1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

1 Los hijos de los profetas dijeron a Eliseo: He aquí, el lugar en el que moramos contigo es demasiado estrecho para nosotros.

2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

2 Te rogamos que nos dejes ir al Jordán, y tome allí cada uno una viga, y hagamos allí un lugar en el cual habitar. Y él dijo: Andad.

3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

3 Y dijo uno: Te rogamos que vengas con tus siervos. Y él respondió: Yo iré.

4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

4 Se fue, pues, con ellos; y cuando llegaron al Jordán, cortaron la madera.

5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

5 Y aconteció que cuando uno talaba un árbol, se le cayó el hierro del hacha al agua; y dio voces, diciendo: ¡Ah, señor mío, era prestada!

6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

6 Y el hombre de Dios dijo: ¿Dónde cayó? Y él le mostró el lugar. Entonces Eliseo cortó un palo y lo echó allí, e hizo flotar el hierro.

7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

7 Y dijo: Tómalo. Y él extendió la mano y lo tomó.

8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

8 Y el rey de Siria estaba en guerra contra Israel y, consultando con sus siervos, dijo: En tal y tal lugar estará mi campamento.

9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

9 Y el hombre de Dios envió a decir al rey de Israel: Guárdate de no pasar por tal lugar, porque los sirios están allí.

10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

10 Entonces el rey de Israel envió a aquel lugar del cual el hombre de Dios le había dicho y advertido, y se guardó de ir allí, no una ni dos veces.

11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

11 Y el corazón del rey de Siria se turbó por esto, y llamó a sus siervos y les dijo: ¿No me declararéis vosotros quién de los nuestros está de parte del rey de Israel?

12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

12 Entonces uno de los siervos le dijo: Ninguno, rey, señor mío, sino que el profeta Eliseo, que está en Israel, le revela al rey de Israel las palabras que tú hablas en tu habitación más secreta.

13 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

13 Y él dijo: Id y mirad dónde está, para que yo envíe a prenderlo. Y le dijeron: He aquí, él está en Dotán.

14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

14 Entonces el rey envió allá gente de a caballo, y carros de guerra y un gran ejército, los cuales llegaron de noche y rodearon la ciudad.

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

15 Y levantándose de mañana para salir el que servía al hombre de Dios, he aquí que el ejército tenía rodeada la ciudad con gente de a caballo y carros. Entonces su criado le dijo: ¡Ah, señor mío! ¿Qué haremos?

16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

16 Y él le dijo: No tengas miedo, porque son más los que están con nosotros que los que están con ellos.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

17 Y oró Eliseo y dijo: Te ruego, oh Jehová, que abras sus ojos para que vea. Entonces Jehová abrió los ojos del joven, y miró; y he aquí que el monte estaba lleno de gente de a caballo y de carros de fuego alrededor de Eliseo.

18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

18 Y cuando los sirios descendieron hacia él, Eliseo oró a Jehová y dijo: Te ruego que hieras a esta gente con ceguera. Y los hirió con ceguera, conforme a la palabra de Eliseo.

19 And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

19 Después les dijo Eliseo: No es este el camino, ni es esta la ciudad; seguidme, y yo os guiaré al hombre que buscáis. Y los guio a Samaria.

20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

20 Y aconteció que cuando llegaron a Samaria, dijo Eliseo: Jehová, abre los ojos de estos, para que vean. Y Jehová abrió sus ojos y vieron; y he aquí que estaban en medio de Samaria.

21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

21 Y cuando el rey de Israel los hubo visto, dijo a Eliseo: ¿Los mato, padre mío? ¿Los mato?

22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

22 Y él le respondió: No los mates. ¿Matarías tú a los que tomaste cautivos con tu espada y con tu arco? Pon delante de ellos pan y agua, para que coman y beban, y regresen a sus señores.

23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

23 Entonces les preparó una gran comida; y cuando hubieron comido y bebido, los envió, y ellos regresaron a su señor. Y nunca más vinieron tropas de Siria a la tierra de Israel.

24 And it came to pass after this, that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

24 Después de esto aconteció que Ben-adad, rey de Siria, reunió todo su ejército, y subió y sitió Samaria.

25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

25 Y hubo gran hambre en Samaria, porque ellos la sitiaron mucho tiempo, tanto que la cabeza de un asno se vendía por ochenta piezas de plata, y la cuarta parte de un cab de estiércol de palomas por cinco piezas de plata.

26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

26 Y al pasar el rey de Israel por el muro, una mujer le dio voces y dijo: ¡Ayúdame, oh rey, señor mío!

27 And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

27 Y él dijo: Si no te ayuda Jehová, ¿de dónde te voy a ayudar yo? ¿Del alfolí o del lagar?

28 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

28 Y le dijo el rey: ¿Qué tienes? Y ella respondió: Esta mujer me dijo: Da acá tu hijo, y comámoslo hoy, y mañana comeremos el mío.

29 So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

29 Cocimos, pues, mi hijo y lo comimos. Al día siguiente yo le dije: Da acá tu hijo, y comámoslo. Pero ella ha escondido a su hijo.

30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

30 Y sucedió que cuando el rey oyó las palabras de aquella mujer, rasgó sus vestidos y pasó así por el muro; y el pueblo vio el cilicio que traía debajo de su ropa, sobre su cuerpo.

31 Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

31 Y él dijo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, si la cabeza de Eliseo hijo de Safat queda sobre él hoy.

32 But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

32 Y estaba Eliseo sentado en su casa, y con él estaban sentados los ancianos; y el rey envió a él un hombre. Pero antes que el mensajero viniese a él, dijo él a los ancianos: ¿No habéis visto cómo este hijo de homicida envía a cortarme la cabeza? Mirad, pues, y cuando venga el mensajero, cerrad la puerta e impedidle la entrada. ¿No se oye tras él el ruido de los pasos de su amo?

33 And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

33 Aún estaba él hablando con ellos cuando, he aquí, el mensajero que descendía a él dijo: Ciertamente este mal viene de Jehová. ¿Por qué he de esperar más en Jehová?
