1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

1 Y respondió Zofar, el naamatita, y dijo:

2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

2 ¿No han de tener respuesta las muchas palabras? ¿Y el hombre que habla mucho será justificado?

3 Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

3 ¿Harán tus falacias callar a los hombres? ¿Y harás escarnio, y no habrá quien te avergüence?

4 For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

4 Tú dices: Mi doctrina es pura, y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.

5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

5 Mas, ¡oh, quién diera que Dios hablara, y abriera sus labios para contigo

6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

6 y te declarara los secretos de la sabiduría, que son el doble de la sana sabiduría! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos de lo que tu iniquidad merece.

7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

7 ¿Hallarás tú a Dios con solo buscarle? ¿Hallarás tú la perfección del Todopoderoso?

8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

8 Es más alto que los cielos; ¿qué harás? Es más profundo que el Seol; ¿cómo lo conocerás?

9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

9 Su dimensión es más extensa que la tierra y más ancha que el mar.

10 If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

10 Si él pasa y encierra, y si convoca una asamblea, ¿quién podrá contrarrestarle?

11 For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

11 Porque él conoce a los hombres vanos; ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?

12 For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

12 El hombre vano se hará sabio cuando nazca el pollino del asno montés como hombre.

13 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

13 Si tú dispones tu corazón y extiendes a él tus manos,

14 If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

14 si alguna iniquidad hay en tus manos, y la apartas de ti y no consientes que la maldad more en tus habitaciones,

15 For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be steadfast, and shalt not fear:

15 entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha y estarás firme y no temerás;

16 Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

16 y olvidarás tu padecimiento, o te acordarás de él como de aguas que pasaron.

17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

17 Y tu vida será más clara que el mediodía; aunque oscurezca, será como la mañana.

18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

18 Y confiarás, porque habrá esperanza; mirarás alrededor y dormirás seguro.

19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

19 Y te acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante; y muchos te rogarán.

20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

20 Pero los ojos de los malos se consumirán; y no tendrán refugio, y su esperanza será dar su último suspiro.
