1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

1 Y vino a mí la palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:

2 Hijo de hombre, habla a los hijos de tu pueblo y diles: Cuando yo traiga espada sobre la tierra, y el pueblo de la tierra tome a un hombre de su territorio y lo ponga por atalaya,

3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;

3 y él vea venir la espada sobre la tierra, y toque la trompeta y avise al pueblo,

4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

4 cualquiera que oiga el sonido de la trompeta y no se dé por advertido, y al llegar la espada se lo lleva, su sangre será sobre su propia cabeza.

5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.

5 El sonido de la trompeta oyó, pero no se dio por advertido; su sangre será sobre él; pero el que se dé por advertido salvará su vida.

6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

6 Pero si el atalaya ve venir la espada y no toca la trompeta, y el pueblo no se apercibe, y al llegar la espada se lleva a alguno de entre ellos, él, por causa de su iniquidad, será llevado, pero demandaré su sangre de mano del atalaya.

7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

7 A ti, pues, oh hijo de hombre, te he puesto como atalaya de la casa de Israel, y oirás la palabra de mi boca y les advertirás de mi parte.

8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

8 Cuando yo diga al malvado: Oh malvado, ciertamente morirás; si tú no hablas para advertir al malvado de su camino, ese malvado morirá por su iniquidad, pero su sangre yo la demandaré de tu mano.

9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

9 Pero si tú adviertes al malvado de su camino para que se aparte de él, y él no se aparta de su camino, él morirá por su iniquidad, y tú habrás librado tu vida.

10 Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?

10 Tú, pues, hijo de hombre, di a la casa de Israel: Vosotros habéis hablado así, diciendo: Nuestras transgresiones y nuestros pecados están sobre nosotros, y por ellos nos estamos consumiendo, ¿cómo, pues, viviremos?

11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

11 Diles: Vivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, que no me complazco en la muerte del malvado, sino en que se vuelva el malvado de su camino y viva. ¡Volveos, volveos de vuestros malos caminos! ¿Por qué habéis de morir, oh casa de Israel?

12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.

12 Por tanto, tú, hijo de hombre, di a los hijos de tu pueblo: La justicia del justo no lo librará el día en que transgreda; y la maldad del malvado no le será estorbo el día en que se vuelva de su maldad; y el justo no podrá vivir por su justicia el día en que peque.

13 When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

13 Cuando yo diga al justo: De cierto vivirás, pero él, confiado en su justicia, cometa iniquidad, ninguna de sus justicias será recordada, sino que morirá por la iniquidad que cometió.

14 Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;

14 Y cuando yo diga al malvado: De cierto morirás, si él se vuelve de su pecado y hace lo que es justo y recto,

15 If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

15 si el malvado restituye la prenda, devuelve lo que haya robado y camina en los estatutos de la vida, sin cometer injusticia, ciertamente vivirá; no morirá.

16 None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

16 No se le recordará ninguno de sus pecados que había cometido; hizo lo que es justo y recto; ciertamente vivirá.

17 Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.

17 Pero dirán los hijos de tu pueblo: No es recto el camino del Señor; pero el camino de ellos es el que no es recto.

18 When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.

18 Cuando el justo se aparte de su justicia y haga injusticia, morirá por ello.

19 But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.

19 Y cuando el malvado se aparte de su maldad y haga lo que es justo y recto, vivirá por ello.

20 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

20 Y dijisteis: No es recto el camino del Señor. Yo os juzgaré, oh casa de Israel, a cada uno conforme a sus caminos.

21 And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.

21 Y aconteció en el año duodécimo de nuestro cautiverio, en el mes décimo, a los cinco días del mes, que vino a mí uno que había escapado de Jerusalén, diciendo: La ciudad ha sido conquistada.

22 Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.

22 Y la mano de Jehová había estado sobre mí el atardecer antes de llegar el que había escapado, y Jehová abrió mi boca antes de que aquel llegara a mí por la mañana; y se abrió mi boca, y no estuve más callado.

23 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

23 Y vino a mí la palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

24 Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.

24 Hijo de hombre, los que habitan aquellos lugares desolados de la tierra de Israel andan diciendo: Abraham solo era uno, y aun así heredó la tierra; cuánto más nosotros que somos muchos; a nosotros nos es dada la tierra en posesión.

25 Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?

25 Por tanto, diles: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Coméis con sangre, y a vuestros ídolos alzáis vuestros ojos y derramáis sangre, ¿y habéis de poseer vosotros la tierra?

26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?

26 Estáis sobre vuestras espadas, hacéis abominación, y cada cual deshonra a la esposa de su prójimo, ¿y habréis de poseer vosotros la tierra?

27 Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

27 Diles así: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Vivo yo, que los que están en aquellos lugares desolados caerán a espada, y al que está sobre la faz del campo entregaré a las fieras para que lo devoren; y los que están en las fortalezas y en las cuevas morirán de pestilencia.

28 For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

28 Y convertiré la tierra en desolación y en devastación, y cesará la soberbia de su poderío; y los montes de Israel serán asolados hasta que no haya quien pase por ellos.

29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.

29 Y sabrán que yo soy Jehová, cuando convierta la tierra en desolación y en devastación por todas las abominaciones que han hecho.

30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.

30 Y tú, hijo de hombre, los hijos de tu pueblo se mofan de ti junto a las paredes y a las puertas de las casas, y habla el uno con el otro, cada uno con su hermano, diciendo: Venid ahora, y oíd qué palabra viene de Jehová.

31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

31 Y vienen a ti como viene el pueblo, y están delante de ti como pueblo mío y oyen tus palabras, pero no las ponen por obra, sino que hacen halagos con sus bocas, y el corazón de ellos anda en pos de su avaricia.

32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

32 Y he aquí que tú eres para ellos como un cantor de amores, de hermosa voz y que toca bien un instrumento; y oyen tus palabras, pero no las ponen por obra.

33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

33 Y cuando esto venga (he aquí que ya viene), sabrán que hubo profeta entre ellos.
