1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

1 Tenía entonces toda la tierra una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

2 Y aconteció que, cuando salieron de oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar y se asentaron allí.

3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

3 Y se dijeron los unos a los otros: Vamos, hagamos ladrillo y cozámoslo con fuego. Y les sirvió el ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

4 Y dijeron: Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue al cielo; y hagámonos un nombre, no sea que seamos esparcidos sobre la faz de toda la tierra.

5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

5 Y descendió Jehová para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.

6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

6 Y dijo Jehová: He aquí el pueblo es uno, y todos estos tienen un solo lenguaje; y han comenzado a edificar, y ahora nada los hará desistir de lo que han pensado hacer.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

7 Ahora, pues, descendamos y confundamos allí su lengua, para que ninguno entienda el habla de su compañero.

8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

8 Así los esparció Jehová desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

9 Por eso fue llamado el nombre de ella Babel, porque allí confundió Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció sobre la faz de toda la tierra.

10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

10 Estas son las generaciones de Sem: Sem, de edad de cien años, engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.

11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

11 Y vivió Sem después que engendró a Arfaxad quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

12 Y Arfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sala.

13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

13 Y vivió Arfaxad después que engendró a Sala cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

14 Y vivió Sala treinta años, y engendró a Heber.

15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

15 Y vivió Sala después que engendró a Heber cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

16 Y vivió Heber treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

17 Y vivió Heber después que engendró a Peleg cuatrocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

18 Y vivió Peleg treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

19 Y vivió Peleg después que engendró a Reu doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

20 Y Reu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

21 Y vivió Reu después que engendró a Serug doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

22 Y vivió Serug treinta años, y engendró a Nacor.

23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

23 Y vivió Serug después que engendró a Nacor doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

24 Y vivió Nacor veintinueve años, y engendró a Taré.

25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

25 Y vivió Nacor después que engendró a Taré ciento diecinueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

26 Y vivió Taré setenta años, y engendró a Abram, y a Nacor y a Harán.

27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

27 Estas son las generaciones de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, y a Nacor y a Harán; y Harán engendró a Lot.

28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

28 Y murió Harán antes que su padre Taré en la tierra de su nacimiento, en Ur de los caldeos.

29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

29 Y tomaron Abram y Nacor para sí esposas. El nombre de la esposa de Abram era Sarai, y el nombre de la esposa de Nacor, Milca hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.

30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

30 Mas Sarai era estéril y no tenía hijo.

31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

31 Y tomó Taré a Abram, su hijo, y a Lot hijo de Harán, hijo de su hijo, y a Sarai, su nuera, esposa de Abram, su hijo, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos, para ir a la tierra de Canaán; y llegaron hasta Harán y se asentaron allí.

32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

32 Y fueron los días de Taré doscientos cinco años, y murió Taré en Harán.
