1 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;

1 Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que yo levanto un viento destructor contra Babilonia y contra sus moradores que se levantan contra mí.

2 And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

2 Y enviaré a Babilonia aventadores que la avienten, y vaciarán su tierra; porque estarán contra ella por todas partes en el día del mal.

3 Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

3 Diré al flechero que tensa su arco y al que se levanta con su coraza: No perdonéis a sus jóvenes; destruid totalmente su ejército.

4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.

4 Y caerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos y alanceados en sus calles.

5 For Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

5 Porque Israel y Judá no han sido abandonados por su Dios, Jehová de los ejércitos, aunque su tierra estaba llena de pecado contra el Santo de Israel.

6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.

6 Huid de en medio de Babilonia, y salve cada uno su vida, para que no perezcáis a causa de su maldad; porque el tiempo es de la venganza de Jehová; le dará su pago.

7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

7 Copa de oro fue Babilonia en la mano de Jehová, que embriagó a toda la tierra; de su vino bebieron las naciones; se enloquecieron, por tanto, las naciones.

8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

8 De repente cayó Babilonia y se despedazó; aullad sobre ella; llevad bálsamo para su dolor; quizá sane.

9 We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

9 Quisimos curar a Babilonia, pero no ha sanado; dejadla, y váyase cada uno a su tierra, porque ha llegado hasta el cielo su juicio y se ha alzado hasta las nubes.

10 The LORD hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.

10 Jehová sacó a luz nuestras justicias; venid y contemos en Sion la obra de Jehová nuestro Dios.

11 Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: the LORD hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple.

11 ¡Limpiad las saetas! ¡Embrazad los escudos! Ha despertado Jehová el espíritu de los reyes de Media, porque contra Babilonia es su designio para destruirla; porque la venganza es de Jehová, la venganza de su templo.

12 Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

12 Levantad bandera sobre los muros de Babilonia; reforzad la guardia, poned centinelas, disponed las emboscadas, porque Jehová ha deliberado y ha puesto en efecto lo que ha dicho sobre los moradores de Babilonia.

13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.

13 Tú que moras entre muchas aguas, rica en tesoros, ha llegado tu fin, la medida de tu codicia.

14 The LORD of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

14 Jehová de los ejércitos juró por sí mismo, diciendo: Yo te llenaré de hombres como de langostas, y levantarán contra ti gritería.

15 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.

15 Él es el que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que afirmó el mundo con su sabiduría y extendió los cielos con su inteligencia.

16 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

16 Cuando emite su voz, hay multitud de aguas en el cielo, y hace subir las nubes desde los confines de la tierra; él hace relámpagos con la lluvia y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

17 Every man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

17 Todo hombre se ha embrutecido y le ha faltado conocimiento; y todo artífice se avergüenza de su escultura, porque mentira es su imagen de fundición, porque no hay espíritu en ella.

18 They are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

18 Vanidad son, obra digna de burla; en el tiempo de su castigo perecerán.

19 The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of hosts is his name.

19 No es como ellos la porción de Jacob, porque él es el Hacedor de todo; e Israel es la vara de su heredad; Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre.

20 Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

20 Martillo sois para mí, y armas de guerra; y por medio de ti destrozaré naciones, y por medio de ti destruiré reinos,

21 And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;

21 y por medio de ti destrozaré caballos y a sus jinetes, y por medio de ti destrozaré carros y a los que suben en ellos.

22 With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;

22 Asimismo por medio de ti destrozaré hombres y mujeres, y por medio de ti destrozaré viejos y jóvenes, y por medio de ti destrozaré jóvenes y doncellas.

23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

23 También destrozaré por medio de ti al pastor y a su rebaño; destrozaré por medio de ti a labradores y sus yuntas; y a gobernantes y a jefes destrozaré por medio de ti.

24 And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the LORD.

24 Y pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los moradores de Caldea todo el mal que ellos hicieron en Sion delante de vuestros ojos, dice Jehová.

25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

25 He aquí, yo estoy contra ti, oh monte destructor, dice Jehová, porque destruiste toda la tierra; y extenderé mi mano contra ti, y te haré rodar desde las peñas y te convertiré en monte quemado.

26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD.

26 Y nadie tomará de ti piedra angular ni piedra para cimiento, porque perpetua desolación serás, ha dicho Jehová.

27 Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.

27 Alzad bandera en la tierra; tocad trompeta en las naciones; preparad naciones contra ella; juntad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, de Mini y de Askenaz; señalad contra ella capitán; haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas.

28 Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.

28 Preparad contra ella a las naciones, a los reyes de Media, a sus gobernantes, y a todos sus jefes y a toda la tierra de su dominio.

29 And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

29 Y temblará la tierra y se afligirá, porque se cumplirán contra Babilonia todos los designios de Jehová, para hacer de la tierra de Babilonia una desolación, sin ningún morador.

30 The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.

30 Los valientes de Babilonia dejaron de pelear; se quedaron en sus fortalezas; les faltaron las fuerzas; se volvieron como mujeres; han sido incendiadas sus casas, rotos sus cerrojos.

31 One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

31 Correo se encontrará con correo, y mensajero se encontrará con mensajero, para anunciar al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad ha sido tomada por todas partes.

32 And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

32 Y los vados han sido tomados, y los cañaverales quemados con fuego, y están aterrados los hombres de guerra.

33 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

33 Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: La hija de Babilonia es como una era en trilla; y de aquí a poco le llegará el tiempo de la siega.

34 Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

34 Me devoró, me desmenuzó Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia; me dejó como un vaso vacío; me tragó como un chacal; llenó su vientre con mis delicias y me expulsó.

35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

35 ¡Caiga sobre Babilonia la violencia hecha contra mí y mi carne!, dirá la moradora de Sion; y, ¡caiga mi sangre sobre los moradores de Caldea, dirá Jerusalén!

36 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

36 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que yo abogaré por tu causa y llevaré a cabo tu venganza; y secaré su mar y haré secar su manantial.

37 And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.

37 Y será Babilonia montones de ruinas, guarida de chacales, objeto de espanto y de burla, sin morador.

38 They shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions' whelps.

38 A una rugirán como leones; como cachorros de león gruñirán.

39 In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD.

39 En medio de su calor les prepararé sus banquetes; y haré que se embriaguen, para que se alegren, y duerman un sueño eterno y no despierten, dice Jehová.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

40 Los haré descender como corderos al matadero, como carneros con machos cabríos.

41 How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

41 ¡Cómo ha sido tomada Babilonia y capturada la que era alabada por toda la tierra! ¡Cómo ha venido a ser Babilonia objeto de espanto entre las naciones!

42 The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

42 Ha subido el mar sobre Babilonia; por la multitud de sus olas ha sido cubierta.

43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

43 Sus ciudades han quedado desoladas, la tierra seca y desierta, tierra en la que no morará nadie, ni pasará por ella hijo de hombre.

44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

44 Y castigaré a Bel en Babilonia y sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado; y no afluirán más a él las naciones, y el muro de Babilonia caerá.

45 My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.

45 Salid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salve cada uno su vida del ardor de la ira de Jehová.

46 And lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

46 Y no desmaye vuestro corazón, y no temáis a causa del rumor que se oirá en la tierra; en un año vendrá el rumor, y después en otro año, otro rumor, y violencia en la tierra y gobernante contra gobernante.

47 Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

47 Por tanto, he aquí, vienen días en que yo castigaré los ídolos de Babilonia; y toda su tierra será avergonzada, y todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

48 Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD.

48 Entonces los cielos y la tierra, y todo lo que está en ellos, cantarán de gozo por lo de Babilonia, porque del norte vendrán sobre ella destructores, dice Jehová.

49 As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.

49 Babilonia caerá por los muertos de Israel, así como también por Babilonia han caído los muertos de toda la tierra.

50 Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

50 Los que escapasteis de la espada, andad, no os detengáis; acordaos desde lejos de Jehová, y esté Jerusalén en vuestro corazón.

51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD's house.

51 Estamos avergonzados porque oímos la afrenta; la vergüenza cubrió nuestros rostros, porque han entrado extranjeros en los santuarios de la casa de Jehová.

52 Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

52 Por tanto, he aquí, vienen días, dice Jehová, en que yo castigaré sus ídolos, y en toda su tierra gemirán los heridos.

53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.

53 Aunque Babilonia suba al cielo y se fortifique en las alturas su poder, de mi parte llegarán a ella destructores, dice Jehová.

54 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:

54 ¡Clamor de alarido de Babilonia y gran quebranto de la tierra de los caldeos!

55 Because the LORD hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:

55 Porque Jehová ha destruido a Babilonia y ha quitado de ella el gran bullicio; y braman sus olas como muchas aguas; resuena el estruendo de sus voces,

56 Because the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.

56 porque ha venido destructor contra ella, contra Babilonia, y sus valientes son apresados; sus arcos están quebrados, porque Jehová, Dios de retribuciones, ciertamente dará la paga.

57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

57 Y embriagaré a sus jefes, y a sus sabios, a sus dirigentes, y a sus gobernantes y a sus valientes; y dormirán el sueño eterno y no despertarán, dice el Rey, cuyo nombre es Jehová de los ejércitos.

58 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.

58 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: El muro ancho de Babilonia será derribado por completo, y sus altas puertas serán quemadas con fuego; y en vano trabajarán los pueblos, y la gente solo para el fuego, y se cansarán.

59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.

59 La palabra que envió el profeta Jeremías a Seraías hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando iba con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia, en el cuarto año de su reinado. Y era Seraías el principal camarero.

60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

60 Escribió, pues, Jeremías en un libro todo el mal que había de venir sobre Babilonia, todas las palabras que están escritas contra Babilonia.

61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;

61 Y dijo Jeremías a Seraías: Cuando llegues a Babilonia, y veas y leas todas estas cosas,

62 Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

62 dirás: Oh Jehová, tú has dicho contra este lugar que lo habías de destruir, hasta no quedar en él morador, ni hombre ni animal, y que para siempre ha de ser desolado.

63 And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:

63 Y acontecerá que cuando acabes de leer este libro, le atarás una piedra y lo echarás en medio del Éufrates,

64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

64 y dirás: Así se hundirá Babilonia y no se levantará del mal que yo traigo sobre ella; y quedarán rendidos. Hasta aquí son las palabras de Jeremías.
