1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

1 Pasadas estas cosas, aconteció que los hijos de Moab y de Amón, y con ellos otros de los amonitas, vinieron contra Josafat a la guerra.

2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.

2 Y acudieron algunos y dieron aviso a Josafat, diciendo: Contra ti viene una gran multitud del otro lado del mar, de Siria; y he aquí, ellos están en Hazezón-tamar, que es En-gadi.

3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

3 Entonces él tuvo temor; y Josafat se propuso consultar a Jehová, e hizo pregonar ayuno a todo Judá.

4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

4 Y se reunieron los de Judá para pedir socorro a Jehová; y también de todas las ciudades de Judá vinieron a pedir ayuda a Jehová.

5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

5 Entonces Josafat se puso de pie en medio de la congregación de Judá y de Jerusalén, en la casa de Jehová, delante del atrio nuevo,

6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

6 y dijo: Jehová, Dios de nuestros padres, ¿no eres tú Dios en los cielos, y gobiernas tú sobre todos los reinos de las naciones? ¿No hay en tu mano tal fuerza y poder que no hay quien te resista?

7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

7 Dios nuestro, ¿no expulsaste tú a los habitantes de esta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y la diste a la descendencia de tu amigo Abraham para siempre?

8 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

8 Y ellos han habitado en ella y te han edificado en ella santuario a tu nombre, diciendo:

9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

9 Si el mal viene sobre nosotros, o espada, o juicio, o pestilencia o hambre, nos presentaremos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti (porque tu nombre está en esta casa); y en nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos a ti, y tú nos oirás y salvarás.

10 And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

10 Ahora pues, he aquí los hijos de Amón y de Moab, y los del monte de Seir, por cuya tierra no permitiste que pasase Israel cuando venían de la tierra de Egipto, de modo que se apartaron de ellos, y no los destruyeron;

11 Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

11 he aquí, ellos nos dan el pago, viniendo a echarnos de tu heredad, que tú nos diste en posesión.

12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

12 ¡Oh Dios nuestro!, ¿no los juzgarás tú? Porque nosotros no tenemos fuerza para enfrentar a esta multitud tan grande que viene contra nosotros; no sabemos lo que hemos de hacer, mas a ti volvemos nuestros ojos.

13 And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

13 Y todo Judá estaba de pie delante de Jehová, con sus niños, sus esposas y sus hijos.

14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

14 Y estaba allí Jahaziel hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Benaía, hijo de Jeiel, hijo de Matanías, levita de los hijos de Asaf, sobre quien vino el espíritu de Jehová en medio de la congregación;

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

15 y dijo: Oíd, todo Judá, y vosotros habitantes de Jerusalén, y tú, rey Josafat. Jehová os dice así: No temáis ni os amedrentéis delante de esta multitud tan grande porque no es vuestra la batalla, sino de Dios.

16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

16 Descended mañana contra ellos; he aquí que ellos subirán por la cuesta de Sis, y los hallaréis en el extremo del valle, frente al desierto de Jeruel.

17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

17 No tendréis vosotros que pelear en esta ocasión; apostaos, y quedaos quietos y ved la salvación de Jehová con vosotros. Oh Judá y Jerusalén, no temáis ni desmayéis; salid mañana contra ellos, porque Jehová estará con vosotros.

18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

18 Entonces Josafat se inclinó rostro a tierra, y asimismo todo Judá y los moradores de Jerusalén se postraron delante de Jehová y adoraron a Jehová.

19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

19 Y se levantaron los levitas de los hijos de Coat y de los hijos de Coré para alabar a Jehová, el Dios de Israel, con fuerte y alta voz.

20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

20 Y se levantaron temprano por la mañana y salieron al desierto de Tecoa. Y mientras ellos salían, Josafat se puso de pie y dijo: Oídme, Judá y moradores de Jerusalén. Creed en Jehová vuestro Dios y estaréis seguros; creed a sus profetas y seréis prosperados.

21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

21 Y después de haber consultado con el pueblo, designó a algunos para que cantasen a Jehová y alabasen en la hermosura de la santidad, mientras salía la gente armada, y que dijesen: Glorificad a Jehová, porque su misericordia es para siempre.

22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

22 Y cuando comenzaron con cánticos y con alabanzas, Jehová puso emboscadas contra los hijos de Amón, de Moab y del monte de Seir que venían contra Judá, y fueron derrotados.

23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

23 Pues los hijos de Amón y de Moab se levantaron contra los del monte de Seir, para matarlos y destruirlos; y cuando hubieron acabado con los habitantes de Seir, cada cual ayudó a la destrucción de su compañero.

24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

24 Y cuando vino Judá a la atalaya del desierto, miraron hacia la multitud, y he aquí, solo había cadáveres tendidos en la tierra, pues ninguno había escapado.

25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

25 Y cuando llegaron Josafat y su pueblo a despojarlos, hallaron entre los cadáveres muchas riquezas, vestidos y objetos preciosos, los cuales tomaron para sí, tantos que no los podían llevar. Y tres días duró el despojo, porque era mucho.

26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

26 Y al cuarto día se reunieron en el valle de Beraca, porque allí bendijeron a Jehová; por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel paraje el valle de Beraca, hasta hoy.

27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

27 Y todos los hombres de Judá y los de Jerusalén, con Josafat a la cabeza de ellos, regresaron a Jerusalén gozosos, porque Jehová les había hecho regocijarse sobre sus enemigos.

28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

28 Y vinieron a Jerusalén con salterios, y arpas y trompetas a la casa de Jehová.

29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

29 Y el pavor de Dios cayó sobre todos los reinos de aquellas tierras cuando oyeron que Jehová había peleado contra los enemigos de Israel.

30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

30 Y el reino de Josafat tuvo paz, porque su Dios le dio reposo por todas partes.

31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

31 Así reinó Josafat sobre Judá; tenía treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Azuba hija de Silhi.

32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

32 Y anduvo en el camino de Asa, su padre, sin apartarse de él, haciendo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová.

33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

33 Sin embargo, los lugares altos no fueron quitados, pues el pueblo aún no había dispuesto su corazón para con el Dios de sus padres.

34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

34 Los demás hechos de Josafat, los primeros y los postreros, he aquí, están escritos en las palabras de Jehú hijo de Hanani, de quien se hace mención en el libro de los reyes de Israel.

35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

35 Pasadas estas cosas, Josafat, rey de Judá, se alió con Ocozías, rey de Israel, el cual era dado a la impiedad,

36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.

36 y se alió con él para construir naves que fuesen a Tarsis, y construyeron las naves en Ezión-geber.

37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

37 Entonces Eliezer hijo de Dodava, de Maresa, profetizó contra Josafat, diciendo: Por cuanto te has aliado con Ocozías, Jehová ha destruido tus obras. Y las naves fueron destruidas, y no pudieron ir a Tarsis.
