1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

1 Y se reunió todo el pueblo como un solo hombre en la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las Aguas, y dijeron a Esdras, el escriba, que trajese el libro de la ley de Moisés, la cual Jehová había dado a Israel.

2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

2 Y Esdras, el sacerdote, trajo la ley delante de la congregación, tanto de hombres como de mujeres, y de todos los que podían entender lo que oían, el primer día del mes séptimo.

3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

3 Y leyó en el libro delante de la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las Aguas, desde el alba hasta el mediodía, en presencia de hombres, y de mujeres y de todos los que podían entender; y los oídos de todo el pueblo estaban atentos al libro de la ley.

4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

4 Y el escriba Esdras estaba sobre un estrado de madera que habían hecho para ello; y junto a él estaban Matatías, y Sema, y Anías, y Urías, e Hilcías y Maasías, a su mano derecha; y a su mano izquierda, Pedaías, y Misael, y Malquías, y Hasum, y Hasbadana, Zacarías y Mesulam.

5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

5 Abrió, pues, Esdras el libro ante los ojos de todo el pueblo (porque estaba más alto que todo el pueblo); y cuando lo abrió, todo el pueblo se puso de pie.

6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

6 Bendijo entonces Esdras a Jehová, el gran Dios. Y todo el pueblo, alzando las manos, respondió: ¡Amén! ¡Amén! Y se humillaron y adoraron a Jehová rostro en tierra.

7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

7 Y Jesúa, y Bani, y Serebías, Jamín, Acub, Sabetai, Hodías, Maasías, Kelita, Azarías, Jozabed, Hanán, Pelaías y los levitas hacían entender la ley al pueblo; y el pueblo permanecía en su lugar.

8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

8 Y leían claramente en el libro de la ley de Dios y explicaban el sentido, de modo que entendiesen la lectura.

9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

9 Y Nehemías, el gobernador, y el sacerdote Esdras, el escriba, y los levitas que enseñaban al pueblo dijeron a todo el pueblo: Este es un día santo a Jehová vuestro Dios; no os entristezcáis, ni lloréis, porque todo el pueblo lloraba al oír las palabras de la ley.

10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

10 Entonces les dijo: Id, comed manjares, y tomad bebidas dulces y enviad porciones a los que no tienen nada preparado, porque hoy es un día santo a nuestro Señor; y no os entristezcáis, porque el gozo de Jehová es vuestra fortaleza.

11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.

11 Los levitas, pues, calmaban a todo el pueblo, diciendo: Callad, porque el día es santo, y no os entristezcáis.

12 And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

12 Y todo el pueblo se fue a comer y a beber, y a enviar porciones y a gozar de gran alegría, porque habían entendido las palabras que les habían enseñado.

13 And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.

13 Y al día siguiente se reunieron los jefes de las casas paternas de todo el pueblo, los sacerdotes y los levitas, con el escriba Esdras para entender las palabras de la ley.

14 And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

14 Y hallaron escrito en la ley que Jehová había mandado, por medio de Moisés, que habitasen los hijos de Israel en enramadas en la fiesta solemne del mes séptimo;

15 And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.

15 y que hiciesen saber, y proclamasen por todas sus ciudades y por Jerusalén, diciendo: Salid al monte y traed ramas de olivo, y ramas de olivo silvestre, y ramas de arrayán, y ramas de palmeras y ramas de todo árbol frondoso, para hacer enramadas como está escrito.

16 So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.

16 Salió, pues, el pueblo, y las trajeron e hicieron enramadas, cada uno sobre su terrado, y en sus patios, y en los patios de la casa de Dios, y en la plaza de la puerta de las Aguas y en la plaza de la puerta de Efraín.

17 And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

17 Y toda la congregación que volvió de la cautividad hizo enramadas y en enramadas habitó, porque desde los días de Josué hijo de Nun hasta aquel día, no habían hecho así los hijos de Israel. Y hubo alegría muy grande.

18 Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.

18 Y leyó Esdras en el libro de la ley de Dios cada día, desde el primer día hasta el último; e hicieron la fiesta solemne durante siete días, y al octavo día hubo una asamblea solemne, conforme al decreto.
