1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

1 Y los de Efraín le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas a la guerra contra Madián? Y le reprendieron fuertemente.

2 And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi-ezer?

2 A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora comparado con vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de uvas de Efraín mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

3 God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

3 Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos a Oreb y a Zeeb, príncipes de Madián, ¿y qué pude yo hacer comparado con vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, después que él les habló esta palabra.

4 And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

4 Y llegó Gedeón al Jordán, y lo pasaron él y los trescientos hombres que estaban con él, cansados, más todavía persiguiendo.

5 And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

5 Y dijo a los de Sucot: Yo os ruego que deis a la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan, porque están cansados, y yo persigo a Zeba y a Zalmuna, reyes de Madián.

6 And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

6 Y los príncipes de Sucot respondieron: ¿Están ya las manos de Zeba y de Zalmuna en tus manos, para que hayamos nosotros de dar pan a tu ejército?

7 And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

7 Y Gedeón dijo: Pues bien, cuando Jehová haya entregado en mis manos a Zeba y a Zalmuna, yo desgarraré vuestra carne con espinos y abrojos del desierto.

8 And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

8 Y de allí subió a Peniel y les dijo las mismas palabras. Y los de Peniel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Sucot.

9 And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

9 Y él habló también a los de Peniel, diciendo: Cuando yo vuelva en paz, derribaré esta torre.

10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

10 Y Zeba y Zalmuna estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército de unos quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el campamento de los hijos del oriente, pues habían caído ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

11 And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

11 Y subió Gedeón por el camino de los que habitaban en tiendas, al oriente de Noba y de Jogbeha, y atacó el campamento, porque este estaba confiado.

12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

12 Y huyendo Zeba y Zalmuna, él los persiguió; y capturó a los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmuna, y aterrorizó a todo el campamento.

13 And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,

13 Y Gedeón hijo de Joás volvió de la batalla antes que el sol subiese,

14 And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

14 y capturó a un joven de los hombres de Sucot, y lo interrogó; y él le dio por escrito los nombres de los príncipes de Sucot y de sus ancianos, setenta y siete hombres.

15 And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

15 Y fue a los hombres de Sucot y les dijo: He aquí a Zeba y a Zalmuna, acerca de los cuales os burlasteis de mí, diciendo: ¿Están ya las manos de Zeba y de Zalmuna en tus manos, para que demos nosotros pan a tus hombres cansados?

16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

16 Y tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinos y abrojos del desierto, y castigó con ellos a los de Sucot.

17 And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

17 Asimismo derribó la torre de Peniel y mató a los de la ciudad.

18 Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

18 Luego dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuna: ¿Cómo eran los hombres que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, así eran ellos; cada uno parecía hijo de rey.

19 And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

19 Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre: ¡Vive Jehová, que si les hubierais conservado la vida, yo no os mataría!

20 And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

20 Y dijo a Jeter su primogénito: Levántate y mátalos. Pero el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor, pues aún era un muchacho.

21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

21 Entonces dijeron Zeba y Zalmuna: Levántate y mátanos tú, porque como es el hombre, así es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuna, y tomó los adornos de lunetas que sus camellos traían al cuello.

22 Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

22 Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo y tu nieto, porque nos has librado de manos de Madián.

23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

23 Y Gedeón respondió: Yo no os gobernaré a vosotros, ni tampoco os gobernará mi hijo. Jehová os gobernará.

24 And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

24 Y les dijo Gedeón: Deseo haceros una petición: que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su botín (pues, traían zarcillos de oro, porque eran ismaelitas).

25 And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

25 Y ellos respondieron: De buena gana los daremos. Y tendieron un manto, y cada uno de ellos echó allí los zarcillos de su botín.

26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.

26 Y fue el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil setecientos siclos de oro, sin contar las planchas, ni los joyeles ni los vestidos de púrpura que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin contar los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

27 And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

27 Y Gedeón hizo con eso un efod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ofra; y todo Israel se prostituyó tras ese efod en aquel lugar, y fue tropiezo para Gedeón y para su casa.

28 Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

28 Así fue sometido Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más volvió a levantar su cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

29 And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

29 Y Jerobaal hijo de Joás se fue y habitó en su casa.

30 And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

30 Y tuvo Gedeón setenta hijos que salieron de sus lomos, porque tuvo muchas esposas.

31 And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

31 Y su concubina que estaba en Siquem también le dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Abimelec.

32 And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.

32 Y murió Gedeón hijo de Joás en buena vejez, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre Joás, en Ofra de los abiezeritas.

33 And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.

33 Y aconteció que cuando murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel volvieron a prostituirse en pos de los baales, e hicieron a Baal-berit su dios.

34 And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

34 Y no se acordaron los hijos de Israel de Jehová su Dios, que los había librado de todos sus enemigos de alrededor,

35 Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.

35 ni mostraron bondad a la casa de Jerobaal, es decir, Gedeón, conforme a todo el bien que él había hecho a Israel.
