1 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

1 En el año veintitrés de Joás hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Joacaz hijo de Jehú sobre Israel en Samaria; y reinó diecisiete años.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

2 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, pues siguió en los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel; y no se apartó de ellos.

3 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

3 Y se encendió el furor de Jehová contra Israel, y los entregó en manos de Hazael, rey de Siria, y en manos de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael, durante todos sus días.

4 And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

4 Mas Joacaz imploró a Jehová, y Jehová lo escuchó, porque vio la opresión de Israel, pues el rey de Siria los oprimía.

5 (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.

5 (Y dio Jehová un salvador a Israel, y salieron del dominio de los sirios; y habitaron los hijos de Israel en sus tiendas, como antes.

6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)

6 Con todo eso, no se apartaron de los pecados de la casa de Jeroboam, el que hizo pecar a Israel; en ellos anduvieron; y también la imagen de Asera permaneció en Samaria).

7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

7 Porque no le había quedado gente a Joacaz, salvo cincuenta hombres de a caballo, y diez carros y diez mil hombres de a pie; pues el rey de Siria los había destruido y los había dejado como polvo para hollar.

8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

8 Los demás hechos de Joacaz, y todo lo que hizo y sus valentías, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

9 Y durmió Joacaz con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en Samaria; y reinó en su lugar su hijo Joás.

10 In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

10 El año treinta y siete de Joás, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Joás hijo de Joacaz sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó dieciséis años.

11 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.

11 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová; no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel, sino que anduvo en ellos.

12 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

12 Los demás hechos de Joás, y todas las cosas que hizo y el poder con que guerreó contra Amasías, rey de Judá, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

13 And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

13 Y durmió Joás con sus padres, y se sentó Jeroboam sobre su trono; y Joás fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel.

14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.

14 Estaba Eliseo enfermo de aquella enfermedad de la cual moriría. Y descendió a él Joás, rey de Israel, y llorando delante de él, dijo: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su gente de a caballo!

15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.

15 Y le dijo Eliseo: Toma un arco y unas saetas. Tomó él entonces un arco y unas saetas.

16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.

16 Y dijo Eliseo al rey de Israel: Pon tu mano sobre el arco. Y puso él su mano sobre el arco. Entonces puso Eliseo sus manos sobre las manos del rey

17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

17 y dijo: Abre la ventana que da al oriente. Y cuando él la abrió, dijo Eliseo: Tira. Y tiró él y dijo Eliseo: Saeta de salvación de Jehová y saeta de salvación contra Siria, porque derrotarás a los sirios en Afec hasta exterminarlos.

18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

18 Y le volvió a decir: Toma las saetas. Y cuando el rey de Israel las tomó, le dijo: Golpea la tierra. Y él la golpeó tres veces y se detuvo.

19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

19 Entonces el hombre de Dios se enojó con él y le dijo: De haber golpeado cinco o seis veces, derrotarías a Siria hasta no quedar ninguno; pero ahora tres veces herirás a Siria.

20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

20 Y murió Eliseo y lo sepultaron. Ya entrado el año, vinieron bandas armadas de moabitas a la tierra.

21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

21 Y aconteció que al sepultar unos a un hombre, he aquí que vieron una banda armada y arrojaron al hombre en el sepulcro de Eliseo; y cuando cayó el muerto y tocó los huesos de Eliseo, revivió y se puso de pie.

22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

22 Hazael, pues, rey de Siria, oprimió a Israel todos los días de Joacaz.

23 And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

23 Pero Jehová tuvo misericordia de ellos y se compadeció de ellos; y se volvió hacia ellos a causa de su convenio con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob; y no quiso destruirlos ni echarlos de delante de su presencia hasta hoy.

24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead.

24 Y murió Hazael, rey de Siria, y reinó en su lugar su hijo Ben-adad.

25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

25 Y volvió Joás hijo de Joacaz y recobró de manos de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael las ciudades que él había tomado de manos de Joacaz, su padre, en la guerra. Tres veces lo derrotó Joás y recobró las ciudades de Israel.
