1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

1 Y aconteció en aquel tiempo que Judá descendió de donde estaban sus hermanos y se fue a casa de un varón adulamita que se llamaba Hira.

2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

2 Y vio allí Judá a la hija de un hombre cananeo, el cual se llamaba Súa; y la tomó y se llegó a ella.

3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

3 Y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Er.

4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

4 Y concibió otra vez y dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Onán.

5 And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

5 Y volvió a concebir y dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Sela. Y estaba en Quezib cuando lo dio a luz.

6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

6 Y Judá tomó esposa para su primogénito Er, la cual se llamaba Tamar.

7 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

7 Y Er, el primogénito de Judá, fue malo ante los ojos de Jehová, y le quitó Jehová la vida.

8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

8 Entonces Judá dijo a Onán: Llégate a la esposa de tu hermano, y despósate con ella y levanta descendencia a tu hermano.

9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

9 Y sabiendo Onán que la descendencia no había de ser suya, sucedía que cuando se llegaba a la esposa de su hermano vertía en tierra, para no dar descendencia a su hermano.

10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

10 Y desagradó a los ojos de Jehová lo que hacía, y a él también le quitó la vida.

11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

11 Y Judá dijo a su nuera Tamar: Quédate viuda en casa de tu padre hasta que crezca mi hijo Sela, porque dijo: No sea que muera él también como sus hermanos. Y se fue Tamar y estuvo en casa de su padre.

12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

12 Y pasaron muchos días y murió la hija de Súa, esposa de Judá; y Judá se consoló, y subía a los trasquiladores de sus ovejas a Timnat, él y su amigo Hira, el adulamita.

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

13 Y fue dado aviso a Tamar, diciendo: He aquí tu suegro sube a Timnat a trasquilar sus ovejas.

14 And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

14 Entonces se quitó ella los vestidos de su viudez, y se cubrió con un velo, y se arrebozó y se puso a la entrada de Enaim que está junto al camino de Timnat, porque veía que había crecido Sela, y ella no era dada a él por esposa.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

15 Y la vio Judá y la tuvo por ramera, porque ella había cubierto su rostro.

16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

16 Y se apartó del camino hacia ella y le dijo: Déjame ahora estar contigo, porque no sabía que era su nuera; y ella dijo: ¿Qué me darás si te llegas a mí?

17 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

17 Él respondió: Yo te enviaré del ganado un cabrito de las cabras. Y ella dijo: Dame una prenda hasta que lo envíes.

18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

18 Entonces él dijo: ¿Qué prenda te daré? Ella respondió: Tu anillo, y tu cordón y tu báculo que tienes en tu mano. Y él se los dio y se llegó a ella, y ella concibió de él.

19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

19 Y se levantó, y se fue; y se quitó el velo de sobre sí y se vistió nuevamente las ropas de su viudez.

20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.

20 Y Judá envió el cabrito de las cabras por medio de su amigo, el adulamita, para que recuperase la prenda de manos de la mujer; mas no la halló.

21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

21 Y preguntó a los hombres de aquel lugar, diciendo: ¿Dónde está la ramera de Enaim junto al camino? Y ellos le dijeron: No ha estado aquí ramera alguna.

22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

22 Entonces él se volvió a Judá y dijo: No la he hallado; y también los hombres del lugar dijeron: Aquí no ha estado ramera.

23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

23 Y Judá dijo: Tómeselo para sí, para que no seamos menospreciados; he aquí yo he enviado este cabrito, y tú no la hallaste.

24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

24 Y acaeció que al cabo de unos tres meses fue dado aviso a Judá, diciendo: Tamar, tu nuera, ha fornicado y ciertamente está encinta a causa de las fornicaciones. Y Judá dijo: Sacadla, y sea quemada.

25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

25 Y ella, cuando la sacaban, envió a decir a su suegro: Del hombre de quien son estas cosas estoy encinta; y dijo más: Mira ahora de quién son estas cosas: el anillo, y el cordón y el báculo.

26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

26 Entonces Judá los reconoció y dijo: Más justa es ella que yo, por cuanto no la he dado a Sela, mi hijo. Y nunca más la conoció.

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

27 Y aconteció que al tiempo de dar a luz, he aquí había mellizos en su vientre.

28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

28 Y sucedió, cuando daba a luz, que uno de ellos sacó la mano, y la partera tomó su mano y le ató un hilo de grana, diciendo: Este salió primero.

29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.

29 Pero volviendo él a meter la mano, he aquí su hermano salió; y ella dijo: ¡Que brecha te has abierto! Y llamó su nombre Fares.

30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

30 Y después salió su hermano, el que tenía en su mano el hilo de grana, y llamó su nombre Zara.
