1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.

1 La palabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías por motivo de la sequía.

2 Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

2 Se ha puesto de duelo Judá, y sus puertas desfallecen; se sentaron tristes en tierra, y subió el clamor de Jerusalén.

3 And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

3 Y sus nobles enviaron a sus criados por agua; llegaron a las cisternas y no hallaron agua; volvieron con sus vasijas vacías; se avergonzaron, y se humillaron y cubrieron sus cabezas.

4 Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

4 Porque se resquebrajó el suelo por no haber llovido en la tierra; los labradores, avergonzados, cubrieron sus cabezas.

5 Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

5 Y aun las ciervas en los campos parían y abandonaban la cría, porque no había hierba.

6 And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

6 Y los asnos monteses se ponían en las alturas; olfateaban el viento como los chacales; sus ojos se debilitaron, porque no había hierba.

7 O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.

7 Aunque nuestras iniquidades testifican contra nosotros, oh Jehová, actúa por amor de tu nombre; porque nuestras rebeliones se han multiplicado; contra ti hemos pecado.

8 O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

8 Oh esperanza de Israel, Salvador suyo en el tiempo de la aflicción, ¿por qué has de ser como peregrino en la tierra, y como caminante que se retira para pasar la noche?

9 Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.

9 ¿Por qué has de ser como hombre atónito, como valiente que no puede librar? Sin embargo, estás entre nosotros, oh Jehová, y sobre nosotros es invocado tu nombre; ¡no nos desampares!

10 Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

10 Así ha dicho Jehová a este pueblo: Se deleitaron en vagar; no refrenaron sus pies; por tanto, Jehová no se agrada de ellos; se acordará ahora de la iniquidad de ellos y castigará sus pecados.

11 Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

11 Y me dijo Jehová: No ruegues por el bien de este pueblo.

12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

12 Cuando ayunen, yo no escucharé su clamor, y cuando ofrezcan holocausto y ofrenda, no los aceptaré, sino que los consumiré con espada, y con hambre y con pestilencia.

13 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

13 Y yo dije: ¡Ah, Señor Jehová! He aquí que los profetas les dicen: No veréis espada, ni habrá hambre entre vosotros, sino que en este lugar os daré paz verdadera.

14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

14 Me dijo entonces Jehová: Falsamente profetizan los profetas en mi nombre. Yo no los envié, ni los mandé ni les hablé; visión mentirosa, y adivinación, y vanidad y engaño de su corazón os profetizan.

15 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

15 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová sobre los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre, los cuales yo no envié, y que dicen: Ni espada ni hambre habrá en esta tierra; con espada y con hambre serán consumidos esos profetas.

16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

16 Y el pueblo a quien profetizan será echado en las calles de Jerusalén a causa del hambre y de la espada; y no habrá quien los entierre a ellos, ni a sus esposas, ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; y sobre ellos derramaré su propia maldad.

17 Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

17 Les dirás, pues, esta palabra: Derramen mis ojos lágrimas noche y día, y no cesen, porque de gran quebranto es quebrantada la virgen hija de mi pueblo, de herida muy grave.

18 If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

18 Si salgo al campo, he aquí, muertos a espada; y si entro en la ciudad, he aquí, enfermedades por el hambre; porque tanto el profeta como el sacerdote anduvieron vagando en tierra que no conocían.

19 Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!

19 ¿Has desechado enteramente a Judá? ¿Ha aborrecido tu alma a Sion? ¿Por qué nos has herido sin que haya remedio para nosotros? Esperábamos paz, y no hubo bien; tiempo de curación, y he aquí, turbación.

20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

20 Reconocemos, oh Jehová, nuestra maldad, la iniquidad de nuestros padres, porque contra ti hemos pecado.

21 Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

21 Por amor de tu nombre, no nos desprecies ni deshonres el trono de tu gloria; acuérdate, no invalides tu convenio con nosotros.

22 Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

22 ¿Hay entre los ídolos de las naciones quien haga llover? ¿Y darán los cielos lluvias? ¿No eres tú, oh Jehová, nuestro Dios? En ti, pues, esperamos, porque tú has hecho todas estas cosas.
