madre;

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

21 átalos siempre en tu corazón, enlázalos a tu cuello.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

22 Te guiarán cuando camines, cuando duermas te guardarán, y hablarán contigo cuando despiertes.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

23 Porque el mandamiento es lámpara, y la enseñanza es luz; y camino de vida son las correcciones de la disciplina,

24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

24 para guardarte de la mala mujer, de la suavidad de la lengua de la mujer extraña.

25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

25 No codicies su hermosura en tu corazón, ni te cautive ella con sus párpados,

26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

26 porque a causa de la ramera el hombre es reducido a un bocado de pan, y la adúltera caza la preciosa alma del hombre.

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

27 ¿Tomará el hombre fuego en su seno sin que sus vestidos se quemen?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

28 ¿Andará el hombre sobre brasas sin que se quemen sus pies?

29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

29 Así le sucede al que se llega a la esposa de su prójimo; no quedará sin culpa ninguno que la toque.

30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

30 No se desprecia al ladrón si roba para saciarse cuando tiene hambre,

31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

31 pero si es sorprendido, pagará siete veces. Tendrá que dar todos los bienes de su casa.

32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

32 Mas el que comete adulterio con una mujer carece de entendimiento; corrompe su alma el que tal hace.

33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

33 Heridas e ignominia hallará, y su afrenta nunca será borrada.

34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

34 Porque los celos son el furor del hombre, y no perdonará en el día de la venganza.

35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

35 No aceptará compensación alguna, ni se contentará, aunque le multipliques los presentes.
