1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

1 En el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías hijo de Acaz, rey de Judá.

2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

2 Cuando comenzó a reinar tenía veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre era Abi hija de Zacarías.

3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

3 E hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho David, su padre.

4 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

4 Él quitó los lugares altos, y quebró los ídolos, y destruyó las imágenes de Asera e hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque hasta entonces le quemaban incienso los hijos de Israel; y la llamó Nehustán.

5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

5 En Jehová Dios de Israel puso su esperanza; ni antes ni después de él hubo otro como él entre todos los reyes de Judá.

6 For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

6 Porque siguió a Jehová y no se apartó de él, sino que guardó los mandamientos que Jehová ordenó a Moisés.

7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

7 Y Jehová estaba con él, y en todas las cosas que él hacía, prosperaba. Ezequías se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria y no le sirvió.

8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

8 Derrotó también a los filisteos hasta Gaza y sus fronteras, desde las torres de los atalayas hasta la ciudad fortificada.

9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

9 Y sucedió que en el cuarto año del rey Ezequías, que era el año séptimo de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar, rey de los asirios, contra Samaria y la sitió.

10 And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

10 Y la tomaron al cabo de tres años; en el sexto año de Ezequías, el cual era el año noveno de Oseas, rey de Israel, Samaria fue tomada.

11 And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

11 Y el rey de Asiria llevó cautivo a Israel a Asiria y los puso en Halah, y en Habor, junto al río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los medos,

12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

12 porque no habían obedecido la voz de Jehová su Dios, sino que habían quebrantado su convenio; y todas las cosas que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, había mandado, no las habían escuchado ni puesto por obra.

13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

13 Y a los catorce años del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y las tomó.

14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

14 Entonces Ezequías, rey de Judá, envió a decir al rey de Asiria que estaba en Laquis: Yo he hecho mal; retírate de mí y aceptaré todo lo que me impongas. Y el rey de Asiria impuso a Ezequías, rey de Judá, trescientos talentos de plata y treinta talentos de oro.

15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.

15 Dio, por tanto, Ezequías toda la plata que había en la casa de Jehová y en los tesoros de la casa real.

16 At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

16 Entonces Ezequías quitó el oro de las puertas del templo de Jehová y de los marcos de las puertas que el mismo rey Ezequías había cubierto de oro, y lo dio al rey de Asiria.

17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab-shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller's field.

17 Y desde Laquis el rey de Asiria envió al Tartán y al Rabsaris y al Rabsaces con un gran ejército contra el rey Ezequías que estaba en Jerusalén. Y subieron y llegaron a Jerusalén. Y habiendo subido, llegaron y se detuvieron junto al acueducto del estanque de arriba, que está en el camino de la heredad del Batanero.

18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

18 Y llamaron al rey, y salió a ellos Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, que estaba a cargo de la casa, y Sebna, el escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, el cronista.

19 And Rab-shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

19 Y les dijo el Rabsaces: Decid ahora a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta que tú tienes?

20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

20 Dices (por cierto palabras vanas): Consejo tengo y fuerza para la guerra. Pero, ¿en quién confías para que te rebeles contra mí?

21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

21 He aquí, tú confías ahora en esta vara de caña astillada, es decir, en Egipto, en la que si alguno se apoya, le entrará por la mano y se la traspasará. Tal es Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que en él confían.

22 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

22 Y si me decís: Nosotros confiamos en Jehová nuestro Dios, ¿no es este aquel cuyos lugares altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalén?

23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

23 Ahora pues, yo te ruego que hagas un trato con mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes dar jinetes para ellos.

24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

24 ¿Cómo, pues, podrás resistir a un capitán, al menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque confiado estés en Egipto por sus carros y su gente de a caballo?

25 Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

25 ¿Acaso he venido yo ahora a este lugar para destruirlo sin el apoyo de Jehová? Jehová me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra, y destrúyela.

26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

26 Entonces Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, y Sebna y Joa dijeron al Rabsaces: Te rogamos que hables a tus siervos en la lengua de los sirios, porque nosotros la entendemos, y no hables con nosotros en la lengua de los judíos a oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.

27 But Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

27 Y el Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Me ha enviado mi señor solamente para decir estas palabras a ti y a tu señor, y no a los hombres que están sobre el muro, quienes, como vosotros, han de comer su propio estiércol y beber su propia orina?

28 Then Rab-shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

28 Entonces se puso de pie el Rabsaces y clamó a gran voz en la lengua de los judíos, y habló, diciendo: ¡Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria!

29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

29 Así ha dicho el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

30 Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente nos librará Jehová, y esta ciudad no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.

31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

31 No escuchéis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced conmigo la paz y rendíos a mí, y cada uno comerá de su vid y de su higuera, y cada uno beberá las aguas de su pozo,

32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

32 hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas, tierra de olivas, de aceite y de miel. Y viviréis y no moriréis. No escuchéis a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: Jehová nos librará.

33 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

33 ¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha librado su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?

34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?

34 ¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Iva? ¿Pudieron estos librar a Samaria de mi mano?

35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?

35 ¿Quién de entre todos los dioses de las provincias ha librado a su provincia de mi mano, para que libre Jehová de mi mano a Jerusalén?

36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

36 Pero el pueblo calló y no le respondió ni una palabra, porque el rey había mandado: No le respondáis.

37 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.

37 Entonces Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, que estaba a cargo de la casa, y Sebna, el escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, el cronista, fueron a Ezequías, con sus vestidos rasgados, y le dijeron las palabras del Rabsaces.
