1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.

1 Y aconteció en el año catorce del rey Ezequías, que Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, subió contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y las tomó.

2 And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.

2 Y el rey de Asiria envió al Rabsaces con un gran ejército desde Laquis a Jerusalén contra el rey Ezequías; y se detuvo junto al acueducto del estanque de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del Lavador.

3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder.

3 Y salió a él Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, el mayordomo, y Sebna, el escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, el cronista.

4 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

4 A estos dijo el Rabsaces: Decid ahora a Ezequías: El gran rey, el rey de Asiria, dice así: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que confías?

5 I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

5 Yo digo, alegas tú (pero son solo palabras): Tengo consejo y fuerza para la guerra. Ahora bien, ¿en quién confías para que te rebeles contra mí?

6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

6 He aquí que confías en esta vara de caña astillada, en Egipto, sobre la cual si alguien se apoya, le entrará por la mano y la traspasará. Tal es Faraón, rey de Egipto, para con todos los que en él confían.

7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

7 Y si me dices: En Jehová nuestro Dios confiamos; ¿no es este aquel cuyos lugares altos y cuyos altares hizo quitar Ezequías, y dijo a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis?

8 Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

8 Ahora, pues, yo te ruego que hagas un trato con el rey de Asiria, mi señor, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes dar jinetes para ellos.

9 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

9 ¿Cómo, pues, podrás resistir a un capitán, al menor de los siervos de mi señor, y confiar en Egipto para tener carros y hombres de a caballo?

10 And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

10 ¿Y acaso he venido yo ahora a esta tierra para destruirla sin Jehová? Jehová me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra y destrúyela.

11 Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

11 Entonces dijo Eliaquim, y Sebna y Joa al Rabsaces: Te ruego que hables a tus siervos en la lengua de los sirios, porque nosotros la entendemos, y no hables con nosotros en la lengua de los judíos a oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.

12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

12 Y dijo el Rabsaces: ¿Acaso me ha enviado mi señor a decir estas palabras solamente a ti y a tu Señor, y no a los hombres que están sobre el muro, quienes van a comer su propio estiércol y beber su propia orina junto con vosotros?

13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

13 Entonces se puso en pie el Rabsaces y gritó a gran voz en la lengua de los judíos, diciendo: Oíd las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.

14 El rey dice así: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar.

15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

15 Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente Jehová nos librará; esta ciudad no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.

16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;

16 ¡No escuchéis a Ezequías!, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced conmigo la paz y salid a mí; y coma cada uno de su viña, y cada uno de su higuera, y beba cada cual las aguas de su pozo,

17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

17 hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de mosto, tierra de pan y de viñas.

18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

18 Mirad que no os engañe Ezequías, diciendo: Jehová nos librará. ¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha librado su tierra de manos del rey de Asiria?

19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

19 ¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim? ¿Y han librado ellos a Samaria de mis manos?

20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

20 ¿Quién de entre todos los dioses de estas tierras ha librado su tierra de mis manos, para que Jehová libre de mis manos a Jerusalén?

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

21 Pero ellos callaron y no le respondieron palabra, porque el rey así lo había mandado, diciendo: No le respondáis.

22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

22 Entonces Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, el mayordomo, y Sebna, el escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, el cronista, fueron a Ezequías, rasgados sus vestidos, y le contaron las palabras del Rabsaces.
