1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

3 Cuando viene el malvado, viene también el menosprecio, y con la ignominia, viene la afrenta.

4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

4 Aguas profundas son las palabras de la boca del hombre; arroyo que fluye, la fuente de la sabiduría.

5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

5 Tener respeto a la persona del malvado para hacer caer al justo en el juicio no es bueno.

6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

6 Los labios del necio entran en contienda, y su boca clama por azotes.

7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

7 La boca del necio es destrucción para sí, y sus labios son trampa para su alma.

8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

8 Las palabras del chismoso son como bocados deliciosos y descienden hasta lo profundo del vientre.

9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

9 También el que es negligente en su trabajo es hermano del hombre destructor.

10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

10 Torre fuerte es el nombre de Jehová; a ella corre el justo y está a salvo.

11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

11 Las riquezas del rico son su ciudad fortificada; son como un muro alto en su imaginación.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

12 Antes del quebranto se enorgullece el corazón del hombre, y a la honra precede la humildad.

13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

13 Al que responde a un asunto antes de haber oído, le es necedad y oprobio.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

14 El espíritu del hombre soportará su enfermedad, pero, ¿quién soportará el ánimo angustiado?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

15 El corazón del entendido adquiere conocimiento, y el oído de los sabios busca el conocimiento.

16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

16 Los regalos del hombre le abren el camino y le llevan delante de los grandes.

17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

17 Justo parece el primero que aboga por su propia causa, hasta que viene su prójimo y le pone a prueba.

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

18 El echar suertes pone fin a los pleitos y decide entre los poderosos.

19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

19 El hermano ofendido es más tenaz que una ciudad fuerte, y las contiendas son como cerrojos de alcázar.

20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

20 Del fruto de la boca del hombre se saciará su vientre; se saciará del producto de sus labios.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

21 La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua, y los que la aman comerán de sus frutos.

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

22 El que halla esposa halla el bien y alcanza la benevolencia de Jehová.

23 The poor useth entreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

23 El pobre habla con ruegos, pero el rico responde con dureza.

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

24 El hombre que tiene amigos ha de mostrarse amistoso, y hay amigos más unidos que un hermano.
