1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

1 Así me ha mostrado Jehová el Señor: Y he aquí, él formaba langostas cuando comenzaba a crecer el heno tardío; y he aquí, el heno tardío venía después de las siegas del rey.

2 And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

2 Y acaeció que cuando las langostas acabaron de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: Oh Señor, Jehová, perdona, te ruego; ¿quién levantará a Jacob?, porque es pequeño.

3 The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.

3 Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: No será, dijo Jehová.

4 Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

4 Jehová el Señor me mostró así: Y he aquí, Jehová el Señor llamaba para juzgar con fuego; y consumió el gran abismo y consumió una parte de la tierra.

5 Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

5 Y dije: Señor, Jehová, cesa, te ruego; ¿quién levantará a Jacob?, porque es pequeño.

6 The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.

6 Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: No será esto tampoco, dijo Jehová el Señor.

7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

7 Me enseñó así: Y he aquí, el Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho a plomo, y en su mano tenía una plomada de albañil.

8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

8 Jehová entonces me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y dije: Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: He aquí, yo pongo plomada de albañil en medio de mi pueblo Israel; ya no lo toleraré más.

9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

9 Y los lugares altos de Isaac serán destruidos, y los santuarios de Israel serán asolados; y me levantaré con espada contra la casa de Jeroboam.

10 Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

10 Entonces el sacerdote Amasías de Bet-el envió a decir a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: Amós ha conspirado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel; la tierra no puede soportar todas sus palabras.

11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

11 Porque así ha dicho Amós: Jeroboam morirá a espada, e Israel ciertamente será llevado de su tierra en cautiverio.

12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

12 Y Amasías dijo a Amós: Vidente, vete; huye a tierra de Judá, y come allá tu pan y profetiza allá;

13 But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.

13 y no profetices más en Bet-el, porque es santuario del rey y casa del reino.

14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

14 Entonces respondió Amós, y dijo a Amasías: No soy profeta ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero y recojo higos silvestres;

15 And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

15 y Jehová me tomó de detrás del ganado, y me dijo Jehová: Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel.

16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

16 Ahora, pues, oye la palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: No profetices contra Israel ni hables contra la casa de Isaac.

17 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

17 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: Tu esposa se prostituirá en la ciudad, y tus hijos y tus hijas caerán a espada, y tu tierra será repartida a cordel; y tú morirás en tierra inmunda, e Israel ciertamente será llevado cautivo lejos de su tierra.
