1 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:

1 Y Jehová dijo a Josué: No temas, ni desmayes; toma contigo a toda la gente de guerra, y levántate y sube a Hai. Mira, yo he entregado en tus manos al rey de Hai, y a su pueblo, su ciudad, y su tierra.

2 And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.

2 Y harás a Hai y a su rey como hiciste a Jericó y a su rey; solo que sus despojos y sus bestias tomaréis para vosotros. Pondrás, pues, una emboscada detrás de la ciudad para los de ella.

3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.

3 Y se levantó Josué, y toda la gente de guerra, para subir contra Hai; y escogió Josué treinta mil hombres fuertes, los cuales envió de noche.

4 And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:

4 Y les mandó, diciendo: Mirad, pondréis una emboscada detrás de la ciudad; no os alejaréis mucho de la ciudad y estaréis todos preparados.

5 And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,

5 Y yo, y todo el pueblo que está conmigo, nos acercaremos a la ciudad; y cuando salgan ellos contra nosotros, como lo hicieron antes, huiremos delante de ellos.

6 (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.

6 Y ellos saldrán tras nosotros, hasta que los alejemos de la ciudad, porque ellos dirán: Huyen de nosotros como la primera vez. Huiremos, pues, delante de ellos.

7 Then ye shall rise up from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.

7 Entonces vosotros os levantaréis de la emboscada, y os apoderaréis de la ciudad, pues Jehová vuestro Dios os la entregará en vuestras manos.

8 And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.

8 Y cuando la hayáis tomado, le prenderéis fuego. Haréis conforme a la palabra de Jehová. Mirad que os lo he mandado.

9 Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.

9 Entonces Josué los envió; y ellos se fueron a la emboscada, y se pusieron entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de Hai. Y Josué se quedó aquella noche en medio del pueblo.

10 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.

10 Y levantándose Josué muy de mañana, pasó revista al pueblo, y subió él, con los ancianos de Israel, delante del pueblo contra Hai.

11 And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.

11 Y toda la gente de guerra que con él estaba, subió, y se acercó, y llegaron delante de la ciudad, y acamparon al norte de Hai; y el valle estaba entre él y Hai.

12 And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of the city.

12 Y tomó como cinco mil hombres, y los puso en emboscada entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de la ciudad.

13 And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.

13 Y cuando colocaron al pueblo con todo el campamento que estaba al norte de la ciudad, y la emboscada al occidente de la ciudad, fue Josué aquella noche hasta el medio del valle.

14 And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he wist not that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.

14 Y aconteció que cuando el rey de Hai vio esto, se levantó prontamente de mañana, y salió con la gente de la ciudad contra Israel, él y todo su pueblo, para combatir frente al llano al tiempo señalado, no sabiendo que estaba puesta una emboscada a espaldas de la ciudad.

15 And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

15 Entonces Josué y todo Israel, fingiéndose vencidos, huyeron delante de ellos por el camino del desierto.

16 And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.

16 Y todo el pueblo que estaba en Hai se juntó para perseguirlos, y persiguieron a Josué, siendo así alejados de la ciudad.

17 And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.

17 Y no quedó hombre en Hai ni en Bet-el que no saliera tras Israel; y por seguir a Israel, dejaron la ciudad abierta.

18 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.

18 Entonces Jehová dijo a Josué: Levanta la lanza que tienes en tu mano hacia Hai, porque yo la entregaré en tus manos. Y Josué levantó hacia la ciudad la lanza que tenía en su mano.

19 And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand: and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.

19 Y levantándose rápidamente de su lugar los que estaban en la emboscada, corrieron apenas él alzó su mano, y vinieron a la ciudad, y la tomaron, y se apresuraron a prenderle fuego.

20 And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.

20 Y cuando los de la ciudad de Hai miraron atrás, observaron, y he aquí, el humo de la ciudad que subía al cielo, y no pudieron huir ni a una parte ni a otra; y el pueblo que iba huyendo hacia el desierto se volvió contra los que los perseguían.

21 And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.

21 Josué y todo Israel, viendo que los de la emboscada habían tomado la ciudad, y que el humo de la ciudad subía, se volvieron, e hirieron a los de Hai.

22 And the other issued out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.

22 Y los otros salieron de la ciudad a su encuentro, y así quedaron atrapados en medio de Israel, los unos por un lado, y los otros por el otro. Y los hirieron hasta que no quedó ninguno de ellos que escapase.

23 And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.

23 Y tomaron vivo al rey de Hai, y lo llevaron ante Josué.

24 And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.

24 Y cuando los israelitas acabaron de matar a todos los moradores de Hai en el campo, en el desierto, a donde ellos los habían perseguido, y que todos habían caído a filo de espada hasta ser consumidos, todos los israelitas regresaron a Hai, y también la hirieron a filo de espada.

25 And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

25 Y el número de los que cayeron aquel día, hombres y mujeres, fue de doce mil, todos los de Hai.

26 For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

26 Y Josué no retrajo su mano que había extendido con la lanza, hasta que hubo destruido a todos los moradores de Hai.

27 Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.

27 Y los israelitas tomaron para sí las bestias y los despojos de la ciudad, conforme a la palabra que Jehová había mandado a Josué.

28 And Joshua burnt Ai, and made it an heap for ever, even a desolation unto this day.

28 Y Josué quemó Hai y la redujo a un montón perpetuo de ruinas, asolada hasta hoy.

29 And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.

29 Y al rey de Hai lo colgó de un madero hasta caer la tarde; y cuando el sol se puso, mandó Josué que quitasen su cuerpo del madero y lo echasen a la puerta de la ciudad; y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, que permanece hasta hoy.

30 Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,

30 Entonces Josué edificó un altar a Jehová Dios de Israel en el monte Ebal,

31 As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.

31 como Moisés, siervo de Jehová, lo había mandado a los hijos de Israel, como está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés: un altar de piedras enteras sobre las cuales nadie alzó hierro; y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos a Jehová, y sacrificaron ofrendas de paz.

32 And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.

32 También escribió allí sobre las piedras una copia de la ley de Moisés, la cual él había escrito delante de los hijos de Israel.

33 And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.

33 Y todo Israel, con sus ancianos, y sus oficiales, y sus jueces, estaban de pie a uno y otro lado del arca, delante de los sacerdotes levitas que llevaban el arca del convenio de Jehová, tanto extranjeros como naturales; la mitad de ellos estaba hacia el monte Gerizim, y la otra mitad hacia el monte Ebal, tal como Moisés, siervo de Jehová, lo había mandado antes, para que bendijesen al pueblo de Israel.

34 And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

34 Después de esto, leyó todas las palabras de la ley, las bendiciones y las maldiciones, conforme a todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley.

35 There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.

35 No hubo palabra alguna de todas las cosas que mandó Moisés que Josué no hiciese leer delante de toda la congregación de Israel, y de las mujeres, y de los niños, y de los extranjeros que moraban entre ellos.
