1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

1 Desciende y siéntate en el polvo, virgen hija de Babilonia; siéntate en la tierra sin trono, hija de los caldeos, porque nunca más te llamarán tierna y delicada.

2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

2 Toma las piedras del molino y muele harina; quítate el velo, levántate la falda, descubre las piernas, pasa los ríos.

3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

3 Expuesta será tu desnudez, y tu vergüenza será vista; tomaré venganza y no perdonaré a ningún hombre.

4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

4 Nuestro Redentor, Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre, el Santo de Israel.

5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.

5 Siéntate en silencio y entra en las tinieblas, hija de los caldeos, porque nunca más te llamarán señora de reinos.

6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

6 Me enojé contra mi pueblo, profané mi heredad y los entregué en tus manos; no les tuviste misericordia; sobre el anciano agravaste mucho tu yugo.

7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

7 Y dijiste: Para siempre seré señora; y no pusiste esto en tu corazón ni te acordaste de tu final.

8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

8 Oye, pues, ahora esto, voluptuosa, tú que estás sentada confiadamente, que dices en tu corazón: Yo soy, y fuera de mí no hay más; no quedaré viuda ni me quedaré sin hijos.

9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

9 Estas dos cosas te vendrán de repente, en un mismo día: pérdida de hijos y viudez. En toda su perfección vendrán sobre ti, por la multitud de tus hechicerías y por tus muchos encantamientos.

10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.

10 Porque te confiaste en tu maldad, diciendo: Nadie me ve. Tu sabiduría y tu mismo conocimiento te engañaron, y dijiste en tu corazón: Yo, y nadie más.

11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

11 Vendrá, pues, sobre ti un mal cuyo origen no sabrás; caerá sobre ti un desastre que no podrás evitar; y una destrucción que no te imaginas vendrá de repente sobre ti.

12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

12 Persiste, pues, en tus encantamientos y en la multitud de tus hechicerías, en las cuales te fatigaste desde tu juventud; quizá sacarás provecho; quizá provocarás temor.

13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

13 Te has fatigado en la multitud de tus consejos. Que se pongan de pie y que te defiendan los astrólogos, los que observan las estrellas, los que cuentan los meses, para pronosticar lo que vendrá sobre ti.

14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

14 He aquí que serán como rastrojo; el fuego los quemará; no salvarán sus vidas del poder de la llama; no quedará brasa para calentarse ni lumbre ante la cual sentarse.

15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.

15 Así te serán aquellos con quienes has trabajado, que han comerciado contigo desde tu juventud; cada uno irá por su camino; no habrá quien te salve.
