1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

1 Y hubo hambre en la tierra, además de la primera hambre que hubo en los días de Abraham; y se fue Isaac a Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, en Gerar.

2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

2 Y se le apareció Jehová y le dijo: No desciendas a Egipto; habita en la tierra que yo te diré.

3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

3 Habita en esta tierra, y yo estaré contigo y te bendeciré, porque a ti y a tu descendencia os daré todas estas tierras y confirmaré el juramento que juré a Abraham, tu padre.

4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

4 Y multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo y daré a tu descendencia todas estas tierras; y todas las naciones de la tierra serán bendecidas en tu descendencia,

5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

5 por cuanto oyó Abraham mi voz y guardó mi encargo, mis mandamientos, mis estatutos y mis leyes.

6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:

6 Habitó, pues, Isaac en Gerar.

7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.

7 Y los hombres de aquel lugar le preguntaron acerca de su esposa, y él respondió: Es mi hermana, porque tuvo miedo de decir: Es mi esposa; no sea que, pensó, los hombres del lugar me maten por causa de Rebeca, porque ella era de hermoso aspecto.

8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

8 Y sucedió que, después que él estuvo allí muchos días, Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, mirando por una ventana, vio a Isaac que acariciaba a Rebeca, su esposa.

9 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

9 Y llamó Abimelec a Isaac y le dijo: He aquí ella es de cierto tu esposa. ¿Cómo, pues, dijiste: Es mi hermana? E Isaac le respondió: Porque me dije: Quizá moriré por causa de ella.

10 And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.

10 Y Abimelec dijo: ¿Por qué nos has hecho esto? Por poco hubiera dormido alguno del pueblo con tu esposa, y hubieras traído sobre nosotros el pecado.

11 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

11 Entonces Abimelec mandó a todo el pueblo, diciendo: El que tocare a este hombre o a su esposa de cierto morirá.

12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

12 Y sembró Isaac en aquella tierra, y cosechó aquel año ciento por uno; y le bendijo Jehová.

13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

13 Y el hombre se engrandeció y fue prosperando y engrandeciéndose hasta hacerse muy poderoso.

14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

14 Y tuvo rebaños de ovejas, y hatos de vacas y mucha servidumbre; y los filisteos le tuvieron envidia.

15 For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

15 Y todos los pozos que habían abierto los criados de Abraham, su padre, en sus días, los filisteos los habían cegado y llenado de tierra.

16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.

16 Y dijo Abimelec a Isaac: Apártate de nosotros, porque te has hecho mucho más poderoso que nosotros.

17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

17 E Isaac se fue de allí, y asentó sus tiendas en el valle de Gerar y habitó allí.

18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

18 Y volvió a abrir Isaac los pozos de agua que habían abierto en los días de Abraham, su padre, y que los filisteos habían cegado después de la muerte de Abraham; y los llamó por los nombres que su padre los había llamado.

19 And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

19 Y los siervos de Isaac cavaron en el valle y hallaron allí un pozo de aguas vivas.

20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.

20 Y los pastores de Gerar riñeron con los pastores de Isaac, diciendo: El agua es nuestra; por eso llamó el nombre del pozo Esek, porque habían altercado con él.

21 And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

21 Y abrieron otro pozo y también riñeron por él; y llamó su nombre Sitna.

22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

22 Y se apartó de allí y abrió otro pozo, y no riñeron por él; y llamó su nombre Rehobot y dijo: Porque ahora Jehová nos ha hecho prosperar y fructificaremos en la tierra.

23 And he went up from thence to Beer-sheba.

23 Y de allí subió a Beerseba.

24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.

24 Y se le apareció Jehová aquella noche y le dijo: Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, tu padre; no temas, porque yo estoy contigo, y te bendeciré y multiplicaré tu descendencia por amor de Abraham, mi siervo.

25 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.

25 Y edificó allí un altar, e invocó el nombre de Jehová y plantó allí su tienda; y abrieron allí los siervos de Isaac un pozo.

26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.

26 Y Abimelec vino a él desde Gerar, y con él Ahuzat, amigo suyo, y Ficol, capitán de su ejército.

27 And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?

27 Y les dijo Isaac: ¿Por qué venís a mí, ya que me habéis aborrecido y me habéis echado de entre vosotros?

28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;

28 Y ellos respondieron: Hemos visto que Jehová está contigo, y dijimos: Haya ahora juramento entre nosotros, entre tú y nosotros, y hagamos pacto contigo,

29 That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.

29 de que no nos harás mal, como nosotros no te hemos tocado, y como solamente te hemos hecho bien y te enviamos en paz; tú eres ahora bendito de Jehová.

30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.

30 Entonces él les hizo un banquete, y comieron y bebieron.

31 And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

31 Y se levantaron de madrugada e hicieron juramento el uno al otro; e Isaac los despidió, y ellos partieron de su lado en paz.

32 And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.

32 Y en aquel día sucedió que vinieron los criados de Isaac y le dieron nuevas acerca del pozo que habían abierto, y le dijeron: Hemos hallado agua.

33 And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beer-sheba unto this day.

33 Y lo llamó Seba; por esta causa el nombre de aquella ciudad es Beerseba hasta este día.

34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:

34 Y cuando Esaú tenía cuarenta años, tomó por esposa a Judit hija de Beeri heteo, y a Basemat hija de Elón heteo;

35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

35 y fueron amargura de espíritu para Isaac y para Rebeca.
