1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

1 Mas al ver los del pueblo que Moisés tardaba en descender del monte, se acercaron a Aarón y le dijeron: Levántate, haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros, porque a ese Moisés, aquel hombre que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué le haya acontecido.

2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

2 Y Aarón les dijo: Quitad los zarcillos de oro que están en las orejas de vuestras mujeres, y de vuestros hijos y de vuestras hijas, y traédmelos.

3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

3 Entonces todo el pueblo se quitó los zarcillos de oro que tenían en las orejas y se los trajeron a Aarón.

4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

4 Y él los tomó de las manos de ellos y les dio forma con un buril, e hizo de ello un becerro de fundición. Entonces dijeron: Israel, estos son tus dioses que te sacaron de la tierra de Egipto.

5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.

5 Y viendo esto Aarón, edificó un altar delante del becerro; y pregonó Aarón y dijo: Mañana será fiesta para Jehová.

6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

6 Y al día siguiente madrugaron y ofrecieron holocaustos, y presentaron ofrendas de paz; y se sentó el pueblo a comer y a beber, y se levantó a regocijarse.

7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:

7 Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés: Anda, desciende, porque tu pueblo que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto se ha corrompido.

8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

8 Pronto se han apartado del camino que yo les mandé, y se han hecho un becerro de fundición, y lo han adorado, y le han ofrecido sacrificios y han dicho: Israel, estos son tus dioses que te sacaron de la tierra de Egipto.

9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

9 Dijo además Jehová a Moisés: Yo he visto a este pueblo, y he aquí es pueblo de dura cerviz.

10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

10 Ahora, pues, déjame que se encienda mi furor contra ellos y los consuma; y de ti yo haré una gran nación.

11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

11 Entonces Moisés suplicó a Jehová, su Dios, y le dijo: Oh Jehová, ¿por qué se encenderá tu furor contra tu pueblo que tú sacaste de la tierra de Egipto con gran poder y con mano fuerte?

12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

12 ¿Por qué han de hablar los egipcios, diciendo: Para mal los sacó, para matarlos en los montes, y para raerlos de sobre la faz de la tierra? Vuélvete del furor de tu ira y arrepiéntete de hacer este mal a tu pueblo.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

13 Acuérdate de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, tus siervos, a los que has jurado por ti mismo y les has dicho: Yo multiplicaré vuestra descendencia como las estrellas del cielo; y daré a vuestra descendencia toda esta tierra de que he hablado, y la tomarán por heredad para siempre.

14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

14 Entonces Jehová se arrepintió del mal que dijo que iba a hacer a su pueblo.

15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

15 Y se volvió Moisés y descendió del monte trayendo en la mano las dos tablas del testimonio, las tablas escritas por ambos lados; de un lado y del otro estaban escritas.

16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.

16 Y las tablas eran obra de Dios, y la escritura era escritura de Dios grabada sobre las tablas.

17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

17 Y cuando Josué oyó el clamor del pueblo que gritaba, dijo a Moisés: Alarido de pelea hay en el campo.

18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.

18 Y él respondió: No es ruido de gritos de victoria, ni ruido de lamentos de derrota; voces de canto oigo yo.

19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

19 Y aconteció que cuando llegó él al campamento y vio el becerro y las danzas, se enardeció de ira Moisés, y arrojó las tablas de sus manos y las quebró al pie del monte.

20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

20 Y tomó el becerro que habían hecho y lo quemó en el fuego y lo molió hasta reducirlo a polvo, que esparció sobre las aguas, y lo dio a beber a los hijos de Israel.

21 And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?

21 Y dijo Moisés a Aarón: ¿Qué te ha hecho este pueblo para que hayas traído sobre él tan gran pecado?

22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.

22 Y respondió Aarón: No se enoje mi señor; tú conoces al pueblo, que es inclinado al mal.

23 For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

23 Porque me dijeron: Haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros, porque a ese Moisés, el hombre que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué le haya acontecido.

24 And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

24 Y yo les respondí: Quien tenga oro, apartadlo. Y me lo dieron, y lo eché al fuego, y salió este becerro.

25 And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)

25 Y al ver Moisés que el pueblo estaba desenfrenado, porque Aarón se lo había permitido, para vergüenza entre sus enemigos,

26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD's side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

26 se puso Moisés a la entrada del campamento y dijo: ¿Quién está de parte de Jehová? Únase a mí. Y se unieron a él todos los hijos de Leví.

27 And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.

27 Y él les dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová, el Dios de Israel: Póngase cada uno la espada sobre el muslo; pasad y volved a pasar de puerta en puerta por el campamento, y matad cada uno a su hermano, y a su amigo y a su pariente.

28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

28 Y los hijos de Leví lo hicieron conforme a lo dicho por Moisés, y cayeron del pueblo en aquel día como tres mil hombres.

29 For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.

29 Entonces Moisés dijo: Consagraos hoy a Jehová, porque cada uno ha ido contra su hijo y contra su hermano, para que él os dé hoy bendición sobre vosotros.

30 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.

30 Y aconteció que al día siguiente dijo Moisés al pueblo: Vosotros habéis cometido un gran pecado, pero yo subiré ahora hacia Jehová; quizá le aplaque acerca de vuestro pecado.

31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

31 Entonces volvió Moisés ante Jehová y le dijo: ¡Ay! Este pueblo ha cometido un gran pecado, porque se hicieron dioses de oro.

32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

32 Perdona ahora su pecado, y si no, te ruego que me borres ahora de tu libro que has escrito.

33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

33 Y Jehová respondió a Moisés: Al que peque contra mí, a este borraré yo de mi libro.

34 Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.

34 Ve, pues, ahora, lleva a este pueblo a donde te he dicho. He aquí, mi ángel irá delante de ti; pero en el día del castigo, yo los castigaré por su pecado.

35 And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

35 Y Jehová hirió al pueblo porque habían hecho el becerro que formó Aarón.
