1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

1 Y habló Jehová a Moisés en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó, diciendo:

2 Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

2 Manda a los hijos de Israel que den a los levitas, de la posesión de su heredad, ciudades en que habiten. También daréis a los levitas campos alrededor de esas ciudades.

3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

3 Y tendrán ellos las ciudades para habitar, y los campos de ellas serán para sus animales, y para sus ganados y para todas sus bestias.

4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

4 Y los campos de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán de mil codos alrededor, desde el muro de la ciudad hacia fuera.

5 And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

5 Luego mediréis fuera de la ciudad al lado oriental dos mil codos, y al lado sur dos mil codos, y al lado occidental dos mil codos, y al lado norte dos mil codos, y la ciudad estará en medio; esto tendrán como campos alrededor de las ciudades.

6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

6 Y de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas, seis ciudades serán de refugio, las cuales daréis para que el homicida se refugie allá; y además de estas daréis cuarenta y dos ciudades.

7 So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

7 Todas las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán cuarenta y ocho ciudades con sus campos.

8 And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

8 Y las ciudades que deis de la heredad de los hijos de Israel, del que tiene mucho tomaréis mucho y del que tiene poco tomaréis poco; cada uno dará de sus ciudades a los levitas según la posesión que heredará.

9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

9 Y habló Jehová a Moisés, diciendo:

10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

10 Habla a los hijos de Israel y diles: Cuando hayáis pasado el Jordán a la tierra de Canaán,

11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

11 os señalaréis ciudades, ciudades de refugio tendréis, donde huya el homicida que haya matado a alguno sin intención.

12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

12 Y os serán aquellas ciudades para refugiarse del vengador, y así no morirá el homicida hasta que comparezca a juicio delante de la congregación.

13 And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

13 De las ciudades, pues, que daréis, tendréis seis ciudades de refugio.

14 Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

14 Tres ciudades daréis de este lado del Jordán y tres ciudades daréis en la tierra de Canaán, las cuales serán ciudades de refugio.

15 These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

15 Estas seis ciudades serán de refugio para los hijos de Israel, y para el peregrino y el que more entre ellos, a fin de que huya allá cualquiera que haya matado a otro sin intención.

16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

16 Y si con instrumento de hierro lo hiere, y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

17 Y si lo hiere con una piedra en la mano, y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

18 Y si lo hiere con instrumento de palo en la mano, y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

19 The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

19 El vengador de la sangre, él matará al homicida; cuando lo encuentre, él le matará.

20 But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

20 Y si por odio lo empujó, o lanzó sobre él alguna cosa al acecharlo, y muere,

21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

21 o por enemistad lo hirió con su mano, y murió, el heridor morirá; es homicida. El vengador de la sangre matará al homicida cuando lo encuentre.

22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

22 Mas si casualmente lo empujó sin enemistad, o lanzó sobre él cualquier instrumento sin acecharlo,

23 Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

23 o bien, sin verlo, hizo caer sobre él alguna piedra que podía matarlo, y muere, y él no era su enemigo, ni procuraba su mal,

24 Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

24 entonces la congregación juzgará entre el heridor y el vengador de la sangre, conforme a estas leyes.

25 And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

25 Y la congregación librará al homicida de manos del vengador de la sangre, y la congregación lo hará volver a su ciudad de refugio en la cual se había refugiado; y morará en ella hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote que fue ungido con el aceite santo.

26 But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

26 Pero si el homicida sale fuera de los límites de su ciudad de refugio, en la cual se refugió,

27 And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

27 y el vengador de la sangre lo halla fuera de los límites de la ciudad de su refugio, y el vengador de la sangre mata al homicida, no se le culpará por ello,

28 Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

28 pues en su ciudad de refugio debió aquel habitar hasta que muriese el sumo sacerdote; pero después de la muerte del sumo sacerdote, el homicida volverá a la tierra de su posesión.

29 So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

29 Y estas cosas os serán por estatuto de derecho por vuestras generaciones, en todas vuestras moradas.

30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

30 Cualquiera que mate a alguien, por la declaración de testigos morirá el homicida; pero un solo testigo no dará fe contra alguna persona para que muera.

31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

31 Y no tomaréis precio por la vida del homicida, porque está condenado a muerte, pues indefectiblemente morirá.

32 And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

32 Ni tampoco tomaréis precio del que huyó a su ciudad de refugio, para que vuelva a vivir en su tierra, hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote.

33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

33 Y no contaminaréis la tierra donde habitéis, porque la sangre derramada contaminará la tierra; y la tierra no será expiada de la sangre que fue derramada en ella, sino por la sangre del que la derramó.

34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

34 No contaminéis, pues, la tierra donde habitáis, en medio de la cual yo habito, porque yo, Jehová, habito en medio de los hijos de Israel.
