1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

1 Oíd la palabra de Jehová, hijos de Israel, porque Jehová contiende con los moradores de la tierra, porque no hay verdad, ni misericordia ni conocimiento de Dios en la tierra.

2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

2 El perjurar, y el mentir, y el matar, y el hurtar y el cometer adulterio prevalecen, y el derramar sangre tras sangre.

3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

3 Por lo cual la tierra estará de duelo, y desfallecerá todo morador de ella con las bestias del campo y las aves del cielo; y aun los peces del mar desaparecerán.

4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

4 Que ningún hombre contienda ni reprenda a otro hombre, porque tu pueblo es como los que contienden con el sacerdote.

5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

5 Caerás, por tanto, en pleno día, y caerá también contigo el profeta de noche; y a tu madre destruiré.

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

6 Mi pueblo fue destruido porque le faltó conocimiento. Por cuanto tú desechaste el conocimiento, yo te desecharé a ti y no serás sacerdote para mí; y porque olvidaste la ley de tu Dios, también yo me olvidaré de tus hijos.

7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

7 Cuanto más se multiplicaban, más pecaban contra mí; también yo cambiaré su honra en afrenta.

8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

8 Comen del pecado de mi pueblo, y en su iniquidad ponen su alma.

9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.

9 Y será el pueblo como el sacerdote; y los castigaré por sus caminos y les pagaré conforme a sus obras.

10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.

10 Y comerán, mas no se saciarán; fornicarán, mas no se multiplicarán, porque dejaron de hacer caso a Jehová.

11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

11 Fornicación, y vino y mosto quitan el juicio.

12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

12 Mi pueblo a su ídolo de madera pregunta, y su palo le responde; porque un espíritu de fornicaciones lo hizo errar, y dejaron a su Dios para fornicar.

13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

13 Sobre las cimas de los montes sacrifican, y queman incienso sobre los collados, debajo de las encinas, y de los álamos y de los olmos, porque tenían buena sombra; por tanto, vuestras hijas fornicarán, y vuestras nueras cometerán adulterio.

14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.

14 No castigaré a vuestras hijas cuando forniquen, ni a vuestras nueras cuando cometan adulterio; porque ellos mismos se van con rameras y con malas mujeres ofrecían sacrificios; por tanto, el pueblo sin entendimiento caerá.

15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.

15 Si fornicas tú, oh Israel, al menos que Judá no se haga culpable. ¡Y no entréis en Gilgal, ni subáis a Bet-avén ni juréis: Vive Jehová!

16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

16 Porque como novilla terca se apartó Israel. ¿Los apacentará ahora Jehová como a un cordero en lugar espacioso?

17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

17 Efraín se ha unido a ídolos; déjalo.

18 Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.

18 Su bebida se corrompió; fornicaron pertinazmente; sus príncipes amaron con pasión lo que avergüenza.

19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

19 La ató el viento en sus alas, y de sus sacrificios se avergonzarán.
