1 After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.

1 Después de estas cosas, cuando la ira del rey Asuero se había aplacado, este se acordó de Vasti, y de lo que ella había hecho y de lo que se había decretado contra ella.

2 Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:

2 Y dijeron los que estaban al servicio del rey: Busquen para el rey jóvenes vírgenes de buen parecer;

3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:

3 y nombre el rey personas en todas las provincias de su reino que reúnan a todas las jóvenes vírgenes de buen parecer en la ciudadela de Susa, en la casa de las mujeres, bajo la custodia de Hegai, eunuco del rey, encargado de las mujeres, dándoles sus atavíos;

4 And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

4 y la joven que agrade a los ojos del rey, reine en lugar de Vasti. Y esto agradó al rey, y lo hizo así.

5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

5 Había un hombre judío en la ciudadela de Susa, cuyo nombre era Mardoqueo hijo de Jair, hijo de Simei, hijo de Cis, del linaje de Benjamín,

6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

6 que había sido llevado cautivo de Jerusalén con los cautivos que fueron llevados con Jeconías, rey de Judá, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, llevó cautivo.

7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.

7 Y había criado a Hadasa, es decir, Ester, hija de su tío, porque ella no tenía padre ni madre; y la joven era de hermosa figura y de buen parecer; y cuando su padre y su madre murieron, Mardoqueo la tomó como hija suya.

8 So it came to pass, when the king's commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king's house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

8 Sucedió, pues, que cuando fueron oídos el mandato y el decreto del rey, fueron reunidas muchas jóvenes en la ciudadela de Susa, bajo la custodia de Hegai; Ester también fue llevada a la casa del rey, al cuidado de Hegai, encargado de las mujeres.

9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king's house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.

9 Y la joven agradó a sus ojos y halló gracia delante de él, por lo que se apresuró a darle sus atavíos y sus alimentos especiales, dándole también siete doncellas aptas de la casa del rey; y la llevó con sus doncellas al mejor lugar de la casa de las mujeres.

10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.

10 Ester no declaró cuál era su pueblo ni su parentela, porque Mardoqueo le había mandado que no lo declarase.

11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.

11 Y cada día Mardoqueo se paseaba delante del patio de la casa de las mujeres, para saber cómo le iba a Ester y qué le sucedía a ella.

12 Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)

12 Y cuando llegaba el turno a cada una de las jóvenes para presentarse ante el rey Asuero, después de haber estado ya doce meses conforme a la ley acerca de las mujeres (porque así se cumplía el tiempo de su embellecimiento, esto es, seis meses con óleo de mirra, y seis meses con bálsamos aromáticos y embellecedores para las mujeres),

13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house.

13 entonces cada joven se presentaba así ante el rey; todo lo que ella pedía se le daba, para llevarlo consigo desde la casa de las mujeres hasta la casa del rey.

14 In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.

14 Ella iba al anochecer, y a la mañana siguiente volvía a la segunda casa de las mujeres, a cargo de Saasgaz, eunuco del rey, encargado de las concubinas; no volvía más ante el rey, salvo que el rey lo quisiera y fuera llamada por su nombre.

15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

15 Y cuando llegó el turno de Ester hija de Abihail, tío de Mardoqueo, a la que este había tomado como hija, para presentarse ante el rey, ninguna cosa pidió sino lo que le dijo Hegai, eunuco del rey, encargado de las mujeres; y Ester hallaba gracia ante los ojos de todos los que la veían.

16 So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

16 Fue, pues, Ester llevada ante el rey Asuero a la casa real en el mes décimo, que es el mes de Tebet, en el año séptimo de su reinado.

17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

17 Y el rey amó a Ester más que a todas las otras mujeres, y ella halló gracia y benevolencia delante de él, más que todas las otras vírgenes; y puso la corona real sobre su cabeza y la hizo reina en lugar de Vasti.

18 Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther's feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of the king.

18 Hizo entonces el rey un gran banquete para todos sus príncipes y servidores, el banquete de Ester; y dio descanso a las provincias y dio presentes, conforme a la generosidad del rey.

19 And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king's gate.

19 Y cuando fueron reunidas las vírgenes por segunda vez, Mardoqueo estaba sentado a la puerta del rey.

20 Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.

20 Y Ester, según le había mandado Mardoqueo, no había declarado cuál era su parentela ni su pueblo, porque Ester hacía lo que le decía Mardoqueo, como cuando él la educaba.

21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.

21 En aquellos días, estando Mardoqueo sentado a la puerta del rey, se enojaron Bigtán y Teres, dos eunucos del rey, de la guardia de la puerta, y tramaban echar mano al rey Asuero.

22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai's name.

22 Pero cuando Mardoqueo se enteró de esto, se lo dijo a la reina Ester, y Ester se lo dijo al rey en nombre de Mardoqueo.

23 And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

23 Y cuando se inquirió el asunto, fue hallado cierto; por tanto, los dos fueron colgados en una horca. Y esto se escribió en el libro de las crónicas en presencia del rey.
