1 In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

1 En el séptimo año de Jehú comenzó a reinar Joás, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Sibia, de Beerseba.

2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

2 Y Joás hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová todos los días en que le instruyó el sacerdote Joiada.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

3 Sin embargo, los lugares altos no se quitaron, porque el pueblo aún sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.

4 And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,

4 Y Joás dijo a los sacerdotes: Todo el dinero de las cosas sagradas que se suele traer a la casa de Jehová, tanto el dinero del rescate de cada persona, según está estipulado, así como todo el dinero que cada uno de su propia voluntad trae a la casa de Jehová,

5 Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

5 recíbanlo los sacerdotes, cada uno de manos de sus conocidos, y reparen las brechas del templo dondequiera que se halle abertura.

6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

6 Pero aconteció que en el año veintitrés del rey Joás, no habían aún reparado los sacerdotes las brechas del templo.

7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

7 Entonces el rey Joás llamó al sacerdote Joiada y a los otros sacerdotes, y les dijo: ¿Por qué no reparáis las brechas del templo? Ahora, pues, no toméis más el dinero de vuestros conocidos, sino dadlo para reparar los daños del templo.

8 And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.

8 Y los sacerdotes convinieron en no tomar más dinero del pueblo, ni en tener el cargo de reparar las brechas del templo.

9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

9 Pero el sacerdote Joiada tomó un cofre, y le hizo en la tapa un agujero y lo puso junto al altar, a la mano derecha por donde se entra en la casa de Jehová; y los sacerdotes que guardaban la puerta ponían allí todo el dinero que se traía a la casa de Jehová.

10 And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.

10 Y cuando veían que había mucho dinero en el cofre, venían el escriba del rey y el sumo sacerdote y contaban el dinero que se hallaba en la casa de Jehová, y lo guardaban.

11 And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,

11 Y el dinero que habían contado lo entregaban en manos de los que hacían la obra, y de los que tenían a su cargo la casa de Jehová; y ellos lo usaban para pagar a los carpinteros y a los que reparaban la casa de Jehová,

12 And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

12 y a los albañiles y a los canteros, y para comprar la madera y la piedra de cantería para reparar las brechas de la casa de Jehová, y para todo lo que se gastaba en la casa para repararla.

13 Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:

13 Pero de aquel dinero que se traía a la casa de Jehová, no se hacían tazones de plata, ni despabiladeras, ni vasijas, ni trompetas, ni se hacía ningún otro utensilio de oro ni de plata para la casa de Jehová,

14 But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.

14 porque lo daban a los que hacían la obra, y con él reparaban la casa de Jehová.

15 Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.

15 Y no se pedían cuentas a los hombres en cuyas manos el dinero era entregado, para que ellos lo diesen a los que hacían la obra, porque lo hacían ellos honradamente.

16 The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests'.

16 El dinero de la ofrenda por la culpa y el dinero de la ofrenda por los pecados no se traía a la casa de Jehová, porque era de los sacerdotes.

17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

17 Entonces subió Hazael, rey de Siria, y peleó contra Gat y la tomó; y se propuso Hazael subir contra Jerusalén.

18 And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.

18 Y Joás, rey de Judá, tomó todas las ofrendas que habían dedicado Josafat, y Joram y Ocozías, sus padres, reyes de Judá, y las que él había dedicado, y todo el oro que se halló en los tesoros de la casa de Jehová y en la casa del rey, y lo envió todo a Hazael, rey de Siria; y él se retiró de Jerusalén.

19 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 Los demás hechos de Joás y todas las cosas que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

20 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.

20 Y se levantaron sus siervos, y tramaron una conspiración y mataron a Joás en la casa de Milo, en el camino que desciende a Sila;

21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

21 pues Josacar hijo de Simeat y Jozabad hijo de Somer, sus siervos, le hirieron, y murió. Y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de David, y reinó en su lugar su hijo Amasías.
