1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

1 Y aconteció en el cuarto año de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, que vino esta palabra a Jeremías de parte de Jehová, diciendo:

2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

2 Toma un rollo en blanco y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado contra Israel, y contra Judá y contra todas las naciones, desde el día en que comencé a hablarte, desde los días de Josías hasta el día de hoy.

3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

3 Quizá oiga la casa de Judá todo el mal que yo pienso hacerles, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino, para que yo perdone su iniquidad y su pecado.

4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

4 Y llamó Jeremías a Baruc hijo de Nerías, y escribió Baruc de boca de Jeremías, en un rollo en blanco, todas las palabras que Jehová le había hablado.

5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

5 Después mandó Jeremías a Baruc, diciendo: Yo estoy preso y no puedo entrar en la casa de Jehová.

6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

6 Entra tú, pues, y lee de este rollo que escribiste dictado de mi boca, las palabras de Jehová a oídos del pueblo, en la casa de Jehová un día de ayuno; y las leerás también a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.

7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.

7 Quizá llegue la súplica de ellos a la presencia de Jehová, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino, porque grande es el furor y la ira que ha expresado Jehová contra este pueblo.

8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.

8 Y Baruc hijo de Nerías hizo conforme a todas las cosas que le mandó el profeta Jeremías, leyendo en el libro las palabras de Jehová en la casa de Jehová.

9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

9 Y aconteció en el año quinto de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, que promulgaron ayuno delante de Jehová a todo el pueblo de Jerusalén y a todo el pueblo que venía de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén.

10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people.

10 Y Baruc leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías en la casa de Jehová, en el aposento de Gemarías hijo de Safán, el escriba, en el atrio de arriba, a la entrada de la puerta nueva de la casa de Jehová, a oídos de todo el pueblo.

11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

11 Y Micaías hijo de Gemarías, hijo de Safán, habiendo oído del libro todas las palabras de Jehová,

12 Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

12 descendió a la casa del rey, al aposento del escriba, y he aquí que todos los príncipes estaban allí sentados: el escriba Elisama, y Delaía hijo de Semaías, y Elnatán hijo de Acbor, y Gemarías hijo de Safán, y Sedequías hijo de Ananías y todos los príncipes.

13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

13 Y les contó Micaías todas las palabras que había oído cuando Baruc leyó en el libro a oídos del pueblo.

14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

14 Entonces enviaron todos los príncipes a Jehudí hijo de Netanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Cusi, para que dijese a Baruc: Toma el rollo en el que leíste a oídos del pueblo, y ven. Y Baruc hijo de Nerías tomó el rollo en su mano y fue a ellos.

15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

15 Y le dijeron: Siéntate ahora y léelo a nuestros oídos. Y leyó Baruc a sus oídos.

16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

16 Y aconteció que cuando oyeron todas aquellas palabras, cada uno se volvió espantado a su compañero, y dijeron a Baruc: Sin duda le contaremos al rey todas estas palabras.

17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

17 Y preguntaron a Baruc, diciendo: Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste de boca de Jeremías todas estas palabras.

18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

18 Y Baruc les dijo: Él me dictaba de su boca todas estas palabras, y yo escribía con tinta en el libro.

19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.

19 Entonces dijeron los príncipes a Baruc: Ve, y escondeos, tú y Jeremías, y nadie sepa dónde estáis.

20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.

20 Y entraron adonde estaba el rey, al atrio, habiendo depositado el rollo en el aposento del escriba Elisama; y contaron a oídos del rey todas estas palabras.

21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

21 Y envió el rey a Jehudí a que tomase el rollo, y él lo tomó del aposento del escriba Elisama, y lo leyó Jehudí a oídos del rey y a oídos de todos los príncipes que estaban junto al rey.

22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

22 Y el rey estaba en la casa de invierno, en el mes noveno, y había un brasero encendido delante de él.

23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

23 Y sucedió que cuando Jehudí hubo leído tres o cuatro columnas, el rey cortó el rollo con un cuchillo de escriba y lo echó en el fuego que había en el brasero, hasta que todo el rollo se consumió en el fuego que había en el brasero.

24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

24 Y no tuvieron temor ni rasgaron sus vestidos, ni el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras.

25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

25 Y aunque Elnatán y Delaía y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemase aquel rollo, no los quiso oír,

26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.

26 sino que mandó el rey a Jerameel hijo de Hamelec, y a Seraías hijo de Azriel y a Selemías hijo de Abdeel que apresasen a Baruc, el escriba, y al profeta Jeremías; pero Jehová los escondió.

27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

27 Y vino la palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, después que el rey hubo quemado el rollo con las palabras que Baruc había escrito de boca de Jeremías, diciendo:

28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

28 Vuelve a tomar otro rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras primeras que estaban en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim, rey de Judá.

29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

29 Y dirás a Joacim, rey de Judá: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tú quemaste este rollo, diciendo: ¿Por qué escribiste en él, diciendo: De cierto vendrá el rey de Babilonia, y destruirá esta tierra y hará que no queden en ella ni hombres ni animales?

30 Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

30 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová acerca de Joacim, rey de Judá: No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David, y su cadáver será echado al calor del día y a la escarcha de la noche.

31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.

31 Y lo castigaré a él, y a su descendencia y a sus siervos por su iniquidad; y traeré sobre ellos, y sobre los moradores de Jerusalén y sobre los varones de Judá todo el mal que les he anunciado y que no quisieron escuchar.

32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

32 Y tomó Jeremías otro rollo y lo dio a Baruc hijo de Nerías, el escriba; y escribió en él de boca de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que quemó en el fuego Joacim, rey de Judá; y aun fueron añadidas sobre ellas muchas otras palabras semejantes.
