1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

1 Después de estas cosas vino la palabra de Jehová a Abram en visión, diciendo: No temas, Abram; yo soy tu escudo, y tu galardón será sobremanera grande.

2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

2 Y respondió Abram: Señor Jehová, ¿qué me darás, dado que ando sin hijo, y el heredero de mi casa es el damasceno Eliezer?

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

3 Dijo además Abram: Mira que no me has dado prole, y he aquí que es mi heredero uno nacido en mi casa.

4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

4 Y luego la palabra de Jehová vino a él, diciendo: No te heredará este, sino uno que saldrá de tus entrañas será el que te herede.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

5 Y le llevó fuera y le dijo: Mira ahora los cielos y cuenta las estrellas, si las puedes contar. Y le dijo: Así será tu descendencia.

6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

6 Y creyó a Jehová, y se le contó por justicia.

7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

7 Y le dijo: Yo soy Jehová, que te saqué de Ur de los caldeos, para darte a heredar esta tierra.

8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

8 Y él respondió: Señor Jehová, ¿en qué conoceré que la he de heredar?

9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

9 Y le dijo: Apártame una becerra de tres años, y una cabra de tres años, y un carnero de tres años, una tórtola también y un pichón.

10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

10 Y tomó él todos estos, y los partió por la mitad y puso cada mitad enfrente de la otra; mas no partió las aves.

11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

11 Y descendían aves de rapiña sobre los cuerpos muertos, y Abram las ahuyentaba.

12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

12 Mas a la caída del sol sobrecogió el sueño a Abram, y he aquí que el temor de una gran oscuridad cayó sobre él.

13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

13 Entonces dijo a Abram: Ten por cierto que tu descendencia será peregrina en tierra ajena, y servirá a los de allí y será por ellos afligida durante cuatrocientos años.

14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

14 Mas también a la nación a la cual servirán, juzgaré yo; y después de esto saldrán con gran riqueza.

15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

15 Y tú vendrás a tus padres en paz y serás sepultado en buena vejez.

16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

16 Y en la cuarta generación volverán acá, porque aún no habrá llegado al colmo la maldad del amorreo.

17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

17 Y sucedió que puesto el sol, habiendo ya oscurecido, vio un horno humeante y una antorcha de fuego que pasó por entre los animales divididos.

18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

18 En aquel día hizo Jehová un convenio con Abram, diciendo: A tu descendencia daré esta tierra, desde el río de Egipto hasta el río grande, el río Éufrates:

19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

19 la de los ceneos, y los cenezeos, y los cadmoneos,

20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

20 y los heteos, y los ferezeos, y los refaítas,

21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

21 y los amorreos, y los cananeos, y los gergeseos y los jebuseos.
