15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

16 El perezoso es más sabio ante sus propios ojos que siete que sepan aconsejar.

17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

17 El que al pasar se entremete en contienda ajena es como el que toma al perro por las orejas.

18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

19 tal es el hombre que engaña a su amigo y dice: ¿Acaso no bromeaba yo?

20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

20 Sin leña se apaga el fuego; y donde no hay chismoso, cesa la contienda.

21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

21 Como el carbón para las brasas y la leña para el fuego, así es el hombre rencilloso para encender contienda.

22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

22 Las palabras del chismoso son como bocados deliciosos que descienden hasta lo profundo del ser.

23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

23 Como escoria de plata echada sobre un tiesto son los labios enardecidos y el corazón malo.

24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

24 El que odia disimula con sus labios, pero en su interior maquina engaño;

25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

25 cuando hable amigablemente, no le creas, porque siete abominaciones hay en su corazón.

26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

26 Aunque su odio encubra con disimulo, su maldad será descubierta en la congregación.

27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

27 El que cava fosa caerá en ella; y al que hace rodar la piedra, esta se le vendrá encima.

28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

28 La lengua mentirosa aborrece a los que oprime, y la boca lisonjera hace tropezar.
