1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

1 Y se acercaron todos los jefes de la gente de guerra, y Johanán hijo de Carea, y Jezanías hijo de Osaías y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

2 y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: Llegue ahora nuestra súplica delante de ti, y ruega por nosotros a Jehová, tu Dios, por todo este resto (pues de muchos hemos quedado unos pocos, como nos ven tus ojos),

3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

3 para que Jehová tu Dios nos enseñe el camino por donde debemos ir y lo que hemos de hacer.

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

4 Y el profeta Jeremías les dijo: Ya os he oído. He aquí que voy a orar a Jehová vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho; y acontecerá que todo lo que Jehová os responda os lo declararé; no os reservaré palabra alguna.

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

5 Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: Jehová sea entre nosotros un testigo verdadero y fiel, si no hacemos conforme a todo aquello para lo cual Jehová tu Dios te envíe a nosotros.

6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

6 Sea bueno o sea malo, a la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, obedeceremos, para que, obedeciendo a la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, nos vaya bien.

7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

7 Y aconteció que al cabo de diez días vino la palabra de Jehová a Jeremías.

8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

8 Y llamó a Johanán hijo de Carea, y a todos los jefes de la gente de guerra que con él estaban y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

9 y les dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel, a quien me enviasteis para presentar vuestros ruegos ante él:

10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

10 Si permanecéis en esta tierra, os edificaré y no os destruiré; os plantaré y no os arrancaré, porque arrepentido estoy del mal que os he hecho.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

11 No temáis al rey de Babilonia, del cual tenéis temor; no le temáis, ha dicho Jehová, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano;

12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

12 y tendré misericordia de vosotros, para que él tenga misericordia de vosotros y os haga volver a vuestra tierra.

13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

13 Pero si decís: No moraremos en esta tierra ni obedeceremos la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios,

14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

14 diciendo: No, sino que entraremos en la tierra de Egipto, en la cual no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta ni tendremos hambre de pan, y allá moraremos;

15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

15 y, ahora bien, por eso, oíd la palabra de Jehová, remanente de Judá: Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Si vosotros enteramente fijáis vuestros rostros para entrar en Egipto y entráis para peregrinar allá,

16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

16 entonces acontecerá que la espada que teméis os alcanzará allá en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre de que tenéis temor allá en Egipto os perseguirá, y allí moriréis.

17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

17 Y sucederá que todos los hombres que fijen sus rostros para entrar en Egipto, para peregrinar allí, morirán por la espada, por el hambre y por la pestilencia; no habrá de ellos quien quede vivo ni quien escape del mal que traeré yo sobre ellos.

18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

18 Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi enojo y mi ira sobre los moradores de Jerusalén, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros cuando entréis en Egipto; y seréis objeto de execración y de espanto, y de maldición y de afrenta; y no veréis más este lugar.

19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

19 Jehová habló sobre vosotros, oh remanente de Judá: No entréis en Egipto. Sabed ciertamente que os lo advierto hoy.

20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

20 Pues habéis hecho errar vuestras almas, porque vosotros me enviasteis a Jehová vuestro Dios, diciendo: Ora por nosotros a Jehová nuestro Dios; y conforme a todas las cosas que Jehová nuestro Dios diga, háznoslo saber y lo haremos.

21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

21 Y os lo he declarado hoy, pero no habéis obedecido la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios ni a ninguna de las cosas que él me envió a deciros.

22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.

22 Ahora, pues, sabed ciertamente que por la espada, y por el hambre y por la pestilencia moriréis en el lugar donde deseasteis entrar para peregrinar allí.
