1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

1 Y cuando llegó Roboam a Jerusalén, reunió de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín a ciento ochenta mil hombres de guerra escogidos, para pelear contra Israel y devolver el reino a Roboam.

2 But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

2 Pero vino la palabra de Jehová a Semaías, hombre de Dios, diciendo:

3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

3 Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, diciéndoles:

4 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

4 Así dice Jehová: No subáis a pelear contra vuestros hermanos; vuelva cada uno a su casa, porque yo he hecho esto. Y ellos escucharon la palabra de Jehová y desistieron de ir contra Jeroboam.

5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

5 Y habitó Roboam en Jerusalén y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

6 He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

6 Y edificó Belén, y Etam, y Tecoa,

7 And Beth-zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

7 y Bet-sur, y Soco, y Adulam,

8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

8 y Gat, y Maresa, y Zif,

9 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

9 y Adoraim, y Laquis, y Azeca,

10 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

10 y Zora, y Ajalón y Hebrón, ciudades fortificadas en Judá y en Benjamín.

11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

11 Fortificó también las fortalezas y puso en ellas capitanes, y provisiones, y aceite y vino;

12 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

12 y en todas las ciudades puso escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera; y Judá y Benjamín le estaban sujetos.

13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

13 Y los sacerdotes y los levitas que estaban en todo Israel se pasaron a él desde todos sus territorios.

14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the LORD:

14 Porque los levitas dejaron sus campos y sus posesiones, y se fueron a Judá y a Jerusalén, porque Jeroboam y sus hijos los habían excluido de servir como sacerdotes a Jehová.

15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

15 Y él designó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, y para los demonios y para los becerros que él había hecho.

16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

16 Tras aquellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel los que habían puesto su corazón en buscar a Jehová Dios de Israel; y vinieron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

17 Así fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón durante tres años, porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

18 And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

18 Y tomó Roboam por esposa a Mahalat hija de Jerimot hijo de David y de Abihail hija de Eliab hijo de Isaí,

19 Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

19 la que le dio a luz hijos: Jeús, y Semarías y Zaham.

20 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

20 Después de ella tomó a Maaca hija de Absalón, la que le dio a luz a Abías, y a Atai, y a Ziza y a Selomit.

21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

21 Y Roboam amó a Maaca hija de Absalón, sobre todas sus esposas y concubinas, pues tomó dieciocho esposas y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

22 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

22 Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca como cabeza y príncipe entre sus hermanos, porque quería hacerle rey.

23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.

23 Y obró sagazmente, y esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, y les dio provisiones en abundancia y buscó muchas esposas.
