1 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

1 Y durmió Abías con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar su hijo Asa, en cuyos días tuvo sosiego el país durante diez años.

2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

2 E hizo Asa lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová su Dios.

3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

3 Porque quitó los altares de culto extraño y los lugares altos, y quebró las estatuas y derribó las imágenes de Asera;

4 And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

4 y mandó a Judá que buscara a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres, y pusiera por obra la ley y sus mandamientos.

5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

5 Quitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y las imágenes, y el reino estuvo en paz bajo él.

6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

6 Y edificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá, por cuanto había paz en la tierra, y no había guerra contra él en aquellos tiempos, porque Jehová le había dado reposo.

7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

7 Dijo, por tanto, a Judá: Edifiquemos estas ciudades y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra, porque hemos buscado a Jehová nuestro Dios; le hemos buscado, y él nos ha dado reposo por todas partes. Edificaron, pues, y prosperaron.

8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

8 Tuvo también Asa un ejército que traía escudos y lanzas: de Judá trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos ochenta mil que traían escudos y tensaban arcos, todos hombres fuertes y valientes.

9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

9 Y salió contra ellos Zera, el etíope, con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros; y vino hasta Maresa.

10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

10 Entonces salió Asa contra él, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresa.

11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

11 Y clamó Asa a Jehová su Dios y dijo: ¡Oh Jehová, no hay otro como tú en dar ayuda al poderoso o al que no tiene fuerzas! Ayúdanos, oh Jehová, Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre venimos contra esta multitud. ¡Oh Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios; no prevalezca contra ti el hombre!

12 So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

12 Y Jehová derrotó a los etíopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá; y huyeron los etíopes.

13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

13 Y Asa y el pueblo que con él estaba los persiguieron hasta Gerar; y cayeron los etíopes hasta no quedar ninguno con vida, porque fueron destruidos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron un botín muy grande.

14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

14 Atacaron también todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror de Jehová cayó sobre ellas; y saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había en ellas gran botín.

15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

15 Asimismo atacaron las tiendas de los que tenían ganado, y se llevaron muchas ovejas y camellos, y volvieron a Jerusalén.
