1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

1 El hijo sabio acepta la disciplina del padre, pero el insolente no escucha la reprensión.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

2 Del fruto de su boca el hombre comerá el bien, pero el alma de los prevaricadores hallará la violencia.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

3 El que guarda su boca guarda su alma, pero el que mucho abre sus labios acaba en desastre.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

4 El alma del perezoso desea y nada alcanza, pero el alma de los diligentes será prosperada.

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

5 El justo aborrece la mentira, pero el malvado se hace odioso e infame.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

6 La justicia guarda el camino del íntegro, pero la maldad trastornará al pecador.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

7 Hay quienes presumen de ricos y no tienen nada; y hay quienes pasan por pobres y tienen muchas riquezas.

8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

8 El rescate de la vida del hombre son sus riquezas, pero el pobre no oye reprensión.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

9 La luz de los justos se regocijará, pero la lámpara de los malvados se apagará.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

10 Ciertamente la soberbia producirá contienda, pero con los bien aconsejados está la sabiduría.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

11 Las riquezas obtenidas por vanidad disminuirán, pero el que recoge con mano laboriosa las aumentará.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

12 La esperanza que se prolonga es tormento del corazón, mas árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

13 El que menosprecia la palabra perecerá por ello, pero el que teme el mandamiento será recompensado.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

14 La enseñanza del sabio es manantial de vida para apartarse de los lazos de la muerte.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

15 El buen entendimiento da gracia, pero el camino de los transgresores es duro.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

16 Todo hombre prudente procede con sabiduría, pero el necio manifiesta necedad.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

17 El mensajero inicuo caerá en el mal, pero el mensajero fiel es medicina.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

18 Pobreza y vergüenza tendrá el que menosprecia la disciplina, pero el que acepta la corrección será honrado.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

19 El deseo cumplido es dulzura para el alma, pero apartarse del mal es abominación para los necios.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

20 El que anda entre sabios será sabio, pero el que se junta con necios sufrirá el mal.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

21 El mal perseguirá a los pecadores, pero el bien recompensará a los justos.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

22 El bueno dejará herencia a los hijos de sus hijos, y la riqueza del pecador está guardada para el justo.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

23 En el barbecho de los pobres hay mucho pan, pero se pierde por falta de justicia.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

24 El que no aplica el castigo aborrece a su hijo; pero el que le ama le corrige oportunamente.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

25 El justo come hasta saciar su alma, pero el vientre de los malvados quedará vacío.
