1 When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;

1 Cuando supo Mardoqueo todo lo que se había hecho, rasgó sus vestidos, y se vistió de cilicio y de ceniza, y se fue por en medio de la ciudad clamando con grande y amargo clamor.

2 And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth.

2 Y llegó hasta la puerta del rey, porque no era lícito entrar por la puerta del rey vestido de cilicio.

3 And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

3 Y en cada provincia y lugar donde el mandato del rey y su decreto llegaban, había entre los judíos gran luto, y ayuno, y llanto y lamentación; cilicio y ceniza eran la cama de muchos.

4 So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.

4 Y vinieron las doncellas de Ester y sus eunucos y se lo dijeron; y la reina sintió gran dolor, y envió vestidos para hacer vestir a Mardoqueo y hacerle quitar el cilicio de sobre él; pero él no los aceptó.

5 Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.

5 Entonces Ester llamó a Hatac, uno de los eunucos del rey que él había designado para el servicio de ella, y lo mandó a Mardoqueo, con orden de averiguar qué era aquello y el porqué.

6 So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate.

6 Salió, pues, Hatac adonde estaba Mardoqueo, a la plaza de la ciudad que estaba delante de la puerta del rey.

7 And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.

7 Y Mardoqueo le declaró todo lo que le había acontecido, y le dijo de la plata que Amán había dicho que pagaría a los tesoros del rey a cambio de la destrucción de los judíos.

8 Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.

8 Le dio también una copia del texto del decreto que había sido promulgado en Susa para que fuesen destruidos, a fin de que la mostrara a Ester, y se lo declarase, y le encargara que fuese ante el rey a suplicarle y a interceder delante de él por su pueblo.

9 And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

9 Y regresó Hatac y contó a Ester las palabras de Mardoqueo.

10 Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;

10 Entonces Ester habló con Hatac y le mandó decir a Mardoqueo:

11 All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.

11 Todos los servidores del rey y el pueblo de las provincias del rey saben que para cualquier hombre o mujer que entre al patio interior para ver al rey, sin ser llamado, hay una sola ley: Ha de morir, salvo aquel a quien el rey extienda el cetro de oro; ese vivirá, y yo no he sido llamada para entrar a ver al rey estos treinta días.

12 And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.

12 Y dijeron a Mardoqueo las palabras de Ester.

13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.

13 Entonces dijo Mardoqueo que respondiesen a Ester: No pienses en tu alma que, estando en la casa del rey, solo tú escaparás entre todos los judíos.

14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

14 Porque si permaneces callada en este tiempo, el alivio y la liberación de los judíos surgirán de otra parte; pero tú y la casa de tu padre pereceréis. ¿Y quién sabe si para esta hora tú has llegado al reino?

15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,

15 Y Ester dijo que respondiesen a Mardoqueo:

16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

16 Ve y reúne a todos los judíos que se hallan en Susa, y ayunad por mí y no comáis ni bebáis en tres días, ni de noche ni de día. Yo también ayunaré con mis doncellas igualmente, y así entraré a ver al rey, aunque no sea conforme a la ley; y si perezco, que perezca.

17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

17 Entonces Mardoqueo se fue e hizo conforme a todo lo que le había mandado Ester.
