1 And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.

1 En aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un levita que moraba como forastero en la parte más remota de los montes de Efraín, el cual había tomado para sí como concubina a una mujer de Belén de Judá.

2 And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Beth-lehem-judah, and was there four whole months.

2 Y su concubina cometió adulterio contra él y se fue de él a casa de su padre, a Belén de Judá, y estuvo allá durante cuatro meses.

3 And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

3 Y se levantó su marido y la siguió para hablarle amorosamente y hacerla volver, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le hizo entrar en la casa de su padre. Y viéndole el padre de la joven, le salió a recibir gozoso.

4 And his father in law, the damsel's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

4 Y le retuvo su suegro, padre de la joven, y se quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo y alojándose allí.

5 And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

5 Y aconteció que al cuarto día, cuando se levantaron de mañana, se levantó también el levita para irse, y el padre de la joven le dijo a su yerno: Conforta tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis.

6 And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

6 Y se sentaron ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la joven le dijo al hombre: Yo te ruego que te quedes aquí esta noche, y se alegrará tu corazón.

7 And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

7 Y se levantó el hombre para irse, pero el suegro le insistió, y volvió a pasar allí la noche.

8 And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel's father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

8 Y al quinto día, levantándose muy de mañana para irse, le dijo el padre de la joven: Conforta ahora tu corazón y aguarda hasta que decline el día; y comieron los dos juntos.

9 And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

9 Y se levantó luego el hombre para irse, él, y su concubina y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la joven, le dijo: He aquí, el día declina y va a anochecer; te ruego que paséis aquí la noche. He aquí que el día se acaba; pasa aquí la noche para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano para emprender vuestro camino, y te irás a tus tiendas.

10 But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

10 Mas el hombre no quiso pasar allí la noche, sino que se levantó, y partió y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebús, que es Jerusalén, con su par de asnos ensillados y con su concubina.

11 And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

11 Y estando ya junto a Jebús, el día había declinado mucho; y dijo el criado a su señor: Ven ahora, y vámonos a esta ciudad de los jebuseos, para que pasemos en ella la noche.

12 And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

12 Y su señor le respondió: No iremos a ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel, sino que pasaremos hasta Gabaa.

13 And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

13 Y dijo a su criado: Ven, lleguemos a uno de esos lugares, para pasar la noche en Gabaa o en Ramá.

14 And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

14 Pasaron, pues, de largo y siguieron su camino, y se les puso el sol junto a Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

15 And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

15 Y se apartaron del camino para entrar a pasar allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, se sentaron en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los acogiese en su casa para pasar la noche.

16 And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

16 Y he aquí, un hombre viejo que al atardecer venía de trabajar en el campo, el cual era de los montes de Efraín, y moraba como forastero en Gabaa, pues los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Benjamín.

17 And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

17 Y alzando el anciano los ojos, vio a aquel viajero en la plaza de la ciudad y le dijo: ¿A dónde vas y de dónde vienes?

18 And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

18 Y él respondió: Pasamos de Belén de Judá a la parte más remota de los montes de Efraín, de donde soy; y fui hasta Belén de Judá; y ahora voy a la casa de Jehová, y no hay quien me reciba en su casa.

19 Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

19 Nosotros tenemos paja y forraje para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; de nada tenemos falta.

20 And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

20 Y el anciano dijo: La paz sea contigo; todo lo que te falte quede solamente a mi cargo, con tal que no pases la noche en la plaza.

21 So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

21 Y los llevó a su casa y dio de comer a sus asnos; y ellos se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.

22 Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

22 Y cuando estaban gozosos, he aquí que los hombres de aquella ciudad, hombres perversos, rodearon la casa y golpearon a la puerta, diciendo al anciano dueño de la casa: Saca fuera al hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que lo conozcamos.

23 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

23 Y salió a ellos aquel hombre, el dueño de la casa, y les dijo: No, hermanos míos, os ruego que no cometáis este mal; puesto que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta maldad.

24 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

24 He aquí mi hija virgen y la concubina de él; yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas y haced con ellas como os parezca, pero no hagáis a este hombre cosa tan infame.

25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

25 Mas aquellos hombres no le quisieron oír; por lo que, tomando aquel hombre a su concubina, la sacó fuera de la casa. Y ellos la conocieron y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y la dejaron cuando apuntaba el alba.

26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

26 Y cuando ya amanecía, la mujer vino y cayó delante de la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde su señor estaba, hasta que fue de día.

27 And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

27 Y levantándose de mañana su señor, abrió las puertas de la casa y salió para seguir su camino, y he aquí que su concubina estaba tendida delante de la puerta de la casa, con las manos sobre el umbral.

28 And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

28 Y él le dijo: Levántate, y vámonos. Mas ella no respondió. Entonces la levantó aquel hombre y, echándola sobre su asno, se levantó y se fue a su lugar.

29 And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

29 Y al llegar a su casa, tomó un cuchillo, y echó mano de su concubina, y la despedazó por sus huesos en doce partes y las envió por todo el territorio de Israel.

30 And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

30 Y todo el que veía aquello, decía: Jamás se ha hecho ni visto tal cosa, desde el tiempo en que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, tomad consejo y hablad.
