1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.

1 Y cuando el cananeo, el rey de Arad, el cual habitaba al sur, oyó que venía Israel por el camino de los centinelas, peleó contra Israel y tomó de él prisioneros.

2 And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

2 Entonces Israel hizo voto a Jehová y dijo: Si en efecto entregas a este pueblo en mis manos, yo destruiré por completo sus ciudades.

3 And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.

3 Y Jehová escuchó la voz de Israel y le entregó al cananeo, y los destruyó a ellos y a sus ciudades; y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Horma.

4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

4 Y partieron del monte Hor, camino del mar Rojo, para rodear la tierra de Edom; y se abatió el ánimo del pueblo por el camino.

5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

5 Y habló el pueblo contra Dios y contra Moisés: ¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto para que muramos en este desierto? Pues no hay pan ni agua, y nuestra alma tiene fastidio de este pan tan liviano.

6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

6 Y Jehová envió entre el pueblo serpientes ardientes que mordían al pueblo; y murió mucha gente de Israel.

7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

7 Entonces el pueblo acudió a Moisés, y le dijeron: Hemos pecado por haber hablado contra Jehová y contra ti; ruega a Jehová que quite de nosotros estas serpientes. Y Moisés oró por el pueblo.

8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

8 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Hazte una serpiente ardiente y ponla sobre un asta; y acontecerá que cualquiera que sea mordido y la mire, vivirá.

9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

9 Y Moisés hizo una serpiente de bronce y la puso sobre un asta, y sucedía que cuando una serpiente mordía a alguno, y este miraba a la serpiente de bronce, vivía.

10 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.

10 Y partieron los hijos de Israel y acamparon en Obot.

11 And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.

11 Y partieron de Obot y acamparon en Ije-abarim, en el desierto que está delante de Moab, hacia el nacimiento del sol.

12 From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.

12 Partieron de allí y acamparon en el valle de Zered.

13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

13 De allí partieron y acamparon al otro lado del Arnón, que está en el desierto y que sale del territorio del amorreo, porque el Arnón es la frontera de Moab, entre Moab y el amorreo.

14 Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,

14 Por tanto se dice en el libro de las batallas de Jehová: Lo que hizo en el mar Rojo y en los arroyos del Arnón;

15 And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.

15 y a la corriente de los arroyos que va a parar en Ar y descansa en la frontera de Moab.

16 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

16 Y de allí fueron a Beer; este es el pozo del cual Jehová dijo a Moisés: Reúne al pueblo, y les daré agua.

17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:

17 Entonces cantó Israel este cántico: Sube, oh pozo; a él cantad.

18 The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:

18 Pozo que cavaron los señores; lo cavaron los príncipes del pueblo, y el legislador, con sus báculos. Y del desierto fueron a Matana,

19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:

19 y de Matana a Nahaliel, y de Nahaliel a Bamot,

20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.

20 y de Bamot al valle que está en los campos de Moab, y a la cumbre del Pisga, que mira hacia Jesimón.

21 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

21 Y envió Israel embajadores a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, diciendo:

22 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past thy borders.

22 Pasaré por tu tierra; no nos desviaremos por los labrados ni por las viñas; no beberemos las aguas de los pozos; por el camino real iremos, hasta que pasemos tu territorio.

23 And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

23 Pero Sehón no dejó pasar a Israel por su territorio; más bien, juntó Sehón todo su pueblo y salió contra Israel en el desierto, y llegó a Jahaza y peleó contra Israel.

24 And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.

24 Y lo hirió Israel a filo de espada y tomó su tierra desde el Arnón hasta el Jaboc, hasta donde estaban los hijos de Amón, porque la frontera de los hijos de Amón era fuerte.

25 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.

25 Y tomó Israel todas estas ciudades, y habitó Israel en todas las ciudades del amorreo, en Hesbón y en todas sus aldeas.

26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.

26 Porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, el cual había tenido guerra antes contra el rey de Moab, y había tomado de su poder toda su tierra hasta el Arnón.

27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:

27 Por tanto, dicen los proverbistas: Venid a Hesbón, edifíquese y repárese la ciudad de Sehón.

28 For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.

28 Porque fuego salió de Hesbón, y llama de la ciudad de Sehón, y consumió a Ar de Moab, a los señores de las alturas del Arnón.

29 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

29 ¡Ay de ti, Moab! Has perecido, pueblo de Quemos. Ha puesto sus hijos en huida, y sus hijas en cautividad, a Sehón, rey de los amorreos.

30 We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.

30 Mas devastamos el reino de ellos; pereció Hesbón hasta Dibón, y destruimos hasta Nofa y Medeba.

31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.

31 Así habitó Israel en la tierra del amorreo.

32 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.

32 Y envió Moisés a reconocer a Jazer; y tomaron sus aldeas y echaron al amorreo que estaba allí.

33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.

33 Y volvieron y subieron camino de Basán, y salió contra ellos Og, rey de Basán, él y todo su pueblo, para pelear en Edrei.

34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

34 Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés: No le tengas miedo, porque en tus manos lo he entregado, a él, y a todo su pueblo y su tierra; y harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón.

35 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.

35 E hirieron a él, y a sus hijos y a toda su gente, sin que le quedara uno con vida, y poseyeron su tierra.
