1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

1 Los proverbios de Salomón hijo de David, rey de Israel:

2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

2 Para conocer sabiduría y disciplina, para entender palabras de entendimiento,

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

3 para recibir instrucción de prudencia, justicia, y juicio y equidad,

4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

4 para dar sagacidad a los ingenuos, y a los jóvenes inteligencia y cordura.

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

5 Oirá el sabio y aumentará su saber; y el entendido adquirirá consejo

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

6 para entender proverbios y declaraciones, las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

7 El principio de la sabiduría es el temor de Jehová; los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la disciplina.

8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

8 Oye, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre, y no desprecies la enseñanza de tu madre,

9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

9 porque adorno de gracia serán para tu cabeza y collares para tu cuello.

10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quieren tentar, no consientas.

11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

11 Si dicen: Ven con nosotros, pongámonos al acecho para derramar sangre; acechemos sin motivo al inocente;

12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

12 los tragaremos vivos como el Seol, y enteros, como los que descienden a la fosa;

13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

13 hallaremos toda clase de riquezas; llenaremos nuestras casas con el botín;

14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

14 echa tu suerte entre nosotros; hagamos una bolsa común.

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

15 Hijo mío, no andes en camino con ellos; aparta tu pie de sus veredas,

16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

16 porque sus pies corren hacia el mal, y van presurosos a derramar sangre.

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

17 Porque en vano se tiende la red ante los ojos de toda ave;

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

18 mas ellos a su propia sangre ponen acechanzas, y a sus almas tienden trampa.

19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

19 Tales son las sendas de todo el que es dado a la codicia, la cual quita la vida de sus poseedores.

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

20 La sabiduría clama en las calles; alza su voz en las plazas;

21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

21 clama en los principales lugares de reunión; a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad pronuncia sus palabras.

22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

22 ¿Hasta cuándo, oh ingenuos, amaréis la ingenuidad, y los burladores se deleitarán en hacer burla, y los insensatos aborrecerán el conocimiento?

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

23 Volveos a mi reprensión; he aquí, yo derramaré mi espíritu sobre vosotros y os haré saber mis palabras.

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

24 Porque he llamado, y habéis rehusado oír; extendí mi mano, y no hubo quien atendiera,

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

25 sino que desechasteis todo consejo mío y mi reprensión no quisisteis;

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

26 también yo me reiré en vuestra calamidad, y me burlaré cuando os venga lo que teméis,

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

27 cuando venga como una destrucción lo que teméis, y vuestra calamidad llegue como un torbellino, cuando sobre vosotros vengan tribulación y angustia.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

28 Entonces me llamarán, y no responderé; me buscarán de mañana y no me hallarán.

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

29 Por cuanto aborrecieron la sabiduría, y no escogieron el temor de Jehová,

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

30 ni quisieron mi consejo, y menospreciaron toda reprensión mía,

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

31 comerán, pues, del fruto de su camino, y se hastiarán de sus propias artimañas.

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

32 Porque el desvío de los ingenuos los matará, y la prosperidad de los necios los destruirá.

33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

33 Mas el que me escuchare habitará con seguridad y vivirá tranquilo, sin temor del mal.
