1 Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

1 Y acabadas estas cosas, los oficiales vinieron a mí, diciendo: El pueblo de Israel, y los sacerdotes y los levitas no se han separado de los pueblos de las tierras, de los cananeos, los heteos, los ferezeos, los jebuseos, los amonitas, los moabitas, los egipcios y los amorreos, y hacen conforme a sus abominaciones.

2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.

2 Porque han tomado de las hijas de ellos para sí y para sus hijos, y el linaje santo ha sido mezclado con los pueblos de las tierras; y la mano de los oficiales y de los gobernadores ha sido la primera en cometer esta infidelidad.

3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.

3 Y cuando oí esto, rasgué mi vestido y mi manto, y me arranqué pelo de mi cabeza y de mi barba, y me senté atónito.

4 Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.

4 Y se reunieron en torno a mí todos los que temblaban ante las palabras del Dios de Israel, a causa de la infidelidad de los del cautiverio; mas yo estuve sentado atónito hasta la ofrenda de la tarde.

5 And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,

5 Y a la hora de la ofrenda de la tarde, me levanté de mi aflicción, y habiendo rasgado mi vestido y mi manto, me postré de rodillas y extendí mis manos a Jehová mi Dios,

6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.

6 y dije: Oh Dios mío, avergonzado y humillado estoy para levantar, oh Dios mío, mi rostro hacia ti, porque nuestras iniquidades se han multiplicado sobre nuestra cabeza, y nuestra culpa ha crecido hasta los cielos.

7 Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

7 Desde los días de nuestros padres hasta el día de hoy hemos estado bajo gran culpa; y por nuestras iniquidades nosotros, nuestros reyes y nuestros sacerdotes hemos sido entregados en manos de los reyes de las tierras, a la espada, al cautiverio, y al robo y a la vergüenza que cubre nuestro rostro, como hoy día.

8 And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

8 Y ahora, por un breve momento, ha habido misericordia de parte de Jehová nuestro Dios, para hacer que nos quedase un remanente libre y para darnos una estaca en su lugar santo, a fin de alumbrar nuestro Dios nuestros ojos y darnos un poco de vida en medio de nuestra servidumbre.

9 For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

9 Porque siervos hemos sido; mas en nuestra servidumbre no nos ha desamparado nuestro Dios, sino que ha extendido sobre nosotros su misericordia ante los reyes de Persia, para que se nos diese vida a fin de levantar la casa de nuestro Dios y restaurar sus ruinas, y darnos protección en Judá y en Jerusalén.

10 And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

10 Pero ahora, ¿qué diremos, oh Dios nuestro, después de esto? Porque nosotros hemos dejado tus mandamientos,

11 Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.

11 los cuales mandaste por medio de tus siervos los profetas, diciendo: La tierra a la cual entráis para poseerla es una tierra inmunda a causa de la impureza de los pueblos de aquellas regiones, por las abominaciones con que la han llenado de un extremo a otro con su inmundicia.

12 Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.

12 Ahora, pues, no deis vuestras hijas a los hijos de ellos, ni toméis sus hijas para vuestros hijos, ni procuréis jamás su paz ni su prosperidad, para que seáis fuertes, y comáis lo bueno de la tierra y la dejéis como heredad a vuestros hijos para siempre.

13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;

13 Y después de todo lo que nos ha sobrevenido a causa de nuestras malas obras y a causa de nuestra gran culpa, ya que tú, Dios nuestro, no nos has castigado de acuerdo con nuestras iniquidades, y nos has dado una escapatoria como esta,

14 Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?

14 ¿hemos de volver a infringir tus mandamientos y a emparentar con los pueblos que cometen estas abominaciones? ¿No te indignarías contra nosotros hasta consumirnos, sin que quedara remanente ni escapatoria?

15 O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.

15 Oh Jehová Dios de Israel, tú eres justo, pues hemos quedado un remanente que ha escapado, como en este día; henos aquí delante de ti en nuestra culpa, porque no es posible estar en tu presencia a causa de esto.
