1 Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

1 Y estas son las palabras de la carta que el profeta Jeremías envió desde Jerusalén a los ancianos que habían quedado de los del cautiverio, y a los sacerdotes, y a los profetas y a todo el pueblo que Nabucodonosor llevó cautivo de Jerusalén a Babilonia

2 (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

2 (después de haber salido el rey Jeconías, y la reina, y los oficiales del palacio, y los príncipes de Judá y de Jerusalén, y los artesanos y los herreros de Jerusalén),

3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

3 por mano de Elasa hijo de Safán y de Gemarías hijo de Hilcías (a quienes envió Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia, a Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia), diciendo:

4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

4 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, a todos los de la cautividad que hice llevar cautivos de Jerusalén a Babilonia:

5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

5 Edificad casas y morad en ellas; y plantad huertos y comed del fruto de ellos;

6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

6 casaos y engendrad hijos e hijas; dad esposas a vuestros hijos y dad maridos a vuestras hijas, para que tengan hijos e hijas; y multiplicaos allá y no os disminuyáis.

7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

7 Y procurad la paz de la ciudad a la cual os hice desterrar y rogad por ella a Jehová, porque en su paz tendréis vosotros paz.

8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

8 Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: No os engañen vuestros profetas que están entre vosotros, ni vuestros adivinos, ni hagáis caso de los sueños que soñáis.

9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

9 Porque falsamente os profetizan ellos en mi nombre; yo no los envié, ha dicho Jehová.

10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

10 Porque así ha dicho Jehová: Cuando en Babilonia se cumplan los setenta años, yo os visitaré y os cumpliré mi buena palabra de haceros volver a este lugar.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

11 Porque yo sé los pensamientos que tengo acerca de vosotros, dice Jehová, pensamientos de paz y no de mal, para daros un porvenir y una esperanza.

12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

12 Entonces me invocaréis, y vendréis y oraréis a mí, y yo os escucharé;

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

13 y me buscaréis y me hallaréis cuando me busquéis con todo vuestro corazón.

14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

14 Y seré hallado por vosotros, dice Jehová, y os haré volver de vuestra cautividad y os reuniré de todas las naciones y de todos los lugares adonde os arrojé, dice Jehová; y os haré volver al lugar de donde os hice llevar al destierro.

15 Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

15 Por cuanto habéis dicho: Jehová nos ha levantado profetas en Babilonia,

16 Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

16 así ha dicho Jehová acerca del rey que está sentado sobre el trono de David y acerca de todo el pueblo que mora en esta ciudad, de vuestros hermanos que no salieron con vosotros al cautiverio,

17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

17 así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: He aquí, yo envío contra ellos espada, hambre y pestilencia, y los pondré como los higos malos, que de tan malos no se pueden comer.

18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

18 Y los perseguiré con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia; y los haré objeto de terror para todos los reinos de la tierra, de maldición, y de espanto, y de burla y de afrenta entre todas las naciones adonde los habré arrojado.

19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

19 Porque no escucharon mis palabras, dice Jehová, que les envié por medio de mis siervos los profetas, madrugando y enviándolos, pero no habéis escuchado, dice Jehová.

20 Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

20 ¡Escuchad, pues, la palabra de Jehová, todos vosotros los desterrados que envié de Jerusalén a Babilonia!

21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

21 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, acerca de Acab hijo de Colaías y acerca de Sedequías hijo de Maasías, quienes os profetizan mentira en mi nombre: He aquí, yo los entrego en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y él los matará delante de vuestros ojos.

22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

22 Y todos los desterrados de Judá que están en Babilonia harán de ellos una maldición, diciendo: Póngate Jehová como a Sedequías y como a Acab, a quienes asó al fuego el rey de Babilonia.

23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

23 Porque hicieron maldad en Israel, y cometieron adulterio con las esposas de sus prójimos y hablaron palabras mentirosas en mi nombre, palabras que no les mandé; yo soy el que sabe y soy testigo, dice Jehová.

24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

24 Y a Semaías, el nehelamita, hablarás, diciendo:

25 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

25 Así habló Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, diciendo: Por cuanto enviaste cartas en tu nombre a todo el pueblo que está en Jerusalén, y a Sofonías hijo de Maasías, el sacerdote, y a todos los sacerdotes, diciendo:

26 The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

26 Jehová te ha puesto como sacerdote en lugar del sacerdote Joiada, para que te encargues en la casa de Jehová de todo hombre loco que profetice, poniéndolo en el cepo y en el collar de hierro.

27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

27 ¿Por qué, pues, no has reprendido ahora a Jeremías de Anatot, que os profetiza?

28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

28 Porque él nos envió a decir en Babilonia: Largo será el cautiverio; edificad casas y habitadlas; plantad huertos y comed el fruto de ellos.

29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

29 Y el sacerdote Sofonías había leído esta carta a oídos del profeta Jeremías.

30 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

30 Y vino la palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

31 Envía a decir a todos los cautivos: Así ha dicho Jehová de Semaías, el nehelamita: Por cuanto os profetizó Semaías sin que yo lo hubiera enviado, y os hizo confiar en mentira,

32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

32 por eso, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que yo castigaré a Semaías, el nehelamita, y a su descendencia; no tendrá varón que more en medio de este pueblo ni verá el bien que haré yo a mi pueblo, dice Jehová, porque contra Jehová ha hablado rebelión.
