1 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

1 Y reinó el rey Sedequías hijo de Josías en lugar de Conías hijo de Joacim, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había puesto como rey en la tierra de Judá.

2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

2 Pero no obedecieron, ni él, ni sus siervos ni el pueblo de la tierra las palabras de Jehová, las cuales dijo por medio del profeta Jeremías.

3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

3 Y envió el rey Sedequías a Jucal hijo de Selemías y al sacerdote Sofonías hijo de Maasías, para que dijesen al profeta Jeremías: Ruega ahora por nosotros a Jehová nuestro Dios.

4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

4 Y Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque no lo habían puesto en la casa de la cárcel.

5 Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

5 Entonces el ejército de Faraón salió de Egipto; y cuando llegó la noticia de ello a oídos de los caldeos que tenían sitiada a Jerusalén, se retiraron de Jerusalén.

6 Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

6 Entonces vino la palabra de Jehová al profeta Jeremías, diciendo:

7 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

7 Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel: Diréis así al rey de Judá que os envió a mí para que me consultaseis: He aquí que el ejército de Faraón, que había salido en vuestro socorro, se ha vuelto a su tierra, a Egipto.

8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

8 Y volverán los caldeos, y atacarán esta ciudad, y la tomarán y le prenderán fuego.

9 Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

9 Así ha dicho Jehová: No engañéis vuestras almas, diciendo: Sin duda, los caldeos se apartarán de nosotros, porque no se apartarán.

10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

10 Porque aun cuando derrotaseis a todo el ejército de los caldeos que pelean contra vosotros y solamente quedasen de ellos algunos hombres heridos, cada uno se levantaría de su tienda para prender fuego a esta ciudad.

11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

11 Y aconteció que cuando el ejército de los caldeos se retiró de Jerusalén a causa del ejército de Faraón,

12 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

12 Jeremías salía de Jerusalén para irse a la tierra de Benjamín, a fin de recibir allí su parte en medio del pueblo.

13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

13 Y cuando llegó a la puerta de Benjamín, había allí un capitán de la guardia que se llamaba Irías hijo de Selemías, hijo de Hananías, el cual apresó al profeta Jeremías, diciendo: Tú te vas a pasar a los caldeos.

14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

14 Y Jeremías dijo: Falso; no me voy a pasar a los caldeos. Pero él no le escuchó, sino que apresó Irías a Jeremías y lo llevó ante los príncipes.

15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

15 Y los príncipes se airaron contra Jeremías, y lo golpearon y le pusieron en prisión en la casa del escriba Jonatán, porque la habían convertido en cárcel.

16 When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

16 Entró, pues, Jeremías en la casa de la mazmorra y en las celdas. Y habiendo estado allá Jeremías muchos días,

17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

17 el rey Sedequías envió y lo sacó; y le preguntó el rey secretamente en su casa y dijo: ¿Hay palabra de Jehová? Y Jeremías dijo: Hay. Y dijo más: En manos del rey de Babilonia serás entregado.

18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

18 Dijo también Jeremías al rey Sedequías: ¿En qué pequé contra ti, o contra tus siervos o contra este pueblo, para que me pusieseis en la casa de la cárcel?

19 Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

19 ¿Y dónde están vuestros profetas que os profetizaban, diciendo: El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra vosotros ni contra esta tierra?

20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

20 Ahora pues, oye, te ruego, oh rey, mi señor, llegue ahora mi súplica delante de ti, y no me hagas volver a casa del escriba Jonatán, no sea que muera yo allí.

21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

21 Entonces dio orden el rey Sedequías, y custodiaron a Jeremías en el patio de la cárcel, haciéndole dar una torta de pan al día, de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que todo el pan de la ciudad se agotara. Y quedó Jeremías en el patio de la cárcel.
