1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

1 Entonces respondió Jehová a Job desde un torbellino y dijo:

2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

2 ¿Quién es ese que oscurece el consejo con palabras sin conocimiento?

3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

3 Ahora ciñe como hombre tus lomos; yo te preguntaré, y tú me lo harás saber.

4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

4 ¿Dónde estabas tú cuando yo fundaba la tierra? Házme lo saber, si tienes entendimiento.

5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

5 ¿Quién dispuso sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿O quién extendió sobre ella cordel?

6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

6 ¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus bases? ¿O quién puso su piedra angular,

7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

7 cuando alababan todas las estrellas del alba, y se regocijaban todos los hijos de Dios?

8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

8 ¿Quién encerró con puertas el mar cuando, irrumpiendo, salió del vientre,

9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

9 cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya y su faja como oscuridad,

10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

10 y establecí para él mis límites y le puse puertas y cerrojo,

11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

11 y dije: Hasta aquí llegarás, pero no más allá; y aquí se detendrán tus orgullosas olas?

12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

12 ¿Has mandado tú a la mañana en tus días? ¿Has mostrado al alba su lugar,

13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

13 para que ocupe los confines de la tierra, y sean sacudidos de ella los malvados?

14 It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

14 Ella cambia como barro bajo el sello, y viene a estar como con vestidura;

15 And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

15 mas la luz es quitada de los malvados, y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.

16 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

16 ¿Has entrado tú hasta las fuentes del mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?

17 Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

17 ¿Te han sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte, y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?

18 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

18 ¿Has considerado tú la extensión de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.

19 Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

19 ¿Por dónde va el camino a la morada de la luz, y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas,

20 That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

20 para que las lleves a sus límites, y entiendas las sendas de su casa?

21 Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

21 ¿Lo sabías tú porque ya habías nacido, o porque es grande el número de tus días?

22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

22 ¿Has entrado tú en los depósitos de la nieve, o has visto los depósitos del granizo,

23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

23 que tengo yo reservados para el tiempo de angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?

24 By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

24 ¿Por qué camino se difunde la luz y se esparce el viento solano sobre la tierra?

25 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

25 ¿Quién abrió cauce al turbión y camino a los relámpagos y a los truenos,

26 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

26 haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre,

27 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

27 para saciar la tierra desierta y desolada, y para hacer brotar la tierna hierba?

28 Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

28 ¿Tiene padre la lluvia? ¿O quién engendró las gotas del rocío?

29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

29 ¿De qué vientre salió el hielo? Y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la engendró?

30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

30 Las aguas se endurecen a manera de piedra, y se congela la faz del abismo.

31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

31 ¿Podrás tú atar los lazos de las Pléyades o desatarás las ligaduras del Orión?

32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

32 ¿Harás salir tú a su tiempo las constelaciones de los cielos? ¿Guiarás a la Osa mayor con sus hijos?

33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

33 ¿Conoces tú las leyes de los cielos? ¿Dispondrás tú de su dominio en la tierra?

34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

34 ¿Alzarás tú a las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra abundancia de agua?

35 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

35 ¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan y te digan: Henos aquí?

36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

36 ¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el interior del ser? ¿O quién dio entendimiento al espíritu?

37 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

37 ¿Quién cuenta las nubes con sabiduría? Y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace verter,

38 When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

38 cuando el polvo se ha convertido en dureza, y los terrones se han pegado unos con otros?

39 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

39 ¿Cazarás tú la presa para el león? ¿Y saciarás el hambre de los leoncillos,

40 When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

40 cuando están echados en las cuevas, o están al acecho en la espesura?

41 Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

41 ¿Quién prepara al cuervo su alimento cuando sus polluelos claman a Dios y andan errantes por falta de comida?
