1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

1 Joás tenía siete años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Sibia, de Beerseba.

2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

2 E hizo Joás lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová todos los días del sacerdote Joiada;

3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

3 y Joiada tomó para el rey dos esposas, y este engendró hijos e hijas.

4 And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.

4 Y aconteció que después de esto, Joás decidió reparar la casa de Jehová.

5 And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.

5 Y reunió a los sacerdotes y a los levitas y les dijo: Salid a las ciudades de Judá y juntad dinero de todo Israel, para que cada año sea reparada la casa de vuestro Dios; y vosotros apresuraos en esto. Pero los levitas no se apresuraron.

6 And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

6 Por lo cual el rey llamó a Joiada, el principal sacerdote, y le dijo: ¿Por qué no has procurado que los levitas traigan de Judá y de Jerusalén al tabernáculo del testimonio la contribución que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, impuso sobre la congregación de Israel?

7 For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.

7 Porque los hijos de la perversa Atalía habían destruido la casa de Dios, y además habían usado para los ídolos todas las cosas consagradas de la casa de Jehová.

8 And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.

8 Mandó, pues, el rey que hiciesen un cofre, el cual pusieron fuera a la puerta de la casa de Jehová;

9 And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

9 e hicieron pregonar en Judá y en Jerusalén, que trajesen a Jehová la contribución que Moisés, siervo de Dios, había impuesto a Israel en el desierto.

10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

10 Y todos los jefes y todo el pueblo se regocijaron, y trajeron sus contribuciones y las echaron en el cofre hasta llenarlo.

11 Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

11 Y sucedió que cuando llegaba el tiempo en que los levitas debían llevar el cofre al poder del rey, y cuando veían que había mucho dinero, iban el escriba del rey y el oficial del sumo sacerdote y llevaban el cofre, y lo vaciaban y lo volvían a poner en su lugar; y así lo hacían de día en día y recogían mucho dinero.

12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.

12 Y el rey y Joiada daban el dinero a los que hacían el trabajo del servicio de la casa de Jehová; y tomaban canteros y carpinteros que reparasen la casa de Jehová, y artífices en hierro y en bronce para reparar la casa de Jehová.

13 So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.

13 Hacían, pues, los oficiales la obra, y por sus manos fue la obra restaurada; y restituyeron la casa de Dios a su condición original y la reforzaron.

14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

14 Y cuando hubieron acabado, trajeron lo que quedaba del dinero al rey y a Joiada, e hicieron de él utensilios para la casa de Jehová, utensilios para el servicio y para ofrendar, y cucharas y vasos de oro y de plata. Y sacrificaban holocaustos continuamente en la casa de Jehová todos los días de Joiada.

15 But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

15 Mas Joiada envejeció y murió lleno de días; y tenía ciento treinta años cuando murió.

16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.

16 Y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David con los reyes, por cuanto había hecho el bien en Israel, y para con Dios y su casa.

17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

17 Muerto Joiada, vinieron los príncipes de Judá y se postraron ante el rey, y el rey los escuchó.

18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

18 Y abandonaron la casa de Jehová, el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron a las imágenes de Asera y a los ídolos; y la ira vino sobre Judá y Jerusalén por este su pecado.

19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

19 Y les envió profetas para que los hiciesen volver a Jehová, los que testificaron en contra de ellos, pero ellos no los escucharon.

20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.

20 Y el espíritu de Dios vino sobre Zacarías hijo de Joiada, el sacerdote, quien se puso de pie ante el pueblo, en un lugar elevado, y les dijo: Así ha dicho Dios: ¿Por qué quebrantáis los mandamientos de Jehová, por lo cual no prosperáis? Porque, por haber abandonado a Jehová, él también os abandonará.

21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

21 Pero ellos conspiraron contra él y lo apedrearon por mandato del rey, en el atrio de la casa de Jehová.

22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.

22 No se acordó, pues, el rey Joás de la misericordia que Joiada, el padre de Zacarías, había tenido con él, sino que mató a su hijo, el cual dijo al morir: Jehová lo vea y lo demande.

23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.

23 Y aconteció que a la vuelta del año, subió contra él el ejército de Siria; y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, y destruyeron de entre el pueblo a todos los principales de él, y enviaron todo el botín al rey de Damasco.

24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

24 Porque aunque el ejército de Siria había venido con poca gente, Jehová entregó en sus manos un ejército muy numeroso, por cuanto habían abandonado a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres. Y contra Joás ejecutaron juicios.

25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

25 Y retirándose de él los sirios, lo dejaron con muchas enfermedades; y conspiraron contra él sus siervos a causa de la sangre de los hijos del sacerdote Joiada, y lo hirieron en su cama, y murió; y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no lo sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.

26 And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.

26 Los que conspiraron contra él fueron Zabad hijo de Simeat, la amonita, y Jozabad, hijo de Simrit, la moabita.

27 Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

27 Y acerca de sus hijos, y de las muchas profecías sobre él y de la restauración de la casa de Jehová, he aquí todo está escrito en la historia del libro de los reyes. Y reinó en su lugar su hijo Amasías.
