1 And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.

1 Y mandó José al mayordomo de su casa, diciendo: Llena de alimento los costales de estos hombres, cuanto puedan llevar, y pon el dinero de cada uno en la boca de su costal.

2 And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

2 Y pondrás mi copa, la copa de plata, en la boca del costal del menor, con el dinero de su trigo. Y él hizo como dijo José.

3 As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.

3 Venida la mañana, los hombres fueron despedidos con sus asnos.

4 And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?

4 Habiendo ellos salido de la ciudad, de la que aún no se habían alejado, dijo José a su mayordomo: Levántate y sigue a esos hombres; y cuando los alcances, diles: ¿Por qué habéis vuelto mal por bien?

5 Is not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.

5 ¿No es esta la copa en la que bebe mi señor y por la que suele adivinar? Habéis hecho mal en lo que hicisteis.

6 And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words.

6 Y cuando él los alcanzó, les dijo estas palabras.

7 And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing:

7 Y ellos le respondieron: ¿Por qué dice mi señor tales cosas? Nunca tal cosa hagan tus siervos.

8 Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold?

8 He aquí, el dinero que hallamos en la boca de nuestros costales te lo volvimos a traer desde la tierra de Canaán. ¿Cómo, pues, habíamos de hurtar de casa de tu señor plata u oro?

9 With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen.

9 Aquel de tus siervos en quien sea hallada la copa, que muera, y aun nosotros seremos esclavos de mi señor.

10 And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless.

10 Y él dijo: También ahora sea conforme a vuestras palabras; aquel en quien se halle será mi esclavo, y vosotros seréis sin culpa.

11 Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.

11 Ellos entonces se dieron prisa, y bajando cada uno su costal en tierra, abrió cada cual su costal.

12 And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

12 Y buscó; desde el mayor comenzó y acabó en el menor; y la copa fue hallada en el costal de Benjamín.

13 Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city.

13 Entonces ellos rasgaron sus vestidos, y cargó cada uno su asno y volvieron a la ciudad.

14 And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground.

14 Y llegó Judá con sus hermanos a casa de José, que aún estaba allí, y se postraron delante de él en tierra.

15 And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?

15 Y les dijo José: ¿Qué acción es esta que habéis hecho? ¿No sabéis que un hombre como yo sabe adivinar?

16 And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.

16 Entonces dijo Judá: ¿Qué diremos a mi señor? ¿Qué hablaremos? ¿O con qué nos justificaremos? Dios ha hallado la maldad de tus siervos; he aquí, nosotros somos siervos de mi señor, nosotros, y también aquel en cuyo poder fue hallada la copa.

17 And he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.

17 Y él respondió: Nunca haga yo tal cosa. El hombre en cuyo poder fue hallada la copa, él será mi esclavo; vosotros id en paz a vuestro padre.

18 Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.

18 Entonces Judá se acercó a él y le dijo: Ay, señor mío, te ruego que permitas a tu siervo hablar una palabra a oídos de mi señor, y no se encienda tu enojo contra tu siervo, pues tú eres como Faraón.

19 My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?

19 Mi señor preguntó a sus siervos, diciendo: ¿Tenéis padre o hermano?

20 And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.

20 Y nosotros respondimos a mi señor: Tenemos un padre anciano y un hermano joven que le nació en su vejez, pequeño aún; y un hermano suyo murió, y solo él quedó de los hijos de su madre, y su padre lo ama.

21 And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him.

21 Y tú dijiste a tus siervos: Traédmelo, y pondré mis ojos sobre él.

22 And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die.

22 Y nosotros dijimos a mi señor: El joven no puede dejar a su padre, porque si le deja, su padre morirá.

23 And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.

23 Y dijiste a tus siervos: Si vuestro hermano menor no desciende con vosotros, no veréis más mi rostro.

24 And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

24 Aconteció, pues, que cuando llegamos a mi padre, tu siervo, le contamos las palabras de mi señor.

25 And our father said, Go again, and buy us a little food.

25 Y dijo nuestro padre: Volved, compradnos un poco de alimento.

26 And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us.

26 Y nosotros respondimos: No podemos ir. Si nuestro hermano menor va con nosotros, iremos, porque no podemos ver el rostro del hombre si no está con nosotros nuestro hermano menor.

27 And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two sons:

27 Entonces tu siervo, mi padre, nos dijo: Vosotros sabéis que dos hijos me dio a luz mi esposa;

28 And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since:

28 uno salió de mi lado, y pienso de cierto que fue despedazado, y hasta ahora no le he visto;

29 And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

29 y si tomáis también a este de mi lado y le acontece algún desastre, haréis descender mis canas con dolor al Seol.

30 Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life;

30 Ahora, pues, cuando llegue yo a tu siervo, mi padre, si el joven no está conmigo, como su alma está ligada al alma de él,

31 It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.

31 sucederá que cuando no vea al joven, morirá; y tus siervos harán descender las canas de tu siervo, nuestro padre, con dolor al Seol.

32 For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.

32 Como tu siervo quedó como fiador del joven ante mi padre, diciendo: Si no te lo traigo de vuelta, entonces yo seré culpable ante mi padre todos los días;

33 Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.

33 te ruego, por tanto, que quede ahora tu siervo en lugar del joven por esclavo de mi señor, y que el joven vaya con sus hermanos.

34 For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.

34 Porque, ¿cómo volveré yo a mi padre sin el joven? No podré, por no ver el mal que sobrevendrá a mi padre.
