1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.

1 Josías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén.

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

2 E hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová y anduvo en los caminos de David, su padre, sin apartarse ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.

3 A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de David, su padre; y a los doce años comenzó a limpiar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los lugares altos, y de las imágenes de Asera, y de las imágenes talladas y de las imágenes de fundición.

4 And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.

4 Y derribaron delante de él los altares de los baales, e hizo pedazos los altares de incienso que estaban puestos encima; despedazó también las imágenes de Asera, y las imágenes talladas y las imágenes de fundición, y las redujo a polvo y esparció el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.

5 And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.

5 Quemó además los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares y limpió a Judá y a Jerusalén.

6 And so did he in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their mattocks round about.

6 Lo mismo hizo en las ciudades de Manasés, y Efraín, y Simeón, y hasta Neftalí, y en sus lugares asolados alrededor.

7 And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

7 Y cuando hubo derribado los altares y las imágenes de Asera, y quebrado y reducido a polvo las imágenes talladas, y destruido todos los altares de incienso por toda la tierra de Israel, volvió a Jerusalén.

8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

8 A los dieciocho años de su reinado, después de haber limpiado la tierra y la casa, envió a Safán hijo de Azalía, y a Maasías, gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joa hijo de Joacaz, el cronista, para que reparasen la casa de Jehová su Dios.

9 And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.

9 Y cuando ellos vinieron a Hilcías, el sumo sacerdote, le dieron el dinero que había sido traído a la casa de Jehová, que los levitas que guardaban la puerta habían recogido de mano de Manasés, y de Efraín y de todo el remanente de Israel, y de todo Judá y de Benjamín y de los habitantes de Jerusalén.

10 And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and amend the house:

10 Y lo entregaron en manos de los que hacían la obra, que estaban a cargo de la casa de Jehová, quienes lo daban a los que hacían la obra y trabajaban en la casa de Jehová, para reparar y restaurar el templo.

11 Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

11 Daban asimismo a los carpinteros y a los albañiles para que comprasen piedra de cantería, y madera para las uniones y para las vigas de las casas, las cuales habían destruido los reyes de Judá.

12 And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.

12 Y estos hombres procedían con honradez en la obra; y se encargaban de ellos Jahat y Abdías, levitas de los hijos de Merari, y Zacarías y Mesulam, de los hijos de Coat, para adelantar la obra; y de los levitas, todos los diestros en instrumentos de música.

13 Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

13 También velaban sobre los cargadores y eran los encargados de los que se ocupaban en cualquier clase de obra; y de los levitas había escribas, y oficiales y porteros.

14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.

14 Y al sacar el dinero que había sido traído a la casa de Jehová, el sacerdote Hilcías halló el libro de la ley de Jehová, dada por medio de Moisés.

15 And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

15 Entonces Hilcías respondió al escriba Safán, diciendo: He hallado el libro de la ley en la casa de Jehová. Y dio Hilcías el libro a Safán.

16 And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.

16 Y Safán lo llevó al rey y le contó el asunto, diciendo: Tus siervos han cumplido todo lo que les fue encomendado.

17 And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.

17 Y han reunido el dinero que se halló en la casa de Jehová, y lo han entregado en manos de los encargados y en manos de los que hacen la obra.

18 Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

18 Y el escriba Safán declaró al rey, diciendo: El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro. Y leyó Safán en él ante el rey.

19 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.

19 Y aconteció que cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos

20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king's, saying,

20 y mandó a Hilcías y a Ahicam hijo de Safán, y a Abdón hijo de Micaía, y a Safán, el escriba, y a Asaías, siervo del rey, diciendo:

21 Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.

21 Id y consultad a Jehová por mí, y por el remanente de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha hallado; porque grande es la ira de Jehová que ha caído sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no han guardado la palabra de Jehová, para hacer conforme a todo lo que está escrito en este libro.

22 And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake to her to that effect.

22 Entonces Hilcías y los del rey fueron a Hulda, la profetisa, esposa de Salum hijo de Ticva, hijo de Hasra, guarda de las vestimentas, la que moraba en Jerusalén, en el segundo sector; y le dijeron las palabras antedichas.

23 And she answered them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell ye the man that sent you to me,

23 Y ella les respondió: Jehová, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho así: Decid al hombre que os ha enviado a mí:

24 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:

24 Así dice Jehová: He aquí, voy a traer el mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus moradores, si, todas las maldiciones que están escritas en el libro que han leído ante el rey de Judá,

25 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be quenched.

25 por cuanto me han dejado y han quemado incienso a dioses ajenos, para provocarme a ira con todas las obras de sus manos; por tanto, se derramará mi ira sobre este lugar y no se apagará.

26 And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;

26 Pero al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado a consultar a Jehová, así le diréis: Jehová, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho así: En cuanto a las palabras que has oído,

27 Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.

27 porque tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante de Dios al oír sus palabras sobre este lugar y sobre sus moradores, y te humillaste delante de mí, y rasgaste tus vestidos y lloraste en mi presencia, yo también te he oído, dice Jehová.

28 Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.

28 He aquí que yo te recogeré con tus padres, y serás recogido en tu sepulcro en paz, y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo voy a traer sobre este lugar y sobre los moradores de él. Y ellos refirieron al rey la respuesta.

29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

29 Entonces el rey envió y reunió a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.

30 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

30 Y subió el rey a la casa de Jehová, y con él todos los hombres de Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalén, y los sacerdotes, y los levitas y todo el pueblo, desde el mayor hasta el menor; y leyó a oídos de ellos todas las palabras del libro del convenio que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová.

31 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.

31 Y el rey se puso de pie en su sitio e hizo convenio delante de Jehová de caminar en pos de Jehová y de guardar sus mandamientos, y sus testimonios y sus estatutos, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, para poner por obra las palabras del convenio que estaban escritas en aquel libro.

32 And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

32 E hizo que se comprometieran a ello todos los que se hallaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín; y los moradores de Jerusalén hicieron conforme al convenio de Dios, el Dios de sus padres.

33 And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

33 Y quitó Josías todas las abominaciones de todas las tierras de los hijos de Israel, e hizo que todos los que se hallaban en Israel sirviesen a Jehová su Dios. Y mientras él vivió, no se apartaron de ir en pos de Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.
