1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

1 Y vino a mí la palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

2 Hijo de hombre, propón un enigma y narra una parábola a la casa de Israel.

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

3 Y dirás: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Una gran águila, de grandes alas y de largos miembros, llena de plumas de diversos colores, vino al Líbano y tomó el cogollo del cedro.

4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.

4 Arrancó el principal de sus renuevos, y lo llevó a tierra de mercaderes y lo puso en una ciudad de comerciantes.

5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

5 Tomó también de la simiente de la tierra y la puso en un campo bueno para sembrar. La plantó junto a aguas abundantes, como un sauce.

6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

6 Y brotó y se hizo una vid de mucho ramaje y poca altura; sus ramas miraban hacia el águila, y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella; así se hizo una vid y dio sarmientos y echó mugrones.

7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

7 Había también otra gran águila, de grandes alas y de muchas plumas; y he aquí que esta vid dirigió hacia ella sus raíces y extendió hacia ella sus ramas, para ser regada por ella a través de los surcos de su plantío.

8 It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

8 En un buen campo, junto a muchas aguas, fue plantada, para que echara ramas y diese fruto, y para que fuese vid robusta.

9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.

9 Di: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: ¿Será prosperada? ¿No arrancará sus raíces, y destruirá su fruto y se secará? Todas sus hojas lozanas se secarán, y eso sin gran poder ni mucha gente, para arrancarla de raíz.

10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

10 Y he aquí, está plantada; ¿será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento solano la toque? En los surcos donde creció se secará.

11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

11 Y vino a mí la palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;

12 Di ahora a la casa rebelde: ¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas? Di: He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino a Jerusalén, y tomó a tu rey y a sus príncipes y los llevó consigo a Babilonia.

13 And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:

13 Tomó también a uno de la descendencia real, e hizo pacto con él y le hizo prestar juramento; y se llevó a los poderosos de esa tierra,

14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.

14 para que el reino fuese abatido y no se levantase, a fin de que, guardando su pacto, permaneciera.

15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

15 Pero se rebeló contra él, enviando embajadores a Egipto, para que le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado? ¿Escapará el que estas cosas hizo? O el que rompió el pacto, ¿podrá escapar?

16 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

16 Vivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, que ciertamente morirá en medio de Babilonia, en el lugar donde habita el rey que le hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció y cuyo pacto, hecho con él, rompió.

17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:

17 Ni con gran ejército ni con mucha compañía hará Faraón nada por él en la batalla, cuando se levanten terraplenes y se construyan muros de asedio para cortar muchas vidas.

18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.

18 Por cuanto menospreció el juramento al quebrantar el pacto, cuando he aquí que tras haber dado su mano, hizo todas estas cosas; no escapará.

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

19 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Vivo yo, que ciertamente el juramento mío que menospreció, y mi pacto que ha quebrantado, lo traeré sobre su propia cabeza.

20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.

20 Y extenderé sobre él mi red, y quedará preso en mi malla; y lo haré venir a Babilonia, y allí entraré en juicio con él por su infidelidad que contra mí ha cometido.

21 And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.

21 Y todos sus fugitivos, con todas sus tropas, caerán a espada, y los que queden serán esparcidos a todos los vientos; y sabréis que yo, Jehová, he hablado.

22 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:

22 Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Y tomaré yo del cogollo del alto cedro y lo plantaré; del principal de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo y lo plantaré sobre un monte alto y eminente.

23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

23 En el monte de la altura de Israel lo plantaré, y dará ramas, y dará fruto y se hará magnífico cedro. Y habitarán debajo de él todas las aves de toda especie; habitarán a la sombra de sus ramas.

24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

24 Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo, Jehová, abatí el árbol elevado, levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde e hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo, Jehová, he hablado y lo hago.
