1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

1 De más estima es el buen nombre que las muchas riquezas, y la buena fama más que la plata y el oro.

2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

2 El rico y el pobre se encuentran; a todos ellos los hizo Jehová.

3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

3 El prudente ve el mal y se esconde, pero los ingenuos pasan y reciben el daño.

4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

4 Riquezas, y honra y vida son la remuneración de la humildad y del temor de Jehová.

5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

5 Espinas y trampas hay en el camino del perverso; el que guarda su alma se alejará de ellos.

6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

6 Instruye al niño en su camino; y aun cuando fuere viejo, no se apartará de él.

7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

7 El rico se enseñorea de los pobres; y el que toma prestado es siervo del que presta.

8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

8 El que siembra iniquidad, iniquidad segará, y perecerá la vara de su ira.

9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

9 El ojo misericordioso será bendito, porque dio de su pan al indigente.

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

10 Echa fuera al escarnecedor, y saldrá la contienda, y cesarán el pleito y la afrenta.

11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

11 El que ama la pureza de corazón, por la gracia de sus labios, el rey será su amigo.

12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

12 Los ojos de Jehová velan por el conocimiento, pero él trastorna las palabras de los pérfidos.

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

13 Dice el perezoso: Hay un león fuera; me matará en la calle.

14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

14 Fosa profunda es la boca de la mujer extraña; aquel al que Jehová aborrezca caerá en ella.

15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

15 La necedad está ligada al corazón del muchacho, mas la vara de la corrección la alejará de él.

16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

16 El que oprime al pobre para enriquecerse, y que da al rico, ciertamente será pobre.

17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

17 Inclina tu oído, y oye las palabras de los sabios, y aplica tu corazón a mi conocimiento,

18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

18 porque es cosa deleitable que las guardes dentro de ti, y se afirmarán en tus labios.

19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

19 Para que tu confianza esté en Jehová, te las he hecho saber hoy a ti también.

20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

20 ¿No te he escrito tres veces en consejos y en conocimiento,

21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

21 para hacerte saber la certeza de las palabras de verdad, a fin de que respondas palabras de verdad a los que a ti te envíen?

22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

22 No robes al pobre, porque es pobre; ni oprimas en la puerta al afligido,

23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

23 porque Jehová juzgará la causa de ellos, y despojará el alma de aquellos que los despojen.

24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

24 No hagas amistad con el iracundo ni andes con el hombre irascible,

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

25 no sea que aprendas sus maneras y tiendas trampa para tu propia alma.

26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

26 No estés entre los que se estrechan la mano, entre los que salen fiadores de deudas.

27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

27 Si no tienes con qué pagar, ¿por qué han de quitar tu cama de debajo de ti?

28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

28 No traspases los linderos antiguos que pusieron tus padres.

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

29 ¿Has visto hombre diligente en su obra? Delante de los reyes estará; no estará delante de los de baja condición.
