1 Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.

1 Y mientras oraba Esdras y hacía confesión, llorando y postrándose delante de la casa de Dios, se reunió alrededor de él una congregación muy grande de Israel, hombres, y mujeres y niños; y lloraba el pueblo amargamente.

2 And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.

2 Entonces respondió Secanías hijo de Jehiel, de los hijos de Elam, y dijo a Esdras: Nosotros hemos pecado contra nuestro Dios, pues tomamos por esposas a mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos de la tierra; pero aún hay esperanza para Israel con respecto a esto.

3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

3 Ahora, pues, hagamos convenio con nuestro Dios de despedir a todas las esposas y a los nacidos de ellas, según el consejo de mi señor y de los que temen el mandamiento de nuestro Dios; y hágase conforme a la ley.

4 Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.

4 Levántate, porque esta es tu responsabilidad, y nosotros estaremos contigo; anímate y hazlo.

5 Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.

5 Entonces se levantó Esdras e hizo jurar a los principales de los sacerdotes, y a los levitas y a todo Israel que harían conforme a esto; y ellos juraron.

6 Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.

6 Se levantó luego Esdras de delante de la casa de Dios y se fue a la habitación de Johanán hijo de Eliasib; y cuando fue allá, no comió pan ni bebió agua, porque se entristeció a causa de la infidelidad de los de la cautividad.

7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

7 E hicieron proclamar en Judá y en Jerusalén a todos los hijos de la cautividad para que se reuniesen en Jerusalén;

8 And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.

8 y que el que no viniera dentro de tres días, conforme al acuerdo de los jefes y de los ancianos, perdiese todos sus bienes y fuese excluido de la congregación de los que habían regresado de la cautividad.

9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.

9 Así todos los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín se reunieron en Jerusalén dentro de los tres días, a los veinte días del mes, el cual era el mes noveno; y se sentó todo el pueblo en la plaza de la casa de Dios, temblando por motivo de aquel asunto y a causa de la fuerte lluvia.

10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.

10 Y se levantó el sacerdote Esdras y les dijo: Vosotros habéis pecado, por cuanto tomasteis por esposas a mujeres extranjeras, añadiendo así al pecado de Israel.

11 Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.

11 Ahora pues, dad gracias a Jehová, Dios de vuestros padres, y haced su voluntad y apartaos de los pueblos de las tierras y de las esposas extranjeras.

12 Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.

12 Y respondió toda aquella congregación y dijeron en alta voz: Así haremos conforme a tu palabra.

13 But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.

13 Pero el pueblo es numeroso, y estamos en tiempo de lluvia, y no podemos estar en la calle; ni la obra es de un día ni de dos, porque somos muchos los que hemos pecado en este asunto.

14 Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.

14 Que se queden nuestros jefes en lugar de toda la congregación, y todos aquellos que en nuestras ciudades hayan tomado por esposas a mujeres extranjeras vengan en tiempos señalados, y con ellos los ancianos de cada ciudad y los jueces de ellas, hasta que se aparte de nosotros el furor de la ira de nuestro Dios a causa de esto.

15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

15 Solamente Jonatán hijo de Asael, y Jahazías hijo de Ticva se opusieron a esto; y Mesulam y Sabetai, el levita, les ayudaron.

16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.

16 E hicieron así los hijos de la cautividad. Y fueron apartados el sacerdote Esdras y algunos jefes de casas paternas, según sus casas paternas, todos ellos por sus nombres, se sentaron el primer día del mes décimo para examinar el asunto.

17 And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.

17 Y concluyeron el asunto de todos aquellos que habían tomado por esposas a extranjeras el primer día del mes primero.

18 And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.

18 Y de los hijos de los sacerdotes que habían tomado por esposas a extranjeras fueron hallados estos: De los hijos de Jesúa hijo de Josadac, y de sus hermanos: Maasías, y Eliezer, y Jarib y Gedalías.

19 And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.

19 Y levantaron su mano prometiendo despedir a sus esposas; y siendo culpables, ofrecieron un carnero de los rebaños como ofrenda por su culpa.

20 And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.

20 Y de los hijos de Imer: Hanani y Zebadías.

21 And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

21 Y de los hijos de Harim: Maasías, y Elías, y Semaías, y Jehiel y Uzías.

22 And of the sons of Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

22 Y de los hijos de Pasur: Elioenai, Maasías, Ismael, Natanael, Jozabad y Elasa.

23 Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

23 Y de los hijos de los levitas: Jozabad, y Simei y Kelaía (este es Kelita), Petaías, Judá y Eliezer.

24 Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

24 Y de los cantores: Eliasib; y de los porteros: Salum, y Telem y Uri.

25 Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

25 Asimismo de Israel: De los hijos de Paros: Ramía, y Jezías, y Malquías, y Mijamín, y Eleazar, y Malquías y Benaía.

26 And of the sons of Elam; Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah.

26 Y de los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, y Jehiel, y Abdi, y Jeremot y Elías.

27 And of the sons of Zattu; Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

27 Y de los hijos de Zatu: Elioenai, Eliasib, Matanías, y Jeremot, y Zabad y Aziza.

28 Of the sons also of Bebai; Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.

28 Y de los hijos de Bebai: Johanán, Hananías, Zabai y Atlai.

29 And of the sons of Bani; Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

29 Y de los hijos de Bani: Mesulam, Maluc, y Adaía, Jasub, y Seal y Ramot.

30 And of the sons of Pahath-moab; Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

30 Y de los hijos de Pahat-moab: Adna, y Quelal, Benaía, Maasías, Matanías, Bezaleel, y Binúi y Manasés.

31 And of the sons of Harim; Eliezer, Ishijah, Malchiah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

31 Y de los hijos de Harim: Eliezer, Isías, Malquías, Semaías, Simeón,

32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.

32 Benjamín, Maluc y Semarías.

33 Of the sons of Hashum; Mattenai, Mattathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

33 De los hijos de Hasum: Matenai, Matata, Zabad, Elifelet, Jeremai, Manasés y Simei.

34 Of the sons of Bani; Maadai, Amram, and Uel,

34 De los hijos de Bani: Madai, Amram, y Uel,

35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Chelluh,

35 Benaía, Bedías, Quelúhi,

36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

43 Of the sons of Nebo; Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, and Joel, Benaiah.

43 Y de los hijos de Nebo: Jeiel, Matatías, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, y Joel, Benaía.

44 All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.

44 Todos estos habían tomado por esposas a extranjeras, y algunas de sus esposas habían dado a luz hijos.
