1 Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)

1 Y aconteció en los días de Asuero (el Asuero que reinó desde la India hasta Etiopía sobre ciento veintisiete provincias)

2 That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace,

2 que en aquellos días, cuando el rey Asuero se sentaba en el trono de su reino, el cual estaba en la ciudadela de Susa,

3 In the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him:

3 en el tercer año de su reinado, hizo un banquete para todos sus príncipes y servidores, teniendo delante de él a los poderosos de Persia y de Media, los nobles y los príncipes de las provincias,

4 When he shewed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and fourscore days.

4 mientras les mostraba las riquezas de la gloria de su reino y el esplendor de la magnificencia de su majestad durante muchos días, ciento ochenta días.

5 And when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace;

5 Y cuando se cumplieron estos días, hizo el rey un banquete durante siete días en el patio del huerto del palacio real para todo el pueblo que se hallaba en la ciudadela de Susa, desde el mayor hasta el menor.

6 Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.

6 El cortinaje era de lino blanco y material azul, sujeto por cuerdas de lino fino y material púrpura en aros de plata y columnas de mármol; los reclinatorios eran de oro y de plata sobre un suelo de pórfido y de mármol, de alabastro y de piedras valiosas.

7 And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.

7 Y daban a beber en vasos de oro, vasos diferentes unos de otros, y mucho vino real, conforme a la generosidad del rey.

8 And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.

8 Y el beber fue según la ley: Que a nadie se le obligara; porque así lo había mandado el rey a todos los oficiales de su casa, que se hiciese según la voluntad de cada uno.

9 Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.

9 Asimismo la reina Vasti hizo un banquete para las mujeres en la casa real del rey Asuero.

10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

10 El séptimo día, cuando el corazón del rey estaba alegre por el vino, mandó a Mehumán, a Bizta, a Harbona, a Bigta, a Abagta, a Zetar y a Carcas, siete eunucos que servían delante del rey Asuero,

11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.

11 que trajesen a la reina Vasti delante del rey con la corona real, para mostrar a los pueblos y a los príncipes su belleza, porque era de hermosa apariencia.

12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

12 Pero la reina Vasti no quiso comparecer, a pesar de la orden del rey, enviada por medio de los eunucos; y se enojó el rey muchísimo, y se encendió en él su ira.

13 Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

13 Preguntó entonces el rey a los sabios que entendían los tiempos, porque así era la costumbre del rey con todos los que conocían la ley y el derecho;

14 And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king's face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)

14 y estaban junto a él Carsena, Setar, Admata, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena y Memucán, siete príncipes de Persia y de Media que tenían acceso al rey y que ocupaban los primeros puestos en el reino.

15 What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?

15 Según la ley, ¿qué se debe hacer con la reina Vasti, por cuanto no ha cumplido la orden del rey Asuero, enviada por medio de los eunucos?

16 And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.

16 Y dijo Memucán delante del rey y de los príncipes: La reina Vasti no solamente ha ofendido al rey, sino también a todos los príncipes y a todos los pueblos que hay en todas las provincias del rey Asuero.

17 For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.

17 Porque este hecho de la reina llegará a oídos de todas las mujeres y las hará tener en poca estima a sus maridos, diciendo: El rey Asuero mandó traer ante su presencia a la reina Vasti, y ella no quiso ir.

18 Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.

18 Y entonces dirán lo mismo las señoras de Persia y de Media que hayan oído lo que hizo la reina a todos los príncipes del rey; y habrá mucho menosprecio y enojo.

19 If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.

19 Si le parece bien al rey, salga un decreto real de él, y escríbase en las leyes de Persia y de Media, para que no sea abrogado: Que no se presente más Vasti delante del rey Asuero, y que el rey haga reina a otra que sea mejor que ella.

20 And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.

20 Y el decreto que dicte el rey será oído en todo su reino, aunque es grande; y todas las mujeres honrarán a sus maridos, desde el mayor hasta el menor.

21 And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan:

21 Y esta palabra pareció bien ante los ojos del rey y de los príncipes, e hizo el rey conforme a lo dicho por Memucán;

22 For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

22 pues envió cartas a todas las provincias del rey, a cada provincia conforme a su escritura, y a cada pueblo conforme a su lenguaje, diciendo que todo hombre fuese señor en su casa, y que se publicase esto según la lengua de su pueblo.
