1 Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

1 Amasías tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. Y el nombre de su madre era Joadán, de Jerusalén.

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.

2 Hizo él lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, aunque no con un corazón íntegro.

3 Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.

3 Y aconteció que cuando fue confirmado en el reino, mató a los siervos que habían matado al rey, su padre.

4 But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

4 Pero no mató a los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la Ley, en el libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su propio pecado.

5 Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

5 Entonces Amasías reunió a Judá, y conforme a las casas paternas, les puso jefes de millares y jefes de centenas por todo Judá y Benjamín; y contó a los de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados entre ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir a la guerra, que portaban lanza y escudo.

6 He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.

6 Y de Israel tomó a sueldo a cien mil hombres fuertes y valientes, por cien talentos de plata.

7 But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

7 Pero un hombre de Dios vino a él, diciéndole: Oh rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel, porque Jehová no está con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Efraín.

8 But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

8 Pero si tú vas, si eso haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante del enemigo, porque Dios tiene poder o para ayudar o para derribar.

9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.

9 Y Amasías dijo al hombre de Dios: ¿Qué, pues, se hará de los cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el hombre de Dios respondió: Jehová puede darte mucho más que eso.

10 Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.

10 Entonces Amasías apartó el ejército de la gente que había venido a él de Efraín, para que se fuesen a sus casas; y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá y volvieron a sus casas encolerizados.

11 And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

11 Entonces Amasías se armó de valor, sacó a su pueblo, y fue al valle de la Sal y mató a diez mil de los hijos de Seir.

12 And other ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.

12 Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos a otros diez mil que llevaron a la cumbre de un peñasco; de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.

13 But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.

13 Pero los del ejército que Amasías había despedido, para que no fuesen con él a la guerra, atacaron las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bet-horón, y mataron de ellos a tres mil y tomaron un gran botín.

14 Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

14 Y sucedió que después que Amasías regresó de la matanza de los edomitas, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y los puso como dioses para sí, y se postró delante de ellos y les quemó incienso.

15 Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

15 Por eso el furor de Jehová se encendió contra Amasías, y le envió un profeta que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de otro pueblo que no han podido librar a su pueblo de tus manos?

16 And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

16 Y sucedió que mientras el profeta hablaba estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Te han puesto a ti por consejero del rey? ¡Déjate de eso! ¿Por qué quieres que te maten? Y el profeta se detuvo y dijo: Yo sé que Dios ha determinado destruirte, porque has hecho esto y no obedeciste mi consejo.

17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.

17 Y Amasías, rey de Judá, tomó consejo y envió a decir a Joás hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara a cara.

18 And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

18 Entonces Joás, rey de Israel, envió a decir a Amasías, rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano envió a decir al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija a mi hijo por esposa. Y he aquí que una fiera que estaba en el Líbano pasó y holló al cardo.

19 Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

19 Tú dices: He aquí, he derrotado a Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte; quédate ahora en tu casa. ¿Para qué provocas un mal en que puedas caer tú y Judá contigo?

20 But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.

20 Pero Amasías no quiso oír, porque estaba de Dios entregarlos en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

21 So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

21 Subió, pues, Joás, rey de Israel, y se vieron cara a cara él y Amasías, rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, la cual es de Judá.

22 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

22 Y cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno a su tienda.

23 And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

23 Y Joás, rey de Israel, apresó en Bet-semes a Amasías, rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del ángulo, un tramo de cuatrocientos codos.

24 And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

24 Asimismo tomó todo el oro y toda la plata, y todos los utensilios que se hallaban al cuidado de Obed-edom en la casa de Dios y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y también tomó rehenes, y volvió a Samaria.

25 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

25 Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.

26 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

26 Los demás hechos de Amasías, los primeros y los postreros, ¿no están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?

27 Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.

27 Desde el tiempo en que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, conspiraron contra él en Jerusalén; y él huyó a Laquis, pero lo persiguieron hasta Laquis y allá lo mataron;

28 And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

28 y lo trajeron en caballos y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.
